Looks like we’re spending some time on the Japanese tip today, getting you into Nicfit and their latest single. The band operate with this sound that feels like you’ve taken the best bits of Fugazi and like-minded post-hardcore outfits, then mixed it up with modern twinges of psychedelia and pop music. At times the track can feel really heavy, particularly as it smashes to a close, though it can also feel fun and off-kilter immediately following. The track keeps you guessing, which makes for the best listening longevity. They’ll be releasing their Fuse LP in January via Upset the Rhythm.

Primo Announce Sogni LP with Best and Fairest

Put everything down and do yourself a favor; you’ve got to press play on this Primo pop tune. Guitars jump out of your speaker as the rhythm section gurgles just beneath the mix, allowing the vocals to coolly charm you with this measured indifference. Suddenly, the rhythm picks up the pace and you’re presented with the repeated titled as the chorus; all this makes way for a post-punk interlude that sets up the next verse. While the song seems frantic and destructive, the vocals serve as this gravitational pull, drawing on just the slightest pop sensibility to suck you into the song. The band will release Sogni on April 17th via Upset the Rhythm and Antifade.

Kaputt Share Carnage Hall

Glaswegian act Kaputt seem to have answered a call of sorts put forth to them by many a no-wave act, most recently with Bodega coming to mind. For starters, the band’s spinning their political sensibilities in this tightly manufactured no-punk. The title-track from their forthcoming release is filled with these saxophone skronks and feverish bounce that’s sure to get an audience up and about; this all leads to a riotous tension that seems to put the band and listener on edge, shooting off-kilter chords to a calamitous close. Just imagine a less-formulaic Parquet Courts and you’re in the ballpark here. Carnage Hall drops on September 27th via Upset the Rhythm.

Try Another Terry Tune Wont You

It looks like the folks over at Upset the Rhythm can’t wait to have you hear the new LP from Terry, as they’re offering up the third single from the group’s I’m Terry. The first two and a half minutes of the band’s latest should definitely have you captivated; it walks a fine line between happy bounding and plodding bounce, steady from start to finish. They offer up some sonic respite, but at this point, its fleeting as the group jump back into their harmony-induced meat of the track. You’ll find the latter half of the tune offering musicianship and sonic playfulness…just the band showing their musical chops. The new LP drops on August 31st.

Terry Release New Single and Video

Hats off to RSTB for sharing this new Terry gem off the band’s forthcoming I’m Terry album. In contrast to the spritely bounce of their first single, “The Whip,” their new single offers a calming dosage of pop. Oddly, the rhythm section holds a similar style, but the pace and the presentation of the vocals give the song a softer underbelly. The closing moments do bring in some brash discord, illustrating that the band aren’t bound to stylistic chains of any one genre. They’ll be releasing the new record via Upset the Rhythm on August 31st.
