Good Morning Announce Basketball Breakups

I’m pretty anxiously awaiting the US arrival of Good Morning; I’ve been jamming to the band for several years, and this will the first time to step foot on our soil (as a band anyways). It looks like they’ll be doing so with a new record, their second this year, in tow, as today they announce Basketball Breakups with a brand new single. This song and its accompanying video are equally charming. The guitars have this tornado of light jangle working around the casual vocal delivery; the video is entirely filmed inside an IKEA, though I’m a bit bummed they didn’t seem to sample the meatballs. Some bands get prolific and then they get boring, but Good Morning seems to be taking it all in stride, and our ears are better for it. Their US tour runs from October thru November.

Mellow Electronic Jam The Deer Tracks

It’s Monday, and while my body recovers from Chaos in Tejas, let’s throw something a little bit more chilled out in your direction.  This Swedish group is currently in the middle of releasing a trilogy of albums titled The Archer Trilogy–Part 3 should be out later on this year.  One of the reason’s I like the group so much is that I can see similarities to other electronic duo’s like the Knife, but this group has a sound completely all their own; it’s always good when you can build on influences and take your own direction.  The Deer Tracks is set to come to the US (though not Austin) in June, so keep a look out for them in your town.

New Tune from Cloud Control

We’ve been huge supporters of Australia’s Cloud Control, so much so that we had the group play our SXSW Party this year.  Lucky for us, the band are gearing up for a brief trip to the States this summer while they focus their work on their upcoming debut, rumored to be out later this year.  It’s tracks like this new one, with it’s amped up folk tendencies that really got us hooked on the group, giving them a place in the purgatory of indie realms, dwelling somewhere between pop gems and folk revisionists.  You give us stomping percussion, clear guitars and some juxtaposed male/female vocals, and we’ll gladly swoon over anything you toss our way. Thanks again Cloud Control.
