Cumgirl8 Share Bugs Video

I’ll admit, my interest has been piqued by Cumgirl8, but it wasn’t until the band dropped “Bugs” today that I officially was way on board. While the band’s output has swirled around the dance pop world, this one takes the dance, but spins that in a very post-punk passion; there are moments when I can hear remnants of Life Without Buildings, or maybe even some of Chk Chk Chk at their most exciting. This is the sort of rock blending with pop that I want to hear, energetic and yet frantic and earnest all at once; this could be a real force live too, especially if you give the latter half’s breakdown moment so proper volume. RIP Cumgirl8 will be out on October 22nd via DERO Arcade.

Buffet Lunch Announce New 7″ on Upset the Rhythm

Scottish outfit Buffet Lunch already released a banger of an album this past May with the Power of Rocks, but they’re back a few months later with a new 7″ for Upset the Rhythm. Today we’ve got the B-side to that 7″, and while there’s the obvious off-kilter jittering from the band’s work, the voice of the song comes from collaborator Jayne Dent of Me Lost Me. Her voice seems to operate as some sort musical ringmaster amidst the band’s clever musical circus; it’s such a striking performance against the dreary backdrop that I rushed over to listen to more of Dent’s work. It’s an interesting little nugget from a young band that we hope to hear more from in 2022. The 7″ drops on November 5th, order it HERE.

Natalie Jane Hill Shares Plants and Flowers That Do Not Grow Here Video

The last month or so we’ve been really high upon Natalie Jane Hill‘s new work from her forthcoming Solely LP; it’s one of the more striking LPs to come out of Austin this year, which is saying a lot. On this one, somehow this seems more personal, almost like a secret she’s sharing with listeners. Her finger-strumming style creates this delicate feel, letting the power of her voice boom, giving her this sound that feels matured beyond many like-minded peers. Light strings provide some small subtleties that buoy the track, adding detail to the song’s empty crevices. Dear Life Records will release Solely on October 29th.

SUEP Drop Domesticated Dream Video

SUEP is a band that should be on your radar, immediately. The band is comprised of members of Porridge Radio, Joanna Gruesome and PC World, all heavy hitters in their own right. For starters, this video is just pure joy; it feels like we can finally stop for a moment and not take our lives so serious; it’s freeing in that sense. Musically, the band have crafted this sort of amalgam of pop sounds, often leaning towards the “everything and the kitchen sink” method; it reminds me of a more modern, almost punk influenced version of Architecture in Helsinki…if anyone remembers that band. You’ll find it kind of funky, you’ll find yourself gently swinging your hips and grinning, which is all you need to keep on top of SUEP. Secret Shame Share Video for Pure

Last summer, Secret Shame dropped this incredible 7″ (I think mine’s still in the mail!), but times as they are, the band have just uploaded a brand new video to accompany the incredible B-side, “Pure.” Personally, this was one of my favorite tunes of last year, drifting through the world in this casually darkened cool. In their video, you get performance video, seen through the eye of a band willing to balance their personality with visual elements that match the song’s thematic vibes. There are still a few copies of the 7″ floating about, and we’ve been promised there’s new music on the horizon!

Dean Wareham Shares As Much As It Was Worth

I love the nakedness with which Dean Wareham is approaching his new record; he seems to be stripping back the magician’s curtains, and in doing so, he’s revealing this incredibly intimate world that’s been captivating me, single after single. This latest one has this emotional pull that I can’t help but to compare to some of Daniel Johnston’s best performances; it has the faintest imperfection, but softened by melody, completely transfixes the listener every step of the way. Every musical note just seems to delicately step around each syllable, careful not to stamp out any nuance that operates as an emotional black hole, sucking everything into the core of the song. I Have Nothing to Say to the Mayor of LA is out on October 15th via Double Feature Records.

Dinner Shares Connection (ft. Molly Burch)

A little bit of Denmark and a little bit of Austin come together on the latest track from Dinner, the project of Anders Rhedin; he’s joined by Texan Molly Burch, who provides these dreamy notes to the new single. This track has a more ethereal quality to it, though perhaps I’m being too influenced by the fog machine visuals drifting across my screen as I listen on repeat. There’s something milling about in Anders performances on this record that’s really moving; he seems to have locked into something that combines his deep tones with a very casual delivery, leaving things feeling more organic, embracing the natural state of his songs. Dream Work is yet another album dropping on October 22nd, courtesy of Captured Tracks.

Tonstartsbandht Share Pass Away

I’m not sure what it is about Tonstartsbandht that attracts me, and perhaps that’s why I’m drawn to the work of the White brothers. At times, they feel like they’re combining these slightly psychedelic practices, reminiscent of what you might find on the inside a Clientele record. But, with that, they also seem to maybe be out there hanging their melodies on the winds of the past, something that sounds incredibly familiar yet totally out of this world. Ultimately, their musicianship shines through, sort of letting the band blend various styles, as you’ll hear when they offer up a tight little breakdown jam in the song’s middle on here. Makes perfect sense that they’ll drop their new LP, Petunia, via Mexican Summer on October 22nd.

Mother Sun Share Marbles Video

Feel like we should slink our way into the weekend, gently tapping our toes as we dream of what’s in store, and what better way than this new single from Mother Sun. The Canadian outfit seem quite unassuming in their presentation of this song; the music almost feels like a carefully mellowed brand of indie rock. Drums tap things out from start to finish, with the vocals soothing like aloe on a fresh sunburn, leaving your skin with this nice chilled touch. Plus, the horn section for arrangement accompaniment is stellar, and placed so well that you’re going to struggle to find anything wrong with this jaunty jam. This single’s one of a handful out now from Divine Bovine.

Power Supply Share Let’s Do This and Let’s Do That

While everyone’s clamoring for that glorious Mellencamp and Springsteen collaboration, why don’t you turn your ears towards something just a little bit hipper, just a little bit more stylish…the new tune from Power Supply. Leon Stackpole has a very matter of fact delivery on this new tune, like a classic bard turning stories into song. The song itself has a little bit of an almost country twang, almost a little boogie to it; this is maybe what Bob should have sounded like when he first plugged in that electric guitar. There are some special moments I’ve been pulling for, like the line starting with “watching, watching the water flow by” just before the 2 minute mark…its a nice little calmed melody that’s soothed my ears for sure. The band drop In the Time of the Sabre-Toothed Tiger on October 22nd via Goner Records.
