Pea Sea Share Silloth Green Video

Felt like opening up today with this new Pea Sea track is the perfect way to get you feeling that weekend boogie, albeit from a UK indie outfit. I think the backbone of bouncing piano keys gives the tune a solid energy, keeping the track light while the guitars are able to work a solid growl into the mixture. Christopher Rollen has a solid vocal delivery too, but my favorite piece of his performance is when he lets it kind of rise and fall into the chorus, like when he howls “silloth green” for the first time; it’s a moment in time that makes the track worthy of returning to again and again. The new album, A Pyke of Patina Slate, is out next Friday via Sea Records.

Ivy Share Fragile People Video

After being away for over a decade, Ivy triumphantly announced their return last month. Today, there’s another single to share with you, and it illustrates the careful steps they took in the crafting of this assumed masterpiece; you can hear how they take a step by step approach, first a wash of keys, then percussion, then vocals…the bass opens it up with little guitar stabs jumping into further build on the textural touches. Their melodic touches throughout the tune ingrain the song in your subconscious, the way the best pop music does. It’s difficult to imagine what they had to go through to complete this record after the passing of Adam, but if this is the last official Ivy release, its a reminder of the group’s gifts since their formation in the early 90s. Traces of You is out September 5th via Bar/None Records.

Murky Pop from Steven Anthony

As you seek to get out of bed in the morning, maybe the corners of your eyes are a little blurry, and like that, this murky pop tune from Steven Anthony seems fitting for your morning stretch routine. There’s a percussive element marching along through the tracks entirety, with little nuance bird chirps echoing in the distance, both adding in the necessary support for the vocal performance. Effects or not, it’s sort of a fuzzed out pop rendition, albeit one that seems filled with promise. If you listen carefully, you can hear little corners of the track reaching for the sun, only to get pulled back by the soft turn of the guitar notes. Sit back and appreciate the craft of this tune.

Weakened Friends Rip Through New Single

Hopefully you have already heard the news that there is a brand new Weakened Friends LP on the way, but in case you haven’t, well, here we are. I’ve been writing about the band since around 2017, just before they dropped Common Blah; I even managed to book them at an impromptu SXSW show…so if I’m being honest, they’re one of my favorite acts of the current pop rock circle. Sonia and Annie play with abandon, offering listeners this forceful sincerity that you can’t escape; I think this song captures that energy perfectly as they smash into the chorus with such melodic ferocity that I’m already anticipating cranking this up for some air drumming at a stoplight near you. Feels Like Hell will be out this October through Don Giovanni.

Shame Share Quiet Life Video

For all the post-punk resurgence that’s gone on, I stand by that I think Shame do it best. Their live shows were dripping with sweat and tension, but they’ve also adhered to a style that’s certainly an amalgam of indie rock sounds, making their records far more interesting. Here, it almost sounds like a kind of garage rock shimmy to kick off, sort of jittery and frantic, but run through an acoustic punch. I think that contrast between the kind of galloping guitar and the growl in the vocals is the perfect set up, but also one that is supremely rewarding. I’m all for being aggressive, but the way they balance the soft and heavy fits perfectly into my old man ears. Their new album Cutthroat drops on my kid’s birthday, September 5th, so double the reason to celebrate; it’s out via Dead Oceans, followed by a big North American tour in early 2026.

Galore Share Bastard Video

There is something so powerful about the jangling of a guitar that just makes the world open and say awesome, like on this new Galore track. You can’t deny that the minute they started chugging away at those jagged riffs that your spirit instantly picked up, much like the joy the band takes in smashing things throughout the accompanying video. The vocals do a lot to carry the song as well, switching back and forth between the wistful dreaminess of indiepop and an emphatic punch up when the whole gang joins in on the fun. Everything about this track just feels like this is the world we should be living for, so grab Dirt from Speakeasy Studios SF on July 25th.

Sunshine Sound Asylum Drop Milady

Soul music is burned deep in the hearts of American music, and as of late, there’s been a huge resurgence, and I know RayRay and I are big fans there. Sunshine Sound Asylum caught my attention as they hold tight to the swinging melodic formation that makes the sound so infectious. This single, however, also holds tight to a bit of a heavier feel, almost swampy, like the song’s perspiring as it drives the groove right into your heart. Just thought it was a fun summertime ditty that’ll make you sweat and swing with whoever you find near ya.

New Music from Das Kope

Das Kope has has been on the ATH radar for some time now, and with the announcement of his record, we wanted to be sure this new little banger was on your radar this week. The artist is really toying with our expectation, as his previous work has really been hyper-melodic and infectious. Don’t get us wrong, this tune does have a nice little bit of a hook, but it’s sort of disguised in this murky haze of sun. In the first minute, you’re subdued by this trickling bit of production, with a twisting guitar note that just seems suspended in the air. When it drops in, the pop connection is made, illustrating how far into the dramatic pop form Das Kope has gone; expect a new album to hit later this Summer.

Stella and the Very Messed Share Big Familiar

The news of brand new Stella and the Very Messed has been sitting in my inbox for a few weeks, and I’m so excited about this record I couldn’t wait to share the news with you. Stella Maxwell, formerly of Cruiserweight, has been a powerhouse in the Texas music scene for several decades, and despite my love for all her previous works, this new single is just a straight hit. A light strum opens before the drums crash in with a wash of heavy guitar riffs, hitting you right in the face as Maxwell’s voice belts out notes with an assuredness of an indie rock veteran. The way the band pull back to kind of offer a little moment of rest, then blast back just builds this huge wall of power that washes over you again and again. You’ll be able to get yourself a copy of their new record, Big Familiar, this Fall via Double Helix Records.

Moviola Share Slage Wave Video

There is something to be said about a band that’s 30 years down the road and still banging out masterful hits, like Ohio’s Moviola. They’re dropping their 11th album, Earthbound, at the end of this summer, and our latest listen has this casual bit of warm indie rock coming through your speakers. In a sense, it has the same musical sentiment that you’d find in an old Lucksmiths LP, offering these well-thought out melodies in simplistic forms that keep you returning to find solace in the music you love. I’ll admit, there’s nothing blowing your hair back in that modern sense, but rather you’re treated to great songwriting and arrangements that should put the new LP on your radar. Earthbound hits on August 29th via Dromedary Records.
