Have a New Nap Eyes Video

Just about a week or so away from the release of the new Nap Eyes album, and they drop another great tune/video. Listening through this track, the structural elements are quite similar to the earlier singles we’ve heard, but I’m stuck on Nigel Chapman’s vocal performance; he stretches in charming fashion to reach high notes, then swings em’ back with a deeper crone. There’s even a nice little guitar jam near the end, but for some reason even that can’t distract me from Nigel’s voice; I keep wanting to call him the male Hope Sandoval…there, I said it. Whatever, I’m Bad Now is out March 9th on Paradise of Bachelors, and it’ll be great.

New Tune from Bill Baird

Nothing makes me happier than the fact that Bill Baird consistently writes beautiful songs, and his latest single is just another in a long line of wondrous tunes. This time, Bill his joined by his friend (and ours) Jana Horn for a duet performance. It’s an airy affair, with the guitar notes almost coming across understated, sliding subconsciously into your mind. Jana’s voice comes in first, and it fits in perfectly with they hazy imagery of the video; she has this way of singing just above a whisper that’s absolutely intoxicating. Bill joins her for the chorus before taking on a short verse of his own…then they return together as the sun finally rises. This song will appear on Bill’s new LP, Gone, which is slated for release Friday, March 2nd.

Here Comes That New Parquet Courts Album

I think I needed a break from Parquet Courts after their first couple of albums; they were everywhere, putting on killer shows and releasing pretty solid tracks. So I took a break, but this great new single definitely has me ready to devote myself to being a Parquet Courts fan. As ever evolving, they still have their distinct sound, though it’s unfolding in different ways, perhaps hard-hitting at moments…this tune in particular seems to have definitive sections…so, diverse, brash and weighed down by hooks…yeah, I’m in. Wide Awake! will be released on May 18th via Rough Trade.

Circling Back on In Tall Buildings

RayRay already wrote about the forthcoming In Tall Buildings album, and it’s my turn to throw my hat into the ring after the band recently released this new video for “Curtain.” Steady electronic pulses serve as the song’s central backbone, while you’ve got to pay careful attention to Erik Hall’s voice to hear the switches from verse to chorus; these are subtle changes that beg a careful ear, as you’re likely easily entranced by the soft quality Hall presents. Near the track’s end, a discordant noise indicates a raise in volume and power, leaving you with an emphatic emotional punch before fading to black. Akinetic will drop on March 2nd via Western Vinyl.

Watch the New Video from There’s Talk

I know that the goal of most videos is to match some aspect of the track they accompany, but rarely is this achieved with as great a success as the new tune from There’s Talk. Minimal electronica opens up the song, matched by a slow drive down a neon-backlit road; Olivia Lee’s vocals move in and out of every turn, perfectly synchronized to the unfolding visual image. Once you’ve found yourself completely immersed, the track stops abruptly and changes directions; offering a heavier beat driven vibe, pulsing as the video seems to illustrate the affects of light on moving water. This is a real treat from start to finish, with the group’s Bathed Water Moon EP just around the corner with a February 23rd release date.

Slept On Lotte Kestner

This last week Lotte Kestner dropped the video for “Go to Sleep Now,” which immediately made me go back and listen to her album from the latter half of 2017, Off White. This track’s pretty mesmerizing; the attention to detail in the song’s craft really hone in on the connection between listener and musician. Anna-Lynne Williams’ voice has this beautiful fragility to it, almost as if it’s shattering as syllables fade back into the mix. Admittedly, I missed this LP, so I wanted to rectify that by sharing this new video; her album is available now via Saint Marie Records.

Watch a New Suuns Video

I’ve enjoyed the new Suuns material from their album Felt, which is really just one tune, but this brand new one is really something special. The song is a gradual stroll, slowly moving in step with the visual elements here; the vocals almost feel like clouds rolling over the musical element. You’ll easily find yourself captivated by the digital images that step in line with a wonky synth/keyboard element; it leaves you imbalanced in a certain way, which I think sinks you further into the track’s emotional vibe. Felt will be released on March 2nd via Secretly Canadian. They’ll also be here in Austin for Levitation.

Just Jam Snoffeltoffs

There are bits of pieces of this new single from Snoffeltoffs where I’m completely baffled; they juxtapose various genres and styles right next to each other, and all in such quick succession that I just keep going back to press play. Opening with a deep chord being plucked and spoken vocals; seems like a striking solemnity. Suddenly, guitars shuffle beneath your feet and the band’s kicking up their feet and rocking out. The core of this song’s stuck in my head, and I think you’ll be the only one that can get it out. Look for the group’s second LP to drop later this year.

Here’s That New Courtney Barnett

Courtney Barnett has been teasing us all week long with a new album, and today you finally get a chance to enjoy a complete new single. I love how the track opens with her casual guitar work before she blasts into a heavier portion of the tune with her foot stomped down on that distortion pedal. Pretty sure tons of folks will be relishing this song, not to mention the deserved fawning and anticipation that comes with a Barnett album cycle. Tell Me How You Really Feel will be out on May 18th via Mom + Pop/Milk Records.

New Amen Dunes Tune

Amen Dunes is sinking deep into the territory of entrancing psychedelia; the latest single from the group is nothing short of an intoxicating journey deep into the caverns of your own mind. The central groove that operates behind this song seems to have roots in pop music of long ago, almost tribal in nature. Layer after layer of atmospherics and electronic pulses are laid atop that tribal mix, awaiting the slight warble of the vocals. It’s like this beautiful landscape where half the people on the lawn are listening to Spiritualized while others groove to the remnants of acid house. The band’s new album Freedom will be released on March 30th via Sacred Bones Records.
