Spinning Coin Share Get High Video

When listening through the entirety of Spinning Coin‘s new Hyacinth LP, I found myself gravitating towards this tune quite a bit. Sure, there’s these uplifting guitar riffs that seem poppy and jittery, but the vocals had this gruffness that sort of offered up a rough edge from the band; they splice in a sort of operatic backing vocal that breaks up the weight of the lead too, which adds the faintest hint of musical texture. It’s the sort of little details that makes the whole of the LP enduring, bridging the gaps between various genres and styles, crafting a hodgepodge of sounds that rewards time and time again. Hyacinth should be picked up from your local shoppe on Friday, or buy it from Domino!

New Track from R.E. Seraphin

R.E. Seraphin has Austin roots, as songwriter Ray Seraphin spent time in Talkies and our own Mean Jolene, but now he’s living the dream in California. The new project will soon be releasing Tiny Shapes, so why not get this single on your radar. Little guitar stabs and intricately pick notes set the landscape for Seraphin’s voice to deliver these smoky whispers. However, the selling point is definitely the chorus; the song seemingly stops, guitar chords ring and all your emotions crash into one another as Ray delivers the line “I want it all.” Tiny Shapes will be released this Spring by Paisley Shirt Records.

Moaning Share Fall in Love Video

Moaning‘s always sort of been on the periphery of my listening. I’ve thrown on a few songs here and there, seen them live, but never wholly invested myself in the group. This might be the single that changes that. It has these heavy synth-driven tones from the get-go, and that gives the song this sort of weightiness amidst the song’s pop structures. I was really sold, however, around the 2:20 mark; there’s this huge explosion of pop momentum that turns the song on its head; it might be one of my favorite moments in music this year; they then go and turn it on its edge with some more angular post-punk exploration. Their new LP, Uneasy Laughter, will be out on March 20th via Sub Pop…and yet another band today that will be playing at SXSW.

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Share Cars in Space

It feels like its been a hot minute since I’ve jammed to Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, so it’s glad to hear that the Aussie posse is back with some new music in 2020. This new single picks up where the band left off, and to be fair, there are moments when it almost feels left over from Hope Downs. But, there’s little extra moments in the song from the chorus to the jam right after the mellow mid-song breakdown that definitely have the band flexing their songwriting muscles. Let’s hope that a new single has the band back in the saddle and working on a full-length for us, as we can’t seem to get enough of this bunch.

Nomke Shares Ended by the Morning Video

Thanks to our work with Bones Garage over the past two years, I’ve been able to get hints at other great Israeli acts, like Nomke. This is the first single off the True Queen LP, and it’s quite a stunner. You’ll find the guitar has this driving influence, just riffs and vocals before the drums jump on board to add some pace to the track. I think the voice has this softened fragility, as if Nomke is bearing her soul, which makes sense considering the thematic idea that often times our feelings and passions are “ended by the morning sun.” Feels like a great way to start off the week.

Tan Cologne Share Strange God Video

I really wanted to pair this new tun from Tan Cologne right after the latest track from HOLY we just ran because they’re both creating these huge emotional pieces, with the HOLY tune representing some sort of pulsating life force. Here, Lauren Green and Marissa Macias are creating this meditative state with “Strange God.” The absence of color in the video production calms, but also seems to evade emotions, offering up a solemnity in the world. That’s not to say there aren’t beautiful moments in the song, particularly in the meandering near the 4 minute mark with little notes echoing in the distance. If you need a moment to yourself, a moment to your thoughts, perhaps this tune can accompany you. It appears on Cave Vaults on the Moon in New Mexico, out next Friday via Labrador Records.

ES Announce Debut LP, Less of Everything

Until this morning, I knew very little about ES, but as of now, I’m completely converted. When I first played this single from their forthcoming Less of Everything LP, I was transported back to some of the stuff off the second Wax Idols LP. It had this swirling madness that was intoxicating; there is a primal pulse, and I couldn’t pull myself away from the song. In a way, there’s this tension that’s suffocating, simultaneously pulling you in with some inexplicable gravitational pull; it feels dangerous, but leaves you begging for more. Less of Everything will be released by the esteemed folks at Upset the Rhythm on April 3rd.

Bones Garage Share I’ve Loved Video

Hopefully you recall last year’s Oi Ma Yeah, the Bones Garage LP we helped put out into the world (listen here) because it was an excellent pop record, perhaps overlooked by folks in the US. But, the Tel Aviv act is back again this year with Poland, another LP we’ll have a hand in getting out to the masses. Today, they share “I’ve Loved,” which is perhaps one of the more striking songs on the new record; it’s a song all about loving everyone you encounter, despite not loving yourself enough. The video, like the song, is stripped down, focusing entirely on Ariel as she shares her song with you. Let’s hope you’re all paying attention this round, as the group is phenomenal and we’re super happy to have a small hand in sharing their music with you.

Mystery Guest Share The Red Dance Video

Wondering what’s hot in that hip Melbourne scene? Right now it seems like it’d be good to place your bets on Mystery Guest. The group offer up this super low-key club vibe, using the first 1.5 minutes to seduce you with this deep bubbling pulse working beneath smoothed melodic vocal notes. You get an energetic uptick afterwards, with the song taking on a shimmering sparkle with tribal rhythms and keyboard stabs. It’s not exactly a club bang, which is perhaps why I’m drawn to it; it feels a little more nuanced and carefully crafted, drawing out the emotional release rather than beating you over the head with it. This tune will be out on the duo’s debut LP, Octagon City, which drops March 6th via Tenth Court.

Melenas Share 3 Segundos Video

I was starting to get worried this week wouldn’t offer a whole lot of hits, then I remembered that Spanish quartet Melenas were dropping this great video from their forthcoming new album. This tune’s a jittery little rocker with this hook built in by way of backing vocals and a pounding drum beat that sets your toes tapping away furiously. There’s a middling section where the band flex their skill with a small psychedelic voyage before returning to the insatiable “ba ba ba” line that keeps ringing out in my head. Plus, if you haven’t met the band, you get a great introduction via the sitcom style presentation in the video. Their new album Dias Raros is out May 1st via Trouble in Mind Records!
