Alpaca Sports Drop New Single

There’s a new single coming from Alpaca Sports, and we’ll wait patiently as long as they keep teasing us with lovable singles like the new one below. The song works around those jangling guitar sounds, with Andreas singing gently atop, so as not to disturb the track’s natural melody. A wash of keyboard work gives the song a bit more depth, with pronounced piano notes appropriately emphasizing various notes. Those unfamiliar with the group might want to pay attention, particularly if you’ve been into things like PoBPaH as of late; it’s all charm, making us salivate for From Paris with Love, which comes out later this year via Elefant Records.

Melbourne Cans Release Heart Turned Blue

I’m absolutely in love with this new Melbourne Cans single. For starters, the whole track’s an homage to Peggy Sue, the classic figure of American rock n’ roll. Even better, the band tease you for a full minute and a half, letting Ian Wallace offer up his haunting croon with minimal instrumentation behind him. But, then the drums kick in, the song grabs a bit of swagger and bounds off into joyousness. As it progresses I adore the slightest little curl of notes at the end of Wallace’s syllables; it fits well with just the faintest hint of a backing vocal. Prepare yourself to be charmed; the band release Heat of the Night via Lost and Lonesome on July 13th.

Another Single from Simon Love

About a month ago we brought you a gem of a tune from Simon Love, formerly of the Loves. Well, under the radar he went and slipped a new infectious number right on by us, but I’m here to make amends. There’s a rousing stomp from the percussion, with pounding organ/keys bounding throughout the song to match. Love offers a melodic indiepop performance, standing juxtaposed to the gallows humor of the accompanying video. Still, from start to finish, Simon’s songs always just seem so well-crafted, suited for any time of year. Sincerely, S. Love X will be released on July 6th via Tapete Records.

Nadine Release Video for Pews

Earlier this year Nadine released Oh My via Father Daughter Records, and because music never stops, there’s now an accompanying video for single “Pews.” I love how the track opens up with this low-key electronic loop and groove, whilst frontwoman Nadia does some stretches, dance moves and mild-mannered calisthenics. She then enters the picture with a feathery voice; it’s soothing in a fashion that entrances the listener. It’s a perfect late night number (which is alluded to in the song), with Nadia’s voice riding up and down the song’s instrumental groove. The band will be hitting the road in late June/early July, mostly with labelmates Remember Sports, so keep an eye out!

Have You Checked Out Karen Meat

We know you get bombarded with hot new bands every day, but sometimes you overlook really great acts that swim under the radar, such as Karen Meat. The Iowa-based group has everything to make them your favorite act, if you’d only give it a little time. This single has this groovy funk to it, something you’d definitely find on an 80s dance floor, however, the group spins it in a far more playful manner, particularly with the biting lyrical content. You’re an Ugly Person is the album that everyone needs in their life; it’s an amalgam of influences, from electropop to doo-wop to surf pop…with just a hint of kitsch; you can grab the LP right HEREfrom Emotional Response.

Sungod Announces New LP

Austin’s Sungod have just announced the release of a new full length titled Wave Refraction; it’s of course being released by powerhouse label Holodeck Records. The lead single from the LP is “Hypnotism,” which features the digitally hypnotic video we’ve got streaming below. When turning to the music, perhaps you’d be best served to combine two elements of modern indie that we’re all familiar with at this point. One, you’ve got the instrumental electronica that all Holodeck fans love: two, you’ve got this Grizzly Bear underbelly beneath. It ends up leaving you with this blissed out expansiveness, like traveling through space, or so I imagine. The album will drop on August 24th.

Wilder Maker Release New Video

Brooklyn’s Wilder Maker are prepping Zion, their forthcoming LP for Northern Spy Records, and they’ve just released a new video from the album. There’s a bunch of things to love about the video, not the least of which is the music. The band employ a careful approach, letting the song build upon itself rather than filling in every inch of space with sonic touches; it leaves the song open and welcoming. That’s perfect, as it allows for Katie Von Schleicher to offer up an expected vocal performance, smoky and soulful. The video itself features a party scene played out in reverse, with the world’s tiniest ping son table and a plant spinning records. Look for Zion to drop on July 13th.

Michael Beach Visits America Tonight at Beerland

Michael Beach came to our attention a few years ago, as a friend of a friend from Australia connected us…as he’s currently living in Melbourne. He’s got a handful of releases under his belt, but he ventures across the pond for his US tour on the back of a fresh 7″, which features the below single for “Sessin,” recently released by Poison City Records. Tonight he ventures out into the Austin nightlife over at Beerland, joined by the likes of Minimal Animal, Chronophage and Endless Sewer. Check out this great new jam below, and come out to Beerland tonight; the doors are at 8 PM! You can find the rest of Michael’s US tour dates HERE.

New Bodega Jam For Your Ears

Up until now, the singles we’ve gotten from the forthcoming Bodega LP have largely been presented with a male voice. But, this round, Nikki Belfiglio gets to take the reins. It’s fitting, as this song is a tune of celebrating self-gratification from the female perspective…an idea that’s an homage to an early life experience of Nikki’s. Musically, those angular chords and throbbing bass are ever-present, and Belfligilio channels her inner Kate Pierson. Endless Scroll will drop on July 6th via What’s Your Rupture.

Jerry David DeCicca Releases Watermelon Video

Back in February Jerry David DeCicca released the very wonderful Time the Teacher to rave reviews. But, while he finishes up touches on his next record, he’s shared this wonderful video from his latest release for the single “Watermelon.” It’s the story of a watermelon, played by JDD himself, searching for his long lost watermelon child (featuring Canaan the dog); the entirety of the video was shot in Bulverde, Texas, where Jerry currently calls home. The song, well, it perfectly exemplifies why folks have gravitated to DeCicca’s music; it’s simplistic and personable, but always features theses delicate brushstrokes illustrating an artist’s craftsmanship. Time the Teacher is available now via Impossible Ark.
