Today is the day! Spinning Coin‘s new album, Permo, officially hits the streets. In honor of the release, the band have dropped a new video for “Money for Breakfast,” which is one of the album’s standout tunes. I think it really highlights the casual pop vibes the group have created on this effort…a sound that leans more towards Aussie pop tropes of late, as opposed to the band’s hometown of Glasgow. You can also stream the whole new LP today right HERE, and then you’ll hopefully realize this is a batch of songs you need in your record collection; it’s available today from Domino!

Big Bill Ready New LP with Pharmacy Video

Big Bill are ready to release their debut full length, Stand By Your Bill. Today they’re happy to share the video for “Pharmacy” from said album, accompanied by a great little video. The stars of the video are clearly enjoying some karaoke, with scene changes in the distance via movie magic. Like many a Big Bill track, the song sets you up in one direction before jumping in another direction with the chorus of “never admit that you’re sick.” If you dig the sounds, as you should, then head over HERE to pre-order the album from the band themselves!

NO! The video is not weak, it’s the title track of the band’s brand new Weak EP, being released by yours truly in January of next year! This week New Noise were super kind, and dropped the video for the track. I wanted to circle back a few days later, make sure we got in front of you as well before you head off into the weekend. Don’t need to say much more than we’re really excited for 2018, and couldn’t think of a better way to kick it off than with Blushing‘s new EP. Meet PR Newman

Spencer Garland’s been tinkering around the Austin music scene for some time now, but he seems to finally have found his groove with his new project PR Newman. The song definitely harkens to a bit of a folk/Americana feel, though Spencer seems willing to stretch that as near to the border of pop songwriting as possible. I love the resounding idea in the lyric “happy,” especially when juxtaposed with preceding ideas…you can follow along in the lyrical video below. It also never hurts to have a guest appearance from the Bond Twins. Welcome to your new favorite Austin act!

Montero Announces Performer

Montero has just announced his next album, Performer, for Chapter Music…so you know we’re already going to commit to enjoying it. Luckily, the song’s pretty special, living in the world where dream pop and psychedelia mingle at the bar. There’s even a funkiness to the opening moments, setting Ben Montero’s work apart from many of his Aussie peers. He even created the animated video below, and it’s difficult to tell which came first, the video or the song; they seem to match so well, it’s hard not to see them as one whole. The record drops on February 2nd of next year, so keep your eyes peeled!

Catch This Video from The Safes

Tasty Waves is just over a month old, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t go back and give some much deserved attention to The Safes. The video below features one of the standout tunes on the group’s latest effort, but it also hints at the sonic vibe you’ll get when you press play. The band pays an honest homage to 60s bubblegum pop, but its handled in a manner that is reminiscent of a lot of modern indiepop/jangle pop acts around. It’s a frivolous good times, and there’s always room over here for tunes of the like. If you’re in need of some fun pop, then get this LP now!

New Single from Bed Wettin Bad Boys

Not that long ago we brought you news of a new Bed Wettin’ Bad Boys album coming our way, and now we’ve got another jam from the album to share with you. For me, this is where indie rock should always go. The chords ring, with slight elements of distortion to keep the noise level up, but it all works in a unifying pop realm. You like noisy rock? You’ll win with this one. You want a swirling bit of pop as waves of feedback crash? You win again. Basically, we’re all winning when songs like this are unleashed into the world. Look for the group’s brand new album, Rot, to drop via What’s Your Rupture on November 10th.

Have You Heard of Papa Topo?

Admittedly, I hadn’t either, though I’m currently trying to find out as much as I can after our friends over at Elefant graciously passed the collection of songs worked on by Papa Topo, and the band’s Adria Arbona for films by Marc Ferrer (La Maldita Primavera and Nos Parecia Importante). There aren’t a lot of cuts out there, other than the one featured below, so what a great way to introduce you to it all. I’ve got it on repeat, and hopefully you will too. It’s different, but rewarding.

New Video from Romantic States

One of my favorite releases this year is Corduroy in Italy, the debut LP from Romantic States. The duo magically created this blend of dreamy indiepop, all the while holding onto a cool little edge. Today we’re bringing you a brand new video from standout track “Young Love.” The video takes a bunch of still images, lets them fade in and out of your vision. The song, however, is a gem. It takes on this slow croon, and you’re listening, thinking “this is pleasant.” Then the distortion rolls out like a wave receding from the shore, unleashing my favorite chorus piece on the record. New Music From Winter and Trabants

We’re already converts of Winter, though it never hurts to have another gem of a tune thrown our way. This number has LA act Trabants working with Ms. Samira Winter, and together, they’ve crafted an indiepop tune that’ll bounce around your head for the day. I’m in love with how Samira’s voice is sitting back in the mix; it’s clearly the focus, but at times it gets wound up with everything else, creating that dreamy black hole I’ll gladly sink into. For now, just a one-off single, but what a great number nonetheless.
