Brooding Number from the Prids

Portland’s the Prids open their latest single with an ominous building of tones. But, don’t let that fool you, as they turn towards a glimmering pop bent once they reach the song’s chorus. It completely allows the band to walk the fine line between post-punk sensationalism and indiepop…perhaps post-pop? Whatever it is, the production is great throughout; I love how the guitar chords seem so faint, yet so present. Still, it’s all about that great chorus. This song features on the band’s new album, Do I Look Like I’m In Love, but you can also catch them out on the road with our faves, PoBPaH.

Another Entry from Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett

Still trying to figure out why this album isn’t titled Kurt and Courtney, but I suppose Lotta Sea Lice will suffice for now. The song below is a great one, though I’m sure that we all figured combining the prowess of these two great songwriters would be as such. Still, I’m drawn to the endearing quality of the video, with both artists being filmed in their everyday lives on their respective sides of the pond. It drives home the sentiment of the bond between two intercontinental friends playing great music, while also driving home the fact that all our favorite artists are just regular old folks. Look for the release on October 13th via Matador Records.

Bedroom Pop Vibes from Dances

Two things about this video made it worth posting: great song and camaraderie. The song, I think speaks for itself, hanging out in the realms between bedroom pop and lo-fi sensibility; it just has a really good vibe to it. That vibe carries on in the video, which is really one of the reasons I keep coming back to it; it just looks like everyone in Dances just really loves one another, rally cares about being together…no star…just a band hanging together. Just a one off hit for now, but you’ll definitely enjoy these vibes.

Check Out Dead Oceans New Signing, Shame

Shame signs to Dead Oceans with a ton of UK hype behind them. It’s definitely going to be interesting hearing out the rest of the band’s tunes come across; this single’s great, but you could see an album of like-minded tracks wearing you out. It works around a bit of call-and-response punk ethos, though you can clearly hear that the band has a pop-centric focus…be it in the chorus or in some of the guitar sounds. It’s a good introduction, but we’ll hold out on full fandom until their debut drops in 2018.

Seductive Pop from Vilde

Remember in that one movie where he played the Beta Band, then everyone went and bought it? Well, I get that sentiment when I watch this video/new tune from Stockholm’s Vilde. There’s this quiet electronic groove that flows beneath the ground, allowing all this room for the angelic voice of Thomas Savage to weave further magic through your speakers. Just as I’m lost in the song, I turn to the video to find a collage of images fading in and out of one another and find myself completely lost in the beautiful madness of my own mind. This is his final piece in the Study Dance collection, and by far the most intoxicating…give it a go.

Watch a New Molly Burch Video

We’ve always got to rep Austin, particularly for our artists that have had huge successes. So, today we’re revisiting Please Be Mine, the excellent debut from Molly Burch that dropped earlier this year. Today she just released a video for “Wrong for You,” one of the standout tunes on said album, with the focus of the video revolving around the relationship of a couple (starring Molly). If you haven’t listened to this record, well shame on you. But, if you have, this is the perfect place to revisit the whole thing. It’s available now from Captured Tracks.

Watch a Video for New Lou Rebecca

If you were out and about last night, hopefully you hit up the Holodeck Records night, where they premiered a video from their newest signing, Lou Rebecca. The French popster, LR is backed by Josh Mills, who should already be a household Austin name for his work in Silk Rodeo and Missions. Along with the video, the label announced that they’ll be releasing a limited cassette come this January…featuring this gem of a tune. If you haven’t caught on to Lou Rebecca yet, you better get on it quick, as she surely will be a common name in the very near future. Grab the tape HERE.

Check the Video Premiere of Light Beams Desiring Creatures

Not too long ago, I was raving about the work of Light Beams, and they’re back with a new hit single to go feature on their split with Ian Svenonious new solo project, Escapism. I love the flash video work done on this new track; it seems to step right in long with the groove-laden track, pulsing as the vocals are released. I’m continuously impressed by the band’s minimalism, working with synth loops, bass and drums; it also encapsulates an evolving sound for those familiar with the band’s hometown of Washington DC (and singer Moyer’s other band, Puff Pieces). The split 7″ with Svenonious will be released on September 22nd via Lovitt Records…you can grab yourself a copy right HERE.

Cut Worms Signs with Jagjaguwar

Good news for people who like good music; Cut Worms has signed on with Jagjaguwar, helping to spread of Max Clarke across the globe. I appreciate the fact that while Clarke operates within the confines of folk, he seems to be approaching it in slightly different manner, something that sounds more orchestrated and grand than many of his peers; it just makes the whole composition sound more soulful, matched by Max’s voice. His debut EP, Alien Sunset, will be released by the label on October 20th.

Enjoy This New Dinner Video

When I first encountered Dinner at SXSW a bit ago, I regarded him as a bit of an oddity, something you had to see to believe. But, the great thing about that performance was that it made me go back and listen to his music; I’ve been hooked ever since. His excellent new album New Work just dropped via Captured Tracks, and this video provides a further illustration at the intoxicating qualities of his tunes. Deep vocal tones dancing atop steady beat work should be enough to grab the ear of any listener. He’ll also be touring the US throughout October with a date in Austin on the 23rd at Hotel Vegas.
