New Sleaford Mods Video

A lot of us are spending are time lately worrying about how much we hate Donald Trump, but let’s not forget that our UK brethren have their own issues…not too far unlike our own. Sleaford Mods, of course, will always take aim at the monarchy…always take aim at those exploiting others. This video accompanies their latest single, kicking it with this bubbling bass line, while the rest of the song seems revolves around a synthetic beat…it’s like LCD Soundsytem if they had a political bent and were still relevant. You’ll find this song on the group’s new LP, English Tapas, hitting on March 3rd.

Premiere: Western Homes Video + Super Secret Show

Just before the year closed, Western Homes released a great self-titled EP (you can buy it right HERE), and now there’s a brand new video to go with the track “Mind the Gap.” The track itself is a pretty bare bones affair, mostly consisting of vocals and guitar work, but it’s the unique quality of the vocals that always attracts me…it’s part guttural punk rock and part balladeer. In the video we find Westy in a contemplative mode, set against various local backdrops and bedroom shots. It’s a great way to get into Western Homes, and a great way to get into the catalog of Super Secret Records…who are having a showcase tonight at Beerland with Quin Galavis, New Berlin, Nick Allison and, of course, Western Homes!

Watch This Bent Video

Bent just released their brand new LP, Snakes and Shapes, via our fave, Emotional Response. They just upped this rad video, which though it seems like casual footage, actually follows along the lyrical content. The song celebrates the band’s brooding post-punk aesthetic, bordering on rambunctious, yet with enough restraint to hold onto the song. It’s likely you’ll find yourself indulging in repeated listens, as you should, and if you’re so inclined, you should pick up the album why you’re at it; it’s available HERE.

New Video from Serengeti and Sicker Man

Serengeti‘s typically been known for his work in the hip-hop realm, and while I’m sure that still holds true to his heart, his work with Sicker Man is taking him somewhere entirely different. For instance, the video below accompanies this brilliant piece of electronically washed pop; I can’t help but find myself comparing the piece as an homage to Magnetic Fields…all the way down to the heavy tones of the vocals. It’s just one of those songs that finds its way under your skin, and the next thin you know you’ve played it ten times in a row! Look for this tune on the Doctor My Own Patience LP, which is being released on December 16thby Graveface Records.

Love This New Ne-Hi

Chicago’s Ne-Hi has been on our radar for sometime, but with the announcement of their new album, it looks like we’ve got something delicious waiting for us on the other side of the New Year. The band uses this video to unleash a slow-paced hook, matched by the footage seemingly shot in a similar fashion. For me, as per usual, the vocal tones are what hooks me…reminds me a bit of our friends the Young Girls…not quite on pitch, but quite off either. Grand Jury is going to be handling the release of Offers, which comes out on February 24th of 2017.

Premiere: Dusken Lights Give Video Service to Lodestar

I’ve previously written about the delightful pop record released by Dusken Lights, and now the band has provided the album standout “Lodestar” the video treatment. In the video you’ll find images of observation and celebration woven together, emanating a certain feeling of joyousness. It fits in well with the vibe of the song, providing a casual journey of folk-inspired indiepop. The band employs bits of electronics and a female vocal counterpoint to give the song balance; it layers the inherent melody, captivating your ears within seconds. In the Service of Spring is the title of the latest album, and you can find it HERE.

Premiere: New Music from Erki Parnoja

Lately, my musical tastes have been looking for a journey, and this brand new track from Estonia’s Erki Parnoja is perfect. The song features this grooving bit of instrumental guitar maneuvering, with just a faint hint at vocals living occasionally underneath. But, for me, the special part of the tune lives in the middle where the guitars are paused and an ambient bit of atmospherics works its way through your speakers. It has the perfect cinematic world built in, which goes great with the accompanying video that Erki has put together illustrating how he came about creating the album art for his follow-up to the Himmelbjerget EP. Listen and love my friends.

New Terry Malts Video

Have you bought the new Terry Malts LP yet? If not, I’m not sure what you’re waiting for, but in case you needed more convincing, then enjoy this brand new video from the group. Personally, I love the black and white aesthetic of the performance video; it seems to also fit the band’s sound. As far as the track goes, you’ll just need to listen to hear everything you love about pop music; I think the moment at the 1.50 mark where Phil and the band turn towards a classic guitar pop sound is brilliant. How folks haven’t discovered that this is one of the strongest group’s working today is beyond me. Grab Lost at the Party now from Slumberland Records.

ATX Spotlight: Pleased to Meet You, Daphne

I’m clearly a big fan of Santiago, who writes tracks for Growl and Rain Collectors, but he’s been quietly working on a new project, Daphne. Today, he shared a video of himself playing one of these delightful new tracks. Aside from the quality of the video, I’m partial to hearing Santiago’s voice with it’s little vocal inflections as he chases after higher notes. No word on a release in the long run, but why not just be grateful we’ve got more great music from one of Austin’s best.

More New Lower Plenty

The first single from Lower Plenty‘s new record had a foot in the modern Aussie sound we’ve all be championing here in the States, but the latest tune takes an entirely different approach, offering a slow burner. I’m sure this will get annoying for the band, but you can’t help but to hear some lineage to Lou Reed being channeled in this song. It’s mostly carefully touched percussion, guitar and vocals, with a special touch being layered with string arrangements. I like to see that there’s two sides of the coin with most bands, especially when you haven’t heard the whole record…so you never know what you’ll get. Look for their new album, Sister Sister, on November 18th via Bedroom Suck Records.
