If you haven’t spent some time with High Bias, the latest from Purling Hiss, then there’s your first mistake. But, you’ve got time to correct that mistake by listening to the song below and falling head over heels for the group. This song’s already won me over with it’s 90s college rock feel, working that territory between catchy and cool. I think one of the best things about the album, and this track, which is on display here, is the lighthearted vibes spun around pop sensibility. You’ll see the band here just goofing, so it’s both charming and delivering the band’s musical message. Grab the album from Drag City.

Video Premiere: Nick Allison Announces New EP

Austin has a history of great troubadours of the indie sort, and it looks like Nick Allison aims to make his mark as the next big name in the continuously growing list. Throughout the video we see Nick, clearly focused on not working, or rather on putting in the least effort into his employment opportunities. That might be a good thing, as the ringing guitar matched by his voice create the perfect blend for pop fans with a bit of punk attitude; I think my favorite bit has to be the vocal tone during the chorus. He’ll be releasing his Aint Tryna Go Downtown EP on November 4th via Super Secret Records.

Premiere: Quin Galavis “Glorious Man” Video

Earlier this year, I raved about the new release from Quin Galavis…his new album My Life in Steel and Concrete. His release show was something quite special in and of itself, and now he’s released this new video to further draw you into his musical world. The video features Quin and his cellist, clad in dark hoodies, doing their part with the live performance, whilst Ali Copeland (of Que Pasa) plays the role of our distraught protagonist. Her role reeks of frustration, which could be seen as one of the various themes that exists within the folds of the album itself. Brand New Delay Trees Brings Power Pop

Soliti Music in Finland always passes on the best hits to us from overseas, but I had no idea they had this beautiful new Delay Trees tune in wait. The group are readying their album Let Go for everyone, so why not give the world this track. It’s as if they were telling all the fans of soft power-pop, akin to Nada Surf, that all your dreams and wishes would be fulfilled. The melody here is spectacular, and the subdued vocals fit into the churning guitars in such a way that they seem to swirl inside your head. We’ll keep you posted on the release, but in the meantime, lose yourself in this delectable hump day treat.

Not to long ago, Altadore released their latest, Opal, Luna and Hymn, which is definitely one of those pleasurable listens that should have made it’s way to you by now (if not, find it HERE). They’ve given us the pleasure of sharing their brand new video for “Capable Wolf,” one of the many standout tracks on the record. Below you’ll find the band accompanying their delicate pop with elements of beautiful landscape, spliced between bits of road trips and band appearances. It’s the perfect way to deliver the song, as the careful touches of strings arrangements definitely create visions fitting for the video version. Feel free to lose yourself in both song and visual; your morning will be better off for it!

New Ablebody Video ft. Sean Nicholas Savge

We’re a few weeks away from the release of Ablebody‘s full-length release, Adult Contemporaries, and the band have offered up this new video for their latest single. This is the sort of dreamy pop I’ve come to expect from the band, with the video seemingly matching the album’s contemporary adult motif. There’s a softness to this track, which walks that fine line between indiepop and soulful R&B, which is probably owed to the beautiful touch of Sean Nicholas Savage‘s vocals. Look to get your hands on their new LP via Lolipop on October 14th.

The Burgeoning Cover the Neighbourhood

Radio pop music is an easy target for us all, but sometimes it just takes a touch from an artist you enjoy to have you look at it a different way. For me, I hate the Neighbourhood, but I really love the Burgeoning. I’m excited to hear the band’s new EP, Loud Dreams, in full…and instead of going the traditional route with single after single, they’ve recorded a bunch of covers in the abandoned house where they practice. It sounds pretty similar until the latter half where they take it into their own shimmering dream pop territory. Look for their new record on October 28th, and realize that even the radio might have something to offer us.

ATX Spotlight: New Music from RF Shannon

I’ve been a fan of RF Shannon since I caught wind of their work via Punctum Records, and now Shane Renfro ismoving forward with thebrand new Other Trails EP. Perhaps one of my favorite things about the project is that it consistently acknowledges the influence of Texas, be it in the sound, or the imagery, like in the video below. You get a bit of both here, which is just another reason to keep an eye on all the work that’s promised to be on its way; not to mention that there’s always this level of thoughtfulness streaming from RF Shannon releases. I don’t really need to say more than that you’ll enjoy this tune, and probably the EP when it’s released on October 21st via Keeled Scales.

Brand New Video from The Chairman Dances

In case you haven’t seen all my fawning over The Chairman Dances, I hope this new video gets you as excited for the group’s release as I am. This song takes on that literary pop mixed with the fuzzy guitars you might hear on those new Grandaddy songs you’ve been raving about. I like how the guitar gives an energetic boost to the track, which otherwise could fade into the realms of stereotypical pop…it doesn’t! There’s a nice angelic vocal chorale to close out the song to boot! Pick up your copy of Time Without Measure from Black Rd Records now.

Pop Hit from Patience

Man…it’s a bummer Veronica Falls is no longer functioning, as it seems like every member has a ridiculously rad side project, be it Boys Forever, Ultimate Painting…and now Roxanne gives us Patience. We’ve heard very little but there’s a this brand new video/hit that definitely nicks from 80s club hits, even in the construction of the accompanying video. That being said, I love her voice here, and would basically listen to anything she does at the moment. And now that I think about it, maybe V Falls is just working on world domination by offering up a bunch of diverse tunes…whatever the reason, listen to Patience and look for The Pressure 7″ from Night School Records on September 30th.
