Check the New Troller Video

holodeckI won’t lie to you; I completely should have been on the ball giving more love to Troller. Their one of the great bands in Holodeck‘s stable, bringing some of the most interesting electronic music in town to the masses. Troller just released Graphic, which is a darkened collection of lush synth-pop tracks, including this standout, “Storm Maker.” The video matches the feeling of the song, unfolding various images as the vocals dance around in the atmosphere. If you’re smart, you’ll get your hands on the LP right away.

Real Deal Lo-Fi from Frozy

frozeYesterday I went on a big giant spin listening to Frozy, and their album from last year on Odd Box Records. What set me off? The video below! Not only is the song perfect, and the real deal when it comes to lo-fidelity, but it works in direct contrast with the video. Yet, when watching, it all works together so magnificently. I don’t really know how much more I can love this band right now, but all Iknow at this point is that this track will come out on a release some time in the future (hopefully later this year). Anyways…these guys aren’t lo-fi pretenders, which makes them all the better…that and the song kills.

Lost Tapes Release New Video

12742816_1027405533983391_6617029569881673984_nBeen spending a lot of time listening to the dreamy pop sounds of Lost Tapes over the last few weeks. They just got up their debut album, Let’s Get Lost; it’s an understated bit of dreamy electro pop. I like the imagery of the video, especially the fact that it’s shot in black and white. It seems to fit well with the song, as the vocals are resting just behind the mix, at least in my ears. If the song strikes you, you’ll love listening to the record…relaxing and thoughtful, but filled with emotion.

ATX Spotlight: Star Parks Release Video

12742495_447276415463790_1036545225375841755_nWhen RayRay and I first met, I think we bonded over a few bands, and one of those was Wilco. Through their changes and different paths, I’ve loved the band’s sound, which is one of the many reasons I’m super interested in Austin’s Star Parks. They call to mind several acts, but their acoustic version of “Theoretical Girls” in this video definitely calls to mind the harmonies that hit the right notes, a la Wilco. You can hear the album version HERE, which has a bit more filled in musical accompaniment…namely some beautiful string/horn arrangements. All in all, this is a band to keep an eye on at the moment. They’ll be releasing their debut, Don’t Dwell, on May 13thvia Paper Trail Records.

New Video from El Campo + Show Preview

elcampEl Campo came onto my radar a few years ago with a little work they did for Punctum Records, but the band has been really hard at work over the last year, touring all over, and even having time to sit together and record this track off their recent Double AA record. I love the video, illustrating not only the pop-centric Americana, but the bond of friendship shared by the band members themselves. This is our, and your, first glimpse of the family-style video…hopefully it point out why you should check these boys out. Oh, and where can you see them? They’re playing this Friday night at Lamberts with Wiretree. Doors for the show are at 10 PM (More info HERE). See you there? If not, grab the new AA record HERE.

Watch the New Merries Video

12106948_1206840252663241_4324044664999367683_nThere’s definitely a soft spot in my heart for perfect guitar pop; I’m always looking for the sort that brings in distorted guitars wrapped around touching harmonies…sort of what Nada Surf‘s been doing for years. So here we have Helsinki’s Merries and their new video for “Travel to the Sun.” My only complaint is that the song might be a few seconds short; I could listen to this on repeat for hours. This song appears on the band’s forthcoming album, which is due later this spring, but it’ll appear on a 7″ from Royal Mint Records if you love it like I do.

Hospital Ships Video Debut

hospitalSeems like this is the month for all things Hospital Ships, especially here at ATH. We interviewed Jordan about SXSW, as well as featured several new songs from his forthcoming LP, The Past is Not a Flood. We’re fortunate enough to offer you another special treat today, with a live video of his song “Nothing to Hide.” This is perhaps one of the album’s most personal songs, as well as the most direct in its simplicity. Here we have Jordan working over a piano with his fragile voice carrying the track. The video’s pretty naked emotionally as well; I love seeing him completely lost in the song, as you’re likely to feel the same. Look for the new LP on March 11th via Graveface Records.

New Single & Video From Bergen

12346393_1028336280551107_8372644075798823823_nFinding new artists to share with you eager awaiting fans is a bit of fun for us here at ATH and today I’ve got a new one for ya with Bergen. The duo, based between London and Padova, Italy, create an interesting new form of dream pop mixed with some darker elements of the shoe gaze genre. I highly recommend watching this entrancing video to go along with their new song “Girl” as it accompanies the tune rather nicely. This track appears on a new EP coming out soon. I will of course be sharing more information once I have it. Enjoy.

You Won’t Return with New Album

youwontI really enjoyed Skeptic Goodbye, the debut from You Won’t, but I haven’t heard anything from the band since then…until yesterday. They’ve just announced the release of their new effort, Revolutionaries, which is going to be handled by Extraneous Music. Their sound has always been difficult to identify, working within the confines of indie rock, Americana and folk music. This song shows the band fleshing out their sound a bit more, filling in some of the empty space that might have been audible on their debut. The record comes out on April 29th, and they’ve also got a video for the tune HERE, if you’re into the visual affects.

New Single & Video From Fruit Bats

unnamed (16)Over the years I’ve made plenty of posts on this site about Fruit Bats and their Americana sound. Today I’m pleased to share with you a brand new single from Eric Johnson and company entitled “From A Soon-To-Be Ghost Town”. Once again the listener is treated to a unique take on the indie folk/country genre. The driving and rambling sounds make me want to head out on the open road.

Fruit Bats will releaseAbsolute Loser on May 13th via Easy Sound Recordings.
