Please Watch this Ari Roar Video

It’s rare that in less than two minutes a song can completely win me over, but that’s precisely what happened when I watched this Ari Roar video the first time; honestly, I was hooked in just under a minute. There’s such an innocence to the tune, which is further encouraged by the accompanying video. Sure, I’d love some longer tracks, but we’ll all have to wait until he releases his Patch Me Up EP via Golden Brown on September 23rd. Until then, just enjoy yourself this little video and song.

Watch the New Video from Plush

I was really bummed when The Shes called it quits, but I’ve beenexcited by the new project formed out of the ashes, Plush. The band is working withFather Daughter Records, and this new video sets up the scene for a continuation of great sounds. For most part, the song walks that line of ethereal dream pop, floating along casually. But, as the song furthers itself, you’ll hear some sonic exploration, such as extra distortion and crashing percussive elements. The band employs all sorts of sounds on their recent Please EP…which is available now. Also, look for the band to do a run down the East Coast starting this week.

Banger from Bad Sports

badsportsWhile we’ve long been fans of Bad Sports (and that’s not changing), I think this is the heaviest or hardest hitting track the group have released. It makes sense too, seeing as the group is comprised of members of Video and OBN IIIs. It’s as if the vocals on this tune were geared to incite a riot, almost barked out as orders, rather than sung. Personally, I’m in love with the bass line in this tune, bouncing quickly along to the pace of the guitar work; listen for the nice guitar solo too near the 2 minute mark. Want some rock n’ roll? Can’t get better than this…look for their new Living With Secrets EP via Dirtnap Records real soon!

Watch This Luke Roberts Video

Looks like I’m taking on some mellow tones today, and I’ll do that happily as long as it sounds like this delightful Luke Roberts tune. For me, the close work of the guitar picking creates a great feeling, and when accompanied with the video it leans towards a sensation of longing, looking to just get lost out there in the world. There’s some beautiful nature shots too, if you enjoy admiring the outdoors. This track will be featured on his new record, Sunlit Cross, which will see a release on October 14th via Thrill Jockey.

Good to Hear Ablebody Back

Through various years of running this site, we’ve been fortunate to meet some great people, including the Hochheim twins. They just put up a new video for their Ablebody project, with the news that the song will be part of Adult Contemporaries, the band’s first LP. This song’s got those sharp guitar stabs that us indiepop fans adore, cool airy vocals and a light-hearted energy, immediately getting in my daily music rotation. Enjoy the song’s accompanying video below, and look for the new LP on October 14th via Lolipop Records.

Did You Buy the New EP from The Fireworks?

No? You didn’t get the new stuff from The Fireworks? What are you waiting for? The more the word gets out on the Black and Blue EP, the more people are going to be climbing over each other to get their hands on a copy. Like all great releases on Shelflife Records, they go quick, so you should head there now to grab a copy. But, in case you need more convincing, check this great old school style horror flick the group’s using to promote their latest single…it includes some grotesque murders, of the fun sort. Watch the video, love the song, grab it!

Spend Some Time with New King Creosote Video

KingCreosote460I’m a sucker for all things King Creosote, be it his work in conjunction with other artists like Jon Hopkins, scoring soundtracks or his own work, he’s an artist I won’t hesitate to indulge. Today he released this beautiful video for the newest single on his forthcoming album, Astronaut Meets Appleman. Everything about this track, from the video to the recording has me completely sucked in; I love the slight little bit of buzz from the guitar strings as they’re strummed. His continued expansion with string arrangements broadens the song, and although I wished for a one more vocal verse, I still found myself lost within the confines of the tune. The new LP will be out via Domino in September!

More Great Pop from Boys Forever

boysWe’ve covered a few of the great tunes from Patrick Doyle’s new project, Boys Forever, and here’s yet another one as we draw closer to the release of the self-title debut for Amour Foo. It’s got the expected bounce to keep it catchy, but the video below also fulfills in that it provides the sunny attitude true pop fans understand. You can be down on your luck, and somehow songs like this just make you feel better about the world. No need to keep going here…just listen to the track.

Hope You’re Listening to Turnip King

carsongA few weeks ago, Turnip King popped up on my radar with their track “Metonymy,” which was our first listen to their forthcoming LP. Now, they’ve left us all with this dreamy new tune and it’s accompanying video, which features cropped images atop images…in my eyes, the video encompasses the beautiful moments of life, even the silly ones turning into meaningful ones. The song itself is like a dreamier, noisier Mazzy Star with the distortion billowing out to greet the harmony. Look for Laika on August 19th via Fire Talk.

Enjoying The Video Age

videoageYesterday a new video came out fromVideo Age, which you can watch HERE. It’s a nod to Kevin Bacon’s Footloose performance, and it’s an infectious little number that’ll get all your friends dancing. But, I wanted to see what else the group had to offer, and was really impressed with their other single from a few weeks ago, “Throwing Knives.” That track is completely different, offering another side of the band’s sounds; it’s more in the vein of upbeat indie rock, or even indiepop. It might only last for a few days, but at the moment, this very moment, these guys are my new favorite band. Just want to play these songs all day, and I suggest you do too. Look for their debut LP, Living Alone, to come out on July 29th via Inflated Records.
