Everybody’s Doing It: New Wand Track

wandoIt seems like every one on the Internet today is posting this Wand tune, which is fair considering I think it’s going to propel the band to the next level. Up until now, I’ve felt that the band have been living just beneath the cusp of stardom, crafting heavy-handed psych rock that’s a little more developed than many of their peers. This tune sees the band dropping full on into the pop spectrum, though they still employ those huge fuzzy guitar riffs. You’ll be able to hear this crunchy number on the band’s new album, 1000 Days, which is being released by Drag City on September 25th.

ATX Spotlight: Video Kill New Tune

videoThe opening lines of this Video track had me completely fooled; I thought I had died and gone to a prog-rock heaven (or hell in my case).  But, just be patient, as the group kicks in with their angst-laden rock n’ roll in a matter of moments, pushing quickly to the track’s finish. There’s definitely some lineage to members’ other acts like Wiccans, Radioactivity or Bad Sports, but you should instead focus on how infectious yet hard-edged this new tune feels. Look for their album, The Entertainers, to hit the streets on October 30th via Third Man Records.

New Song + Video from Proto Idiot

Proto Idiot has been my jam since I first discovered the band via their 7″ for Trouble in Mind long ago.  Since then, the band has been hard at work, writing and recording, often with such passion and pace that it makes it hard to keep up.  The band just reached out this week to toss me this video, which is for one of the new tracks the band has been working on in the studio.  The record is on its way, and we’ll have more rad tunes to share in the future, but for now, just enjoy the song and the video

Listen to New Jacuzzi Boys

Jacuzzi_Boys_Edited_2I love the Jacuzzi Boys, especially when they admittedly go back to their roots and just bang out good old fashioned rock n’ roll.  They’ve just announced the Happy Damage EP, which is set to be a representation of the band’s return to their original form, writing songs meant to be banged out boisterously by a three-piece rock act.  The first listen is perfect; it’s noisy in all the rock places, but had this punishing groove beneath it.  You can even catch a video of the band they recorded for this song as they traveled about the States making new friends; it’s HERE. Look for the new EP on the band’s own label, Mag Mag, this Fall.

Shannon and the Clams Return

Shannon and The ClamsThis track has been everywhere the last few days, but I’m just getting back to civilization, so excuse my tardiness. It’s good to see that Shannon and the Clams are back at it, and they return with a sultry twang that should definitely put them on more people’s radar.  It’s a sound that falls right in line with the band’s nostalgic nods they’ve been making over the years; this time the group rolls through the track slowly allowing Shannon’s voice to be the superstar (it always was).  Their new album, Gone by the Dawn, comes September 11th via Hardly Art.  Check the video for the song HERE.

Video Premiere: Auditorium

auditSailing vocals and careful craftsmanship are the biggest thing on display in this new single/video from LA’s Auditorium.  Sure, the adorable child at the heart of the video isn’t one to be ignored, but I love the way the songwriting sparkles through every moment in this song. The song owes a debt to the voice behind it all, Spencer Berger, whose classically trained chops definitely shine the brightest; it’s one of those special voices like Antony, where you can’t pull yourself away…a perfect example of the voice being operated at the highest level.  Give some time to this video today.

This New Ceremony Jam Kills

cereI’m a huge fan of Ceremony.  There live show brings huge energy, with Ross constantly stalking the stage to interact with the audience.  But, their recorded material has continued to impress, especially with the newest single they just released.  It’s the perfect piece of post-punk, and it seems Farrar voice has settled perfectly into the mix.  The video seems to take on man’s loneliness, with the possible Ian Curtis nod flashing for just an instant.  The L-Shaped Man will be released on May 19th via Matador Records, and I have a feeling that this is going to bring an even larger following to the band…and based on this song alone, it will be much deserved.

I Totally Missed This: New Milky Wimpshake LP

encore-un-effortI was browsing RSD, as is my yearly ritual.  I grab a few things, then just wonder around to see if there’s something special…and there it was: a new Milky Wimpshake LP! I had no idea it was coming, but many, it’s such a gem of a little LP.  For those of you that fall for endearing jangling indie pop, then this is going to be right up your alley.  The release is titled Encore, Un Effort…and Fortuna Pop put out this little video of one of the record’s standouts; I love the interplay between male/female vocalists, which is apparent throughout the LP.  Look around your local store, and maybe you’ll find one lurking in the leftovers bin.

New Video From Mideau

MideauSometimes when I’m trying to find things to post on the ‘ol interwebs, I come across music that I wouldn’t normally think I’d be into, but something about it just strikes a chord.  Today that song is “Maude” from Salt Lake City based indie pop group Mideau.  The song is a number that reminds me of an almost chilled out version of Phantogram or even old school indie rockers Headlights with a bit of an electro twist.  Of course the sweet jam has an accompanying video that compliments the track nicely.

Check out the video after the jump.

Video Premiere: No/No Unleash “Red Flag”

noI’m always eager to help spread the word for really great bands that I enjoy, and if you’ve read these pages then you’ve already heard about how much I love the No/No…formerly the Delphines. They’ve released a couple of great EPs since rearranging their line-up, and I’m still hooked on the band.  Their most recent XO EP is definitely worthy of your time, and the band have allowed us to premiere their brand new video for “Red Flag,” the EP’s third track.  Check it out below, and enjoy great music on this Monday morning.    You can also stream the EP below!
