SCHOOL Share The End Video

Our pals over at Geographie are stoked to announce the debut album from SCHOOL, dropping early in the new year. That said, you don’t have to wait too long, as the group have a single they’d love to squeeze into your rotation today: “The End.” There are really two pieces to this song. On one hand, you get modern bedroom pop, albeit spun through a bit of a disaffected youth lens. Then, you flip it over and there’s some grungy chorus that opens up on its back half to churn the tune into a sprawling pop number. Rinse and repeat, and you can certainly hear why we’re stoked with what the band are offering. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more about that new LP.

Trauma Ray Share Spectre

When looking back at this year’s albums, trying to figure out what will wrap up the Best of the Year lists, I’m hoping that this new Trauma Ray LP ends up on a lot of lists. This new single builds quietly, creeping along in the shadows with this slowcore styling. Suddenly, it erupts and drops in this block of noise, billowing through your speakers, and with the appropriate volume, rattling the inside of your house. It’s both quiet and loud, and always moving and morphing, which I adore as a listener. You’re really going to want to grab a copy of Chameleon, out October 25th via Dais.

Jamming This Spun Out Single

When Chicago band Spun Out first got going, they were lumped in with a lot of psych pop acts, and that’s all well and good, but their latest single is indicative of the band’s drive towards pop. At times, the brooding bounce offers up a bit of post-punk, but once the vocals come in the song takes on this yearning struggle, seeking solace on the other side of the horizon. That rhythm section alone, pounding away, makes this song’s vibrancy sing allowed furiously, with textured synths matching up with the vocals to brandish a forward-thinking brand of pop. We’ll see if we’re right when the band drops Dream Noise via Shuga Records on October 25th.

Skirts Shares Run + Announces Tour

Dallas-based Skirts last dropped us new music way back in 2021 with Great Big Wild Oak; it was a fairly quiet affair, mostly relying upon bedroom pop stylings from songwriter Alex Montenegro. But, with such an incredible batch of songs, the project began to hit the road, and with that, Montenegro felt more comfortable recording with her band. This tune definitely displays a fuller sound, whilst still holding to Alex’s personality; you’ll hear screaming guitars at the start, almost as i they’re embarking on a shoegaze rendition. But, those covers get pulled back, letting us glimpse the introspective craft of Montenegro. This single comes with the promise of new record for Double Double Whammy, as well as a solid tour out East through the later weeks of October.

UVTV Offer Pale Blue Island Video

Those of you looking for a step-by-step repeat of Always Something might be in for a bit of a surprise when UVTV drop The Optimistic Wrench, and perhaps no single stands out in that approach more than “Pale Blue Island.” Early PR had the group adopting a 60s lounge effect, and you can certainly see/hear those elements in the latest video; the visual representation plays with that, setting the band up in lounge attire against a stark white backdrop. Sonically, they’re slowing things ways down, almost to a crawl, but it works brilliantly. Rose Vastola enters with her voice, set atop a dominant wash of synths and thumping drums; she steals the show in the beginning, waiting for the rest of the band to catch up and build layer upon layer. Each second that goes by the group seem to be laying down new musical bricks, until it comes across as a fully formed masterpiece of heavy pop. The Optimistic Wrench is out October 11th via Papercup Music and No Non-Fiction.

A Place to Bury Strangers Share Bad Idea

Your speakers aren’t broken. A Place to Bury Strangers are just here to shred the cones to bits, hurtling razor-sharp distorted riffs at you; they’re running directly at you, smothering the vocals in this cavernous wall of noise. There’s a little bit of respite for you, with shotgun drum hits echoing in the front of the mix while everyone catches their breath. Of course, they don’t stay long pushing your right back to the suffocating realm of noise. Sort of sounds like the bastard child of Sonic Youth and the Black Angels, so I’m digging it. They’re new record Synthesizer is out on October 4th via Dedstrange.

Cosmopaark Share Olive Tree

French outfit Cosmopaark are in the midst of a solid run of tunes, with a great record last year and now a new EP on the horizon. We get another peek under the lid with their latest tune, which is a perfect blend of the light and dark that’s been captivating audiences of late. They certainly play up the softness, particularly in that very first verse, running the song over a light strum and what sounds like a sampled beat. But, they definitely dive right into the quietloud approach, blasting the warbling walls of distorted guitars right out into the world; it’s the perfect way to dive into what we can expect from the Backyard EP, out on October 18th via Howlin Banana Recordsand Stellar Frequencies.

TR/ST Share Performance Video

This bop bounced through the other day, but I missed it, mostly due to just being generally overwhelmed by the world as a whole. But, I love the world TR/ST is creating on the newest LP, which drops on Friday by the way! Early works were marked by this almost club banger sensation, but from what we’ve heard, there’s more attention being given to shadowy elements of the club…the dark corners, unlit patios, bathrooms, etc. It gives a little bit of life to those edges, offering up a nice beat element that continues to unfold as the angelic vocals drift throughout the room. For some reason, there just feels like a bit of isolation resonates here, but in that, there seems to also be comfort, like you’re okay if you find yourself dancing alone. And you are. Look for Performance this Friday via Dais.

Deary Announce Aurelia EP + Share New Video

Deary dropped on our radar with a pretty moving debut EP, and they’ve been sprinkling the musical landscape with little hints at what’s to come. Today, they finally announce a new release, the Aurelia EP, accompanied by a new video for “The Drift.” When watching the video, and thinking about concepts, it’s an interesting viewing that perfectly matches the musical ascension of the track. The joyful couple, playfully co-mingling hits with your lighter dream pop sound, and smiles abound, both for listener and the actors. But, the song eventually breaks into new territory, and that’s when cracks begin to appear, and perhaps a drifting away from one’s self, thus the final revelation of the video. A nice cinematic touch to a band that continues to impress. Aurelia is out Novemeber 1st via Sonic Cathedral.

The New Tigers Return with Saba

It’s been quite some time since we’ve heard from Finnish outfit, the New Tigers; they last dropped Do Xao in 2018, but today they return with a bit of an expansive single. In this song, they’re working with a style that’s probably aligned to the various soft and experimental shoegaze outfits, letting their guitar notes meander and wander through the wilderness of the world. But, while musically they’re evolving, they also turn to a less traditional fashion for the vocal piece, using a bit of sampled voice to run the course of the tune. Perhaps this is a hint of more good things to come, so keep your eyes peeled on their label, Soliti for more updates!
