A few weeks back we covered this great song from the forthcoming I Was a King LP, and now, I feel its in your best interest to remind you of the song’s powers by sharing their fresh new video. The last time I praised the band for maybe taking a step outside the expectations of power-pop, but this go round, let’s highlight Anne Lise Frokedal. Her stunning performance here should come as no surprise if you’ve listened to her solo work as Frokedal; I suggest checking out How We Made It. The more time I spend with this song, the more I’m almost frightened by how incredible it is. You should go grab one of the last remaining copies of Follow Me Home!

Old Fire Share Window Without a World ft. Julia Holter

There’s this building tranquility in the forthcoming LP from John Mark Lapham’s Old Fire project, and perhaps no track on the album better epitomizes that than this carefully constructed new single, featuring Julia Holter. Everything about this tune feels like slow-motion, like some sort of glitch in the matrix where you can see/hear the goings-on, but only watch from your window. Julia’s voice is actually a sample Lapham used from “World,” but he’s almost made it robotic, which only increases the solitude of the vocal in the midst of this ever expansive tune. It’s really a quieting journey you won’t want to skip in this chaotic mess of a world. Voids will be out on November 4th via Western Vinyl.

Nada Ready Fin + Share Noche

Obviously we’re extremely fascinated here at ATH by what’s going on in the Mexican scene, and thanks to Registros el Derrumbe, we can keep a closer idea on acts like Nada. On Friday, the band will be releasing Fin, their debut LP, and I keep coming back to the video for “Noche” time and time again. There’s this uncanny jaggedness to the tune, like its sort of an angular post punk tune performed as a haunting seance; it carefully creeps, lurching you forward inch by inch; the band begin to embellish the sound just a wee bit at the 1:30 mark, adding in the slightest dose of texture. This tune’s pretty brilliant, and absolutely why you should give their LP a listen on Friday.

New Music from Silver Biplanes

When listening to Silver Biplanes latest single, you’re certainly going to here that nostalgic pop feel; the vocals are certainly reminiscent of the doo-wop pop era. But, the packaging of the sugary center is a little different here. The band build a heavy wall of fuzz, bathing the sweetness in this distorted world of atmospherics. It’s like the band have constructed this cocoon of darkness, but on the inside is this brilliant butterfly ready to break free and present itself unto the world. If you’re interested in what the band are doing, as you should be, keep an ear out, as the group are set to release A Moment in the Sun just after the new year kicks off, via WIAIWYA.

Monnone Alone Shares Stay Foggy Video

A little over a year ago, Mark Monnone and his Monnone Alone project released the sparkling Stay Foggy LP. But, seeing as it’s never a bad time to share a nice tune, Mark and company have crafted a video for the record’s title track, and so here I am. The video captures the sort of astral spirit of Mark, as he walks about in the song’s opening minutes, all before he opts to ride on a cloud down a darkened street as he fuzzes up his guitar playing. It’s a great tune, with shimmering crystalline notes and Mark’s soft vocal tones, so perhaps you missed it the first time around, so go HERE to correct that!

Hot Tubs Time Machine Prep Double Tubble

The hotbed of Melbourne is constantly on our minds here, continuing to impress as the sounds have taken on more risks in the recent years, like Hot Tubs Time Machine, the working project of Daniel Twomey (Lower Plenty/Deaf Wish) and Marcus Rechsteiner (UV Race). Today we’ve got a brand new single, accompanied by the announcement of Double Tubble, the duo’s new LP. Daniel’s crafted the musical soundscape, like here where you get this electronic jittering, flirting with with time signatures, warping the groove into something that moves the listener. This unbalanced washing machine of electronic pulses is the perfect backdrop for Marcus’ narration; he toys with stories both humorous and mundane, crafting this lyrical vision of Australia that connects the dots for us all. Double Tubble is out on November 25th via Trouble in Mind/Spoilsport Records.

Alien Tango Shares 1000 Years Video

There’s something supremely gratifying about the work of Alien Tango. Everything seems like its tied to this genre or that, giving it this familiarity, but there’s always this otherworldly approach that seems to seep into Alberto Garcia crafts. His vocals have this distinctive nature that flirts with the dramatic, while his songwriting, particularly here, flirts with brilliant pop rock. But, he allows the track to trickle, like a broken faucet slowly leaking out little pop droplets. Lyrically, he takes on a familiar tone as of late, relishing in the joy of every minute of the day, and failing to waste a single moment…so soak up this tune. Currently, Alberto is touching up the debut LP, so we’ll keep you posted as we get news!

Phantom Handshakes Share Stuck in a Fantasy

I’m getting to a point in my life where I almost don’t even have to listen to a Phantom Handshakes tune, as I know it’s going to be right up my alley, and spin in my head for months. This new single might be my favorite piece, however, as the heavy chug of the guitars sets up the perfect contrast for Federica’s voice; she’s floating through this song like a whispering angel, hanging just on the cusp of the blossoming jangles and brooding chugs. It’s dream pop for those in favor of escapism, and listening in, your mind sets out on vacation, drifting towards euphoria. This new single also comes with great news that the band will be releasing A Passport to Remain, their new LP, this November.

The Smashing Times Share Candy Bar

When I first encountered The Smashing Times, the band was all jangles and pop, and I adored it. Now, as they prepare for the release of their Bloom LP, the band are flexing their songwriting, showing off a maturity that shines equally as bright, if not more so. This latest single illustrates that growth, slowing down the jangle to build almost a garage rock ballad; it honestly reminds me of the last Harlem record that I thought was drastically overlooked. It’s like a the perfect sunny daydream, or the brilliant closing moment to a movie set. Can’t say enough great things about this band, so be sure to grab Bloom from Meritorio; it drops on October 28th.

Winter Share Final Single from What Kind of Blue Are You

There’s been a lot of great records this year, but I get the sneaking suspicion that I’m going to spend a lot of time with What Kind of Blue Are You. As I said last time, each single is operating in the same orbit as the others, but each offers a different musical twist on left of the dial pop. This one drifts casually, relying upon Samira’s voice to slowly pull the listener into the song, then suddenly the beat drops in taking the song on this sort of trippy pop ride that operates like a sort of pop dreamscape. There’s a little of this, a little of that, and all of it, from the guests to the vibes, has been pretty special. Winter release their new album on October 14th via Bar/None Records, and hit the road with Peel Dream Magazine through the Fall.
