The Baby Seals Drop Tamoo Trance

You might have already caught wind of this track from the Baby Seals, as it was hanging out for a few days in the Bandcamp world…and now it comes with a video. The UK outfit is quite similar to their compatriots in Wet Leg, delivering global criticisms from behind a wall of playfulness and rock n’ roll. This tune directly comments on our love of consumerism…even in a paywall funded music community! There’s a bit more rock in the band’s work, which definitely lets them bring out more growl, as you can hear in the repeated belting out of “Tamoo trance” in the chorus. Not only do you get a sweet video, but you can grab the song on a new 7″ courtesy of Trapped Animal Music.

Keeled Scales Sign Hiding Places

We love our good buds over at Keeled Scales, and we hope you all enjoy the good tunes they bring your way…like their latest signing Hiding Places. They announced the signing with this delightful slow burn indie rocker from the NYC outfit, and you’ll quickly hear why they’ve already got our ear. While the song opens with a distorted wall of noise, the tune quickly moves into territory of great pop songwriting, akin to the recent work of acts like Wednesday and Jay Som; it’s heavy, but never shying away from an affection for great hooks. The group plan to release a new LP via the label next Spring, so keep your ears warm and ready.

New Video Mikky and the Doom

A few weeks back the good folks of Mikky & the Doom reached out with their new video; I totally loved it, but then life caught up to me and it got lost in the world of unanswered emails. I should have been on it though, as this track’s blown up in a matter of days…deservingly so. The tune offers up a blend of sultry garage rock and glam pop, sort of like if you got a punk rock version of Chromeo coming at you; the lyrical content is clever and meant to be fun, packaged in this gritty bit of hook-laden rock. Word on the street is their finishing up an album, so keep an eye out for a fresh record!

Death Hags Shares Orphee 53 Video

This summer, LA-based artist Death Hags unleashed Big Grey Sun #5 upon the world, a collection of synthetic pop tunes that burned and smoldered, giving off heat in the most pleasantly passive manner. Today, one of the standout tunes get the video treatment, and as folks are looking towards their year-end lists, it’s a chance to remind you of some overlooked gems you might not have hit. I love the subtlety of the beat work, as there’s a throbbing pulse buried way beneath the surface, letting the poppier notes kind of flutter in the foreground as Lola G.’s voice echoes through your listening room. A peaceful bit of synthpop never did you wrong; the whole of the LP is available HERE.

Natalie Jane Hill Announces Hopeful Woman

It seems like just yesterday that Natalie Jane Hill was wowing us with Azalea, her debut LP when she was in the Austin area. Here we are a few years later, and she’s got her third LP on deck, along with a new place to call home. It took me less than 20 seconds to fall in love with this single, as her heavy notes breathed life through my speakers. When her voice stretches for higher notes, there’s a lonesome bit of guitar hanging out in the distance, providing its own lonesome narrative to balance Natalie’s performance. As spirited as the first 2 minutes are, Hill switches it in the back 45 seconds, letting the thematic element of “never left me” dwell in the presence of the listener’s brain. Really excited ot hear more from Hopeful Woman, out via Dear Life Records on January 26.

Pansy Share Walk Dangerous Video

Really striking power pop songs are few and far between of late, but the best ones I’ve been listening to come from Pansy, the project of Vivian McCall. The band have dropped their latest tune, and already it’s getting rave reviews that we don’t disagree with here. Swinging guitar notes provide a charming bounce to the track, with vocal interplay adding to the crafty charms being employed throughout. I’m sure this makes zero sense to folks besides me, but it sounds like a weird mixture between Hunx and Built to Spill, with huge riffs and cleverness being belted out at every corner. Skin Graft is out this Friday.

Hirons Shares Vertigo Video

As we move into the week, taking a look into Hirons new EP for this Friday seems like a really easy way to step into the work week. While the producer definitely employs some circular returns in the craft, there are some subtle little note changes in the building of this tune that illustrate the depth of the creativity, which is why we’re all here, right? Jenny Hirons’ voice is captivating as well, heavier than many contemporaries, drawing you in with dulcet tones drenched atop the tune’s first minute or so. Careful with that video, it might just give you vertigo! The Future Perfect EP is out this Friday via Western Vinyl.

New Song from Diles Que No Me Maten

One of the disappointments of missing the last day of Levitation this year was that I didn’t get to see Diles Que No Me Maten, the Mexico City outfit who have just dropped this single from Mexican Summer‘s Sitting on the Moon compilation. There’s this sort of journeyman storytelling to their style here, accompanied by this subtle meandering of guitar notes and light percussion. They’ve incorporated some imagery from DF, celebrating the beauty of the city, tying it to the majesty of their songwriting. Totally enamored with their songwriting and storytelling; they’ll be hitting a brief tour on the West Coast, starting tomorrow.

Hit Release Pure Unreal Single

When you roll how we roll, you’re obviously going to miss a few things, as I’ve already copped to this week, but I really did love this new Hit single that dropped the other day. The New York outfit is working on polishing off a new record, slated for early 2026 release, and this tune definitely piqued my interest; there were elements that reminded me of Pains of Being Pure at Heart, especially in the chorus. That said, they take a more kind of open psychedelic approach to the vibe, rather than diving into the jangling side. Dive into the new single and keep the group on your radar for next year!

Lala Lala Signs to Sub Pop

Sub Pop has a knack for signing artists on their way up the indie rock ladder, and Lillie West’s project, Lala Lala, should be no different. Today we get news that the artist has signed on with the legendary indie label, with the first single dropping today. Akin to most of the pieces coming out lately, you get some Melina Duterte production work, working with this nostalgic groove that lets West bop and crest atop the percussive snaps going through. The tune is reflection from Lillie as she looks back on the last two years of her life living mostly out of storage and bouncing around the globe; it’s all about coming to terms with huge decisions, and it never sounded so fun.
