The Latest Video from Shout Out Louds

We’re avowed Shout Out Louds fanboys over here, and while Adam Olenius voice has dominated the band’s sound throughout their releases, the latest single builds in another layer, keyboardist Bebban Stenborg. Her voice offers the band this new layer of velvety pop that serves as the perfect foil to Adam’s voice, particularly when its set up in the open expanse of pop songwriting. I’m enjoying that the band seem to have evolved, and while the track’s not filled with that anthemic urgency from their earliest works, the melodic hooks are still driving the songwriting; I’m really a sucker for the way Bebban and Adam join up at the song’s closing moments, charming us in unison. If you dig, the band will be releasing House on February 18th via Bud Fox Recordings.

The Reds Pink and Purples Share Let’s Pretend We’re Not in Love Video

Maybe it’s the last fact that I’ve played the last few Red Pinks and Purples LPs to death, but there’s something about listening to Glenn Donaldson that just feels like coming home to your loved ones and curling up on the couch together. It’s one of the biggest reasons that I love his songwriting; it just feels safe. Understated jangles dominate the musical element behind Donaldson’s voice here, with a nice steady bit of drumming, all of it operating as this silver serving platter on which Glenn’s voice crests. Hoping for this buoyed songwriting streak to continue, so we’ll get more music soon. Speaking of soon, Summer at Land’s End, the new LP, is out on February 4th via Tough Love/Slumberland.

Good Looks Announce Bummer Year

Austin’s Good Looks has been banging about for a few years now, but they’re finally ready to drop their debut LP, Bummer Year. On this first single you get Tyler Jordan’s drawl stretching across an expanse of West Texas, vast and open, with little behind it aside from a light light strum and cymbal. Suddenly, the bass and drums drop in and the song begins to soar, with Jordan’s vocals stretching even further in the chorus. Really, it’s all about the chorus throughout, pushing the band into a more traditional rock territory that bridges the band’s home state and the modern musical climate. Expect good things from Good Looks, with Bummer Year out on April 8th via Keeled Scales.

Kindsight Announce Swedish Punk LP

I hope you’ve clicked on this tune expecting a great bit of punk rock to come blasting through your speakers; Kindsight is going to let you down, but I’m still totally in love with this track. Immersing you immediately in this wash of distorted guitars battling with this melodic noodling note, it sets the scene for the entrance of Nina Hyldgaard Rasmussen; the song pulls back just a bit to let her establish control over the track. The empty space in the tune gets filled back with that heavy riff work, creating this composed nature balancing the melodies of Rasmussen’s voice with the band’s tendency to throw in a bit of blossoming noise. You can expect this perfect control of pop songwriting when the group drop their album, Swedish Punk via Rama Lama Records this March.

Methyl Ethel Drop New Tune featuring Stella Donnelly

You ever stumble into a track, and you’ve got one thing on your mind, then suddenly your just floored and rushing to press repeat? I should have known that anything with Stella Donnelly was going to win me over, but this Methyl Ethel tune just slinks its way and you can’t escape. Sounds like sampled strings stuck to craft this pulsating groove, and then Donnelly comes in and erupts in the chorus, certifying that this tune’s a damned fine hit you’ll want to play again and again. There’s just something so fun and playful here, yet still feels like its a fresh sound you’re not likely to hear anywhere else. Are You Haunted is out on February 18th.

No Monster Club Drop Save the Circus

Irish outfit No Monster Club have a new record coming your way this year, and they open up that announcement with a really fun tune, trying to “save the circus” for us all! From the get-go, the tune introduces this jangling bounce, filling out the corners of the tune with little bits of horns before the vocals come into play. When those vocals do drop in, they dominate the tune, operating like a ringmaster, controlling everything about the track, even pushing the pace in step with the drums during the chorus. The band will be dropping deadbeat effervescent on February 11th via Emotional Response.

Kids on a Crime Spree Share Goods Get Got Video

The latest single from Kids on a Crime Spree popped up yesterday, but the owners of ATH requested only one Slumberland post a day, so we had to give into their wishes. Lucky for us, and now for you, as that gave us time to digest what might be the very best the band have to offer. I’m a sucker for a fun sing-a-long note, so this opening up with an emphatic “hey hey hey” already sold me, before the song really even jumps full throttle. From there, the trip moves into a steadied stomp, driving riffs through the speakers. But, the beat shifts and the song seems to race off, driving forth with ferocity until the track hits the 1:07 mark, opening into a catchy moment you can’t (and don’t!) want to avoid. There’s so much packed into this 2 minute ditty that it feels like the song is 5 minutes, but even better, you can turn back and blast it on repeat! Fall In Love Not In Line is out on January 21st via Slumberland Records.

Artsick Share Look Again Video

Artsick‘s forthcoming debut record, Fingers Crossed, is high upon our suggested listening for this year, but while we wait for its official release on January 21st, the band have offered one more single to grab your ears. I think “Look Again” is an excellent choice, as it shows the more patient side of the band; the previous singles have played the more frantic endearing noise pop perfectly, so here’s a little switch. This tune has the guitars a little more steady, almost feeling like they’re lower in the mix, allowing for Christina Riley’s voice to take the spotlight here. I knew it, but now you can be assured you’re going to get an array of pop delights if you grab the LP from Slumberland Records.

Modern Nature Shares Performance Video

Modern Nature‘s latest album, Island of Noise, received a ton of accolades, though it still seems like folks passed it over on its release back in November. Perhaps their new video for “Performance” will entice you to visit the island, if you’ve yet to make it their for your first visit. The song revolves around the percussive elements, with Jack Cooper (Ultimate Painting) making sure the nooks and crannies are filled out on the edges, though still allowing plenty of space for thoughtful meditation on the your state of being. This whole LP feels timeless, almost avoiding genres and pigeonholing altogether in favor of crafting a listen that rewards with each spin of the record. It’s available now via Bella Union, and out digitally on January 28th.

Letting Up Despite Great Faults Share Corners Pressed Video

In other news of things I’ve skipped the last few weeks, this new video from Letting Up Despite Great Faults; I did cover the original single though! So, here we are with the band jamming out in their practice space, each person getting a little solo time to walk about while the band jams around them. I love that you get a little bit of the live Kent vibe, as he’s one of my favorite bass players to watch. The band will be dropping their new album, IV, in early March, with a tour to follow out West with other ATH faves Blushing. You can pre-order the LP HERE.
