Villagerrr Share Swimming Single
You’re going to hear a lot for the next few months about Villagerrr, as the Ohio outfit has amassed quite a following fairly quickly, with our anticipation for Carousel matching the hype train. For me, the band’s latest single is where they’re success lives, at least in terms of our interest; it has this really bedroom pop feel, akin to acts like Alex G or Daphne Tunes. But, beneath the surface, there’s definitely a wayward twang on the horizon, which is where it slides into the hearts of us Texans, born and raised on the plains of twang. Those gentle vocal tones don’t hurt me one bit either, so I’m all on board as we look to Carousel hitting in May, courtesy of Winspear.

What a week of fun tunes! I was really stoked with some of the stuff we were able to premiere on our end, such as new jams from Lola Tried and Giant Day, not to mention that incredible Morwan track all the way from Ukraine. It was a pretty busy week on my end, heading back into the school room and what not, but lots of great music making its way to our ears. Kicking it off with one of my favorite tracks of the year, with the latest single from Sorry, but then moves in to hear our friends I Was a King dabbling in the softer side of power-pop. Plus, the folks at Skep Wax and Slumberland keep pumping out the hits with new music from The Cords and Telephone Numbers. Really excited for you to hear the newest single from Austin’s Living Set too, if you missed it by accident; there’s another Austin act in there too named the Point, you might want to check if you’re into stretching your musical brain! Just when we thought the year was dragging to a close, we managed to find enough hits to fall in love with and make you a proper playlist! We even have a few of the tracks we covered from Maneater and Boyracer missing, so be sure to check those out. I loved the opening song from Prism Shores; it’s definitely a bright spot on last week, along with the reemergence of Mogwai on the scene. We managed to get in some Austin love for Whalers and Gus Baldwin and the Sketch, not to mentioned representing for the local festival with Levitation interviews from Hello Mary and the Strange Lot. Plus, our pal Michael Maly was able to swing some coverage for Air‘s 25th Anniversary performance of Moon Safari, giving me a chance to slide “Sexy Boy” into yet another playlist. Last week was a strange one, particularly with the seeming loss of Pitchfork. But, here at ATH, we’re like the tortoise, just going slow and steady, doing our thing til we get to the proverbial finish line. There was tons of music to cover, and I mean tons, so we got to as much as we could, trying to highlight the stuff that wasn’t getting much love. Brand new music from Bolis Pupul came our way, plus Colin Newman reissue news. RayRay loved the new ripper from Gulfer. Personally, I loved the new Friko and Boy with Apple, and got to introduce you to new Fantastic Purple Spots from their EP next week! Sit back and enjoy some tunes.
