Maneater Share Wait Single

Ya’ll know I’m a diehard fan of DJ On and his Non La work; he released the excellent Like Before earlier this year. But, this is only partially about him, as he’s back with his pal Lindsay Stewart to work on their project Maneater. They’ve got a new record ready to roll, but “Wait” is our first sneak peek at what’s coming down the road. This tune fully embraces what I love about pop rock; it’s got thumping drums and a bright spirit that just makes you want to crank up your stereo and go for a zoom down a sunny highway stretch…that spirit, though tried often, rarely gets executed this well. Stewart and On are the perfect partners too, working in unison to build layer after layer of maximum hook power! You deserve a song that begs you to sing along. We’ll keep you updated on the album’s release date!

Human Barbie Release Wait

The first Human Barbie tune from the forthcoming EP was a real gem, and it looks like we’ve got another tune to devour today. On days like today, where it’s 7:30 and I’m already daydreaming, this tune is perfect, and it’s all down to the way Christopher Leopold is crafting his tracks. You can hear the elements of dream pop or shoegaze lurking in the shadows, but they end up coming across in a different manner, as Leopold is intent upon dragging out the tune a bit, filling it with patience that takes the song into more of a slowcore mantra. It’s got the bits and pieces you love, but you get to digest differently; Human Barbie will release a new EP on October 12th via Poor Man Records.

Give Growth a Listen

growthLooks like the Swedish label, Lazy Octopus Records, is going to be my new “it” label…just wrote about Lion’s Den last week, and now they’ve got this great smoky bit of not-pop for you to enjoy from Growth. Guitar here’s kept to a minimum, angular shaking in the background whilst the vocalsunfold in a smoky haze; the latter half of the track sees all musical notes taking on a more discordant vibe. This song features on the group’s upcoming Colour Cut & Clarity EP, which is being released by the label on what’s quickly becoming a packed release day, September 16th.

Happy Shivery Shakes Day

Shivery ShakesWell, our city had made us proud once this week, and it’s happening once again as Mayor Lee Leffingwell is naming today Shivery Shakes Day, in honor of our friend William and his band.  This is a great thing, as William has been working in the Austin scene for several years; first as The Bubbles and more recently with Shivery Shakes.  Plus, the band has just opened up a kickstarter to help fund the recording of their new album.  You can help the group out by donating a dollar or more right HERE.  Below you can jam to one of my favorite Shakes tunes.  Happy SS Day to you all.

Well, you better end up at Mohawk on Tuesday night as our friend Adi presents some of his favorite local acts, and ours as well.  She Sir has been rather quiet lately, but we hear they’ve got a brand new single on its way–not to mention they always put a solid show together.  Then you have one of the best acts in town with Shivery Shakes filling the middle slot; this is surely worth your $5 on a Tuesday night.  And finally, Dagars (Dallas) will kick start the evening, so get there early to show your support.  It’s cheap, and there’s great bands, so you’ve got no excuse not to be there.
