Way Dynamic Miffed It

After a bouncy little pop number, let us slide in with another track from the forthcoming Way Dynamic LP. When the label reached out with the single, they made an allusion to Nick Drake, and you can certainly hear where their head is at with that comparison. Whether its Dylan Young’s vocal performance or the way the guitar is picked up in the mix, there’s this quiet confidence that feels sublime, generating this internal happiness that radiates within you as you press play. Personally, I like the snare sound on this track, as it reminds me of sort of the basic snare sound you had in band classed, unfiltered and pure. A delightful tune that you’ll find on Massive Shoe; it drops on August 22nd via Spoilsport Records.

Way Dynamic Announce Massive Shoe

As per usual, the water in Melbourne at this time of year is sending us over lots of fresh tunes, and Way Dynamic is just another voice catching my ear. Dylan Young’s songwriting has a somewhat nostalgic vibe, sort of taking on soul and funk in its own fashion; this new single is filled with this wash of whimsy, willingly whisking you away on its hooks…like that snappy groove that gets locked in by the percussion. Backing vocals continue with the joyousness, as Young warms around the edges with this little tonal change. The new record comes on the heels of the 2024’s well-received Duck, so if you’re looking for more, check that out…or just wait until Massive Shoe drops via Spoilsport this August.

Last Week’s Jams (4.15 – 4.19)

Trying to keep pace with ourselves, we covered a ton of ground last week on the site. We got to premiere a psychedelic campfire jam from Mountain Movers, and we might be one of the few US-based sites covering Dr. Sure’s Unusual Practice…which steps in line with that Cola track we also ran. There’s a bit Austin contingent too this week, as Variety, Blushing, Strand of Oaks and Good Looks all honored us with fresh music from their forthcoming releases. We also flirted with a bit of electronic arts too, with new stuff from Martha Rose and Maria Chiara Argiro…just so you don’t think we’re all rock n’ roll over here. Anyways, start your week off here.

New Video from Way Dynamic

If you keep an eye on the Aussie music scene, you might recognize the name Dylan Young; he plays in Good Morning, Snowy Band and Cool Sounds…all bands we’ve covered. But, today is his day, as he’s just recently put up a video for his springy new single under his Way Dynamic moniker. For the verses, he certainly owes a debt to Garcia/Hunter, as the track has that classic folk styling that toes the line between rock and traditional blues. Inside the confines of the tune, however, the track doesn’t pay full allegiance to the straight-and-narrow, working some slide guitar and clarinet solos into the picture to give the textured bulk here. This song appears on the follow up to So Familiar; Spoilsport/Earth Libraries will release Duck on June 7th.

Way Dynamic Share Video for Losing Touch

Not too long ago I raved about “Losing Touch,” the latest single from Way Dynamic, so today I’ll treat you to the video version, if only to reignite your interest in this great song. I don’t know how you can be a pop fan and not enjoy the feathery vocals draped over the strummed acoustic guitar and minimal rhythm section present here. And, don’t even get me started with how ridiculously good that chorus is. The band release their new EP, What’s It All for Now, this Friday. Shout out to our friend Lach whose playing drums in the video! Go listen to this song a lot, right now!

Chilled Pop from Way Dynamic

I love the simplicity of Melbourne’s Way Dynamic, especially on the latest single. It’s a pretty easy formula in my eyes, offering up light guitar strumming, minimal percussion and some warbling electronics for spiritual support. Of course, if the vocals weren’t so musically attractive it could all fall to pieces, though luckily that’s not the case, with the perfect care given to the melodies. It’s the best way to start out your Monday, drifting into this wintry mix outside my window. The band have a new EP titled What’s It All For Now, which will be released on November 16th via Our Golden Friend.
