Immersion Share Push the Rock

While the new Immersion album is set for release next week, they’ve treated us with another look under the proverbial hood, and this one lives in two parts of my brain. Musically, there’s this electronic march that pulses, then opens up to this vibrance; it builds tension and feels constantly like its about to erupt into beautiful madness, only to show restraint and remain tempered. But, speaking of madness, well, that’s the state of the world, as the song mentions with the line “a world gone mad.” The duo question what we can all do, staring down the barrel of the gun (sorry for the cliches!) and encouraging us not to run scared like all those folks who left X for BSKY; you’ve got to stay and create, push back, and in this case, “push the rock.” WTF? is out next Friday

Immersion Announce WTF???

Monday inevitably opens you up to all sorts of vibes, but one vibe I’m always ready to get behind is Immersion, the duo of Colin Newman and Malka Spigel. I was fortunate enough to catch them at this year’s SXSW, and their mesmerizing performance elevated my affection. Today, they announce WTF?? with a brand new video and single; it operates in much the same way their previous work has, putting poetry atop carefully curated sonic structures. There’s a it of propulsion in the beat work this go round, but I’m really drawn to the light wave of ambiance that kind of blankets and pulls back on the tune. The duo will release the new LP on their label Swim on September 26th.

The Best Gallery Of The Year

2013 Pics BannerI had a fun year.

I took a lot of photos. I met a lot of artists. I took some portraits. I got jumpshots. I found the interesting people in the crowd, friends and strangers alike. I rejected releases and used my cell phone (looking at you Adam Ant). I went to festivals and went elbow to elbow with besties, frenemies and national media to get you the goods. I got to shoot The Cure and New Order. I saw new great bands breaking out and great bands before breaking up. I took pics of bands for which Nathan released records. I had a fun year.

I hope you enjoy browsing and clicking. They are a collection of random things and happenings.

Head over to the big photo site, search and get a print, if you feel so inclined…
