Over the Thanksgiving holiday one of my favorite new finds of the year, Telekinesis, appeared on the famed Daytrotter website. The new hyped band play 3 songs from their self-titled debut album and one older song from the Telekinesis independent days. Here’s a tasty little number called “Calling All Doctors” which should brighten you day.

Long time fans of genre hoppers will definitely be pleased to hear that those clever kids in Violens are dropping a free Winter Mixtape for you on their web site. This little mixtape, and it’s not that little, will probably win over fans, as the guys sing over My Bloody Valentine while playing over the Byrds. Sounds like nothing short of a guaranteed test of musical sanity. Unfortunately, it’s a mixtape, so I can’t throw a sample up for you, but I’ll give you a taste of “Doomed,” which is remixed on this mix.

We had the incredible opportunity this week to speak with solo songwriter J. Tillman about his musical endeavors. Mr. Tillman talks about his new solo record Year in the Kingdom and his work with indie powerhouse Fleet Foxes. This interview should serve as a nice preview to the J. Word is spreading like wildfire today around the local blogging community about the recent anouncment of some 230 showcasing bands for SXSW 2010. San Fran’s very own Citay are back in action and about to drop their third LP on our waiting ears. The new album will be called Dream Get Together and will see the light of day on Jan. 26th via Dead Oceans. First single from the album “Careful With That Hat” is below. The sick guitar solos and pop melodies are doing wonderful things for our ears.

As many of you also probably take part in, we here at ATH will be taking a bit of vacation time for the Thanksgiving holiday over the next couple of days. Really not sure how I missed this sweet new Tindersticks tune “Black Smoke” that hit the interwebs a couple of weeks ago. It’s sort of a 60s throw back sounding tune with vocals that fit in perfectly alongside that sweet sax solo at the end. The new Tindersticks album, Falling Down a Mountain, will hit stores Jan. 25th in the UK (via 4AD) and Feb. 16th in the states (via Constellation). This should be another album to watch for in 2010.
