San Diego band The Soft Pack, formerly known as The Muslims, are yet another band throwing their name in for ATH anticipated releases of 2010. The band’s new self-titled debut will be hitting stores Feb. 2nd via Kemado Records. For now, have a listen to first single “C’mon”. Dare we say that it’s already one of our favorites of 2010? We dare!

Mohawk is the place to be on Friday night if you’re a fan of some of the bands on our very own local label Western Vinyl. Headliners Balmorhea will be sharing the stage with our new favorite band Ola Podrida. Fellow Martin Crane of Brazos will be playing solo and opening things up.

One of our longtime favorite Canadian singer/songwriters Jason Collett is returning to action in 2010 with a new album called Rat A Tat Tat. We have the first single from that new album, “Love is a Dirty Word” available below for your listening pleasure. Have yourself a listen and decide if you’ll be picking this one up next year. Jason’s new album will hit stores March 9th on Arts & Crafts.

Gigi is the new project from producer Colin Stewart and No Kids/P:ANO band member Nick Krgovich. The duo currently have an album planed called Maintenant which will feature countless special guests and collaborators. This first tasty single “The Old Graveyard” features guest vocals from Karl Blau. If you dig(as I do), pick up the new album on Jan. 26th via Tomlab. Head over to GvsB for more info.

We thought about this long and hard, thinking over our favorite releases from bands located in Austin over the last year. Blood was spilled, jabs were thrown, but overall, we feel like we got our hands around the best releases that we feel epitomized the Austin scene in 2009. Damn the new year just keeps looking up and up! Another new release from spastic rockers Liars has just been anounced today. Their new album will be called Sisterworld and will hit stores March 9th via Mute. Have yourself a listen to first single “Scissor” and let us know what ya think.

Jay Reatard is making his triumphant return to Austin on Wednesday night at Emos, with local band Harlem. You’re guaranteed to love every bit of the music, but I recommend you bring along a set of earplugs because the last time Jay came through town, my ears rang for three days from the volume of his live set. He’s going to play fast and loud, and you’re going to enjoy every minute of it. Oh, and if you make it out to the show, let me know how the new line-up sounds.

Brooklyn collective, The Silent League, are prepping the release of their new album …but you’ve always been the caretaker for January. This new tune has a lot of the grandiose qualities of large collective like The Polyphonic Spree, although the music comes across with a great deal more focus than the aforementioned band, perhaps due to the lack of symphonic sprawl. Regardless, you’re sure to find a great bit of enjoyment in this tune. The album will also feature a bonus disc of cool remixes, one from Austin’s own, Neon Indian.

One of Austin’s finest, Quiet Company, have an intimate show planned at The Parish tonight. We realize it’s a little short on notice, but it should be worth your time. Fellow locals Frank and Derol and Windsor Drive will also be performing on the Parish stage.

Another Brooklyn band you say!? Shut up! No I will not! Yet another Brooklyn band, Via Audio, are dropping their second full length album in the early part of 2010. The album is called Animalore and features this single “Babies”. It sort of falls into the dance craze crowd, but it’s also quite the pop jam. You can get your hands on the band’s new album Februaru 23rd via Undetow Music.
