Great New Track from Tame Impala

You’d think that I would have been head over heals for Tame Impala when they first released their album Innerspeaker; the band is from Australia and they make sort of an avant-pop sound.  But, I didn’t warm to them immediately for some reason or another, but as you’ll see with this new track from their forthcoming Lonersim, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the group is on top of their game.  I love the wash of the vocals atop the instruments, and the breakdown near the middle of the track sees the group breaking up the monotony of the typical formula.  I’m definitely on board this time; you can pick up the record in October from Modular.

Indian Wells goes Borg-McEnroe

Indian Wells has a track up to download that prominently features sampled sounds of the 1980 Wimbledon Tennis Tournament. I assume 1980 because the name of the track is “Wimbledon 1980”. It takes a bit to get used to the samples, but once the textured and layered soundscape takes over, the song puts out a cooling ambient atmosphere.

While “Wimbledon 1980” gets the interesting song of the day award, I want to feature a favorite song from the Bad Panda released Night Drops. The track maintains the tennis theme in name.

Stream “Duece” below and hit this link to listen to and download “Wimbledon 1980”.

Some great shows are sneaking up on us in the middle stretch of July…

The next we’d like to highlight is King Tuff headlining a four band loud-and-fast at Red7 next Monday night. Supporting King Tuff on the tour is Natural Child. They put down a bad ass set opening for Hunx & His Punx at Mohawk a few months back. Really looking forward to seeing them again with a King Tuff chaser.

Also on the bill are The Vomettes and The Best.

New Folk Jam From The Shape Of The Earth

Just heard about this band The Shape of the Earth and have rather enjoyed the intense folk jams created by the Cali based outfit.  Their music at times kind of reminds of the louder songs created by Death Cab For Cutie back in their glory days.  The jam below “Telescope Eyes” appears on the band’s new LP Fire, Then Rain which is out now and currently streaming for free over on bandcamp.  Enjoy the tuneage.

New Electro Jam From Exray’s

I’m recovering from a Fourth of July hangover so overly loud music just isn’t doing it for me today.  This new song “Yellow Light” from San Francisco based Exray’s is hitting the spot this morning.  It’s a tune that falls into the chillwave genre with it’s easy beats and relaxed feel throughout the mix.  Almost reminds me of Gorillaz at times.

A brand new album from Exray’s, Trust a Robot, is currently streaming for free over on bandcamp.

Happy Fourth!

With everyone else taking the day off, we thought the ATH crew deserved a little break as well.  Hope all you kids enjoy the holiday and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.

Check out Do512 and Showlist Austin for things to do if you have yet to make plans.

Also remember that on a day like today, The Boss rules.

New Pop Star Tune From Gentleman Reg

Gentleman Reg is the kind of guy that could easily be labeled an indie pop star. His style is completely over the top, he creates catchy pop tunes, and he seems to take himself entirely too seriously. Check, check, and check. The new song I’ve got for you below called “Waiting Around For Gold” is the latest single from the pop hit maker and features the eccentric sound fans have always enjoyed from Reg. This new song appears on the first of 3 EPs planned for this year entitled Leisure Life Vol.1 which is out as of yesterday. A full LP collecting the 3 EPs and some additional material will be out later this fall on Arts & Crafts.

New Groove from Linfinity

Had this one sent over last night. Linfinity is out of New York and their latest EP Red Nation Waltz has some serious production credentials; Kevin McMahon who worked with Real Estate and Swans and Matt Boynton who pwned MGMT and Kurt Vile. Dylan Von Wagner’s vocal has a crazy warble to it, kind of like Tricky singing a lullaby, but the groove put down encourages head-nodding.

Click here to download the full EP and check out some video action, listen to and then download the track “Miles” below for immediate gratification.

New Music From Future Twin

This new single “Lockits” from San Francisco based Future Twin popped up on RCRD LBL yesterday and I’m deeming it worthy to share with the ATH readers.  It’s a fast paced punk rock tune with some in your face female vocals that compliment that track nicely.  A new LP will be coming from the group entitled Future Twin Delux Edition on July 31st.  The album combines several prior releases from the band all in one handy dandy place.
