Bouncy Jam from Nude Beach

One of the acts I’m really excited for everyone to catch onto this year is Nude Beach. Personally, I don’t think there’s really anything else out there like this at the moment, with a fusion of classic pop rock and lo-fi garage. Their new album II will come out on August 14th via Other Music Recording Co, which has made some great signings.  If you’re looking to get transported back into the past a little bit, but hold onto a hint of your hipster credibility, then you gotta fall in love with Nude Beach; you won’t be disappointed.

New Hit from Psychic Ills

Man, this band is really becoming something special. Psychic Ills have a new record that is set to come out early next year on Sacred Bones, and our first listen has me really excited.  It’s almost like the group has transformed into a psychedelic version of Spiritualized, using that strummed guitar, a bit muted, and including foggy vocals that lightly rest atop the instruments; it’s all juxtaposed with an organ that haunts the background of the track.

You can check out a video of the song HERE.

It’s the 6th year for local venue Red 7, and they’ve got an absolutely killer weekend of shows for you.  It all starts off Friday with some of our favorite acts playing their second show of the week at the club.  The Coathangers will be the headliner on the evening, with the three girls bring their onslaught to the stage.  They’ll be accompanied by Jaill, one of my personal favorites, playing songs from their recent album, Traps.  You’ll also get local boys The Golden Boys starting off the night in the right fashion.  It’s going to be a great week for Red 7, so be sure to get out and show the venue some love.

New Aussie Pop from Bored Nothing

I don’t think my week would be complete here without spending some time forcing my love for all things Australia on you folks.  My latest discovery is Melbourne’s Bored Nothing, who’ve just put this new track up on their site from their Bored Nothing III EP.  One of the things I’m really enjoying about this tune is the slightest rise in the pitch on the vocals; you’ve got to listen closely to hear the switch.  It’s a mellow tune, but it exemplifies the great scene that is currently going on overseas…be it garage rock or bedroom pop, keep it coming if it sounds this ridiculously good.

Show Preview: Dirty Projectors @ Emos (8/2)

Date Thursday, August 2nd
Location Emos
Doors 900 pm
Tickets $20 from C3

I’m sure this show probably doesn’t need much of an introduction, as it’s one of the hottest tickets around, but we thought we’d give you a friendly reminder about one of the big shows coming into town on Thursday.  If you’ve recovered from Divine Fits at Beerland, you should definitely check out Dirty Projectors, the indie art-pop act who’ve been making waves pretty much since their inception.  They come into town fresh off the recent release of Swing Lo Magellan, their latest record. And as if that wasn’t enough, you can also, and should, catch the marvelous opening duo, Wye Oak.  It’s been awhile since Civilian came out, but just hearing those songs live brings everything back to life.  We’ll definitely see you there folks!

More New Magic from Seapony

Our good friends Seapony, who helped kickstart our awesome SXSW party this last year, are back again with another new track from their forthcoming album, Falling. Hardly Art will again be putting out the record on what is shaping up to be a very huge September 11th release date. It seems like the group is starting to shed a little bit of their traditional hazy guitars in favor of more straight-ahead pop moments, but, that being said, it still completely works for us here at ATH.  We’re still head over heels in love with this band.
