New Offbeat Pop From CHURCHES

CHURCHES released a self-titled debut EP earlier this year that created a lot of buzz in the music blogging world.  All that buzz has created a small following for the band, so many are getting excited for this new song “Lovelife” that’s been spreading on the internet as of late.  It’s sort of an offbeat pop number that has some nice rising action when it breaks into the anthemic chorus.  We sure hope you enjoy it too.

This song is the A-side to a 7″ single coming out on December 11th.

Brand New Music From Grave Babies

After breaking onto the scene earlier this year with their surprising Gothdammit EP, Grave Babies are busting out more new music before the end of the year.  This new single “Over and Under Ground” picks up right where the band left off back in April.  It’s definitely the sort of post-punk/goth sound that we’ve come to know from the band and creates a style that only be completely claimed by these Seattle based boys.

You can get your hands on the second full length LP, Crusher, on February 26th via Hardly Art Records.

New Power Pop from Games

For those of you clamoring to the era of late 70s rock n’ roll where glam met pop met punk, you’re going to love listening to Games.  I came across the band a bit back while catching up with the work of Hozac Records, but the rocking blog, Raven Sings the Blues, just tossed up this gem a few weeks ago so I’m forced to share.  On this track, the group has a softer edge, giving them a hint of refinement, as opposed to some of the other/faster groups that kick out the jams.  You can grab the self-titled debut from Games right now over at Hozac!

Show Preview: Letting Up Despite Great Faults/She Sir @ Holy Mountain (11.29)

Date Thursday, November 29th
Location Holy Mountain
Doors 9:00 PM
Tickets FREE

Listen folks, if you’re in Austin, and you consider yourself a music fan, then you have a moral obligation to being at this show.  First, Letting Up Despite Great Faults moved to our town from LA, and since then, they’ve done wonders, releasing the excellent Untogether this year; it’s one of my favorite records of the year, period. Second, our old friends in She Sir are gearing up to take over the town with their upcoming album (early 2013); we ran their killer new single yesterday.  These are two of Austin’s finest bands, and there’s no cover at all, so you can’t really come up with a proper excuse, can you?  Oh, and Holy Mountain will have $2 Lone Star.  Cheap drinks, great music, no excuses. Be there.

New Slacker Pop From Darlings

Here’s a new tune via soundcloud called “Nothing I Don’t Care For” by way of Brooklyn based Darlings.  It’s a self-described slacker pop tune that’s been resonating in my ears today and I wanted to share it with all of your lovely people.  The band have a new album entitled Perfect Trip coming out the first of the year on January 29th.

Meet David Thomas Jones

Man, this is exactly what I needed to hear today.  David Thomas Jones, a current Austin resident has just released his Comfort Creatures EP, and if I’m going to judge the whole EP by this song, I’m going to blast this for some time to come.  You can tell that David’s got an ear for catchy hooks, but he provides a rhythmic groove to his multi-instrumental construction that really seems to destined for dance parties.  It’s a refreshing sound, as you can hear the emphasis on the layering of instruments rather than just repetitive loops of electronic beats.  Welcome to the fold DTJ.

New Dreamy Pop From She Sir

It’s no secret that we ATH kids have always been huge fans of local band She Sir and the beautiful hazy pop sounds they create.  We’ve done shows with the band over the years and tried to give them the coverage they truly deserve from music aficionados in Austin.  Today we’re very excited to be one of the first to bring you this brand spankin’ new song from the band entitled “Condensedindents”.  As we’ve said before, it would really be hard for this band to get any better, and all they do is continue to impress us with their invoative style and sound.  Keep up the good work gents.

This is first single from a new album coming early in 2013.  Stay tuned for more.

Show Preview: The Faint @ Emos East (11.28)

Date November 28
Location Emos East
Doors 7:00 PM
Tickets $19.50

Way back before it was cool to be doing elctronica music, The Faint were mixing dance beats and punk rock attitude, which birthed Danse Macabre; it’s one of my favorite records of the early 00s.  They’ll be bringing that excellent record back to the stage at Emo’s on Wednesday, along with some other rad bands to make those dance-aholics happy.  Label mates Icky Blossoms will be opening the evening, followed by our new favorites from Fun Fest, TRUST.  It’s going to be a night to revel in the joys of bands touring behind old records and a night to don your dancing shoes. Let’s do this.

What Happens When Dumbo Gets Mad

“BAM BAM”

Tasty little elctro pop fun time track was just unleashed on the internets. It is the second track from the album Quantum Leap landing after the New Year (If you are hoping for a Scott Bakula reference, well, you just got one).

The interesting bit of news for our readers across the pond is a Detour project to get the group to London. It is like a tour Kickstarter and your requests help make it feasible to fund the trip. Link here.

New Single from Teleman

And out of the ashes of Pete and the Pirates comes Teleman.  Yep, I’m a little bummed there’s no more Pete and the Pirates, but this brand new single from the newer outfit is pretty special.  It opens slowly for the most part, using the vocal to really draw in the listener.  Moving along, it adds hazy bits of keyboards and a simple drum beat before carrying you off to a blissful pop state.  You can find this track on the group’s debut single, which will be part of the new Moshi Moshi Singles Club; it comes out on January 14th, so get those wallets ready.
