We’ve follow Saint Motel for the last couple years here at ATH and we’re very excited to welcome the boys back into town on Friday night at Red 7. Gritty Pop From Gross Relations

After several spins of this new track “Cut the Final Scene” from Brooklyn based outfit Gross Relations, I’m ready to give it the ATH seal of approval. It’s a rock pop number with a touch of garage noise in there somewhere that doesn’t seem to let up its intensity until the track culminates after roughly two and a half minutes. Welcome to fun times.

You can pick up the band’s debut self-titled album on August 20th via Old Flame Records.

Show Review: Belle and Sebastian Delight Fans at ACL Live (7/16)

After a 7 year absence, Belle and Sebastian finally returned to Austin to play ~~The Bat Cave~~ Moody Theater at Austin City Limits Live. Such a long absence would require a perfect show to win everyone over once again, and as expected, the Scots more than exceeded expectations.

New Music from Velcro

I feel like it’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything from our friends in Velcro, but I know they’re always keeping busy writing, so I’m happy to share this new track with you. It’s a down-trodden tone, gently drifting along with heavy toned vocals and light guitar work. I like the fact that they get the most out of simple structures, creating an alluring emotional appeal. This track is a teaser for an upcoming compilation that the band is putting together for Osborne Again Music. We’ll keep you posted on that as more details unfold.

Crunchy Number from Kid Karate

It continues to amaze me what two people can accomplish musically. It seems like one would be tied down by limitations, but that apparently is not the case with Kid Karate. The song starts out with pulsing electronics, but then bursts into a louder stomping guitar track ready-built for destruction. Lyrics explode in a dynamic fashion, adding to the edge created as the song begins to unfold; it ends with this quiet piano outro that adds a nice soft touch to the angst-fueled attitude. You can find this tune on the band’s Lights Out EP, which comes your way next week.

Show Preview: Big Bill @ Spiderhouse Ballroom (7/19)

We were recently turned on to local band Big Bill so we deem it necessary to keep you informed on their shows and happenings around town. Friday night the band have put together one hell of a lineup at Spider House Ballroom featuring more fun power, pop punk than you could possibly imagine. The loaded lineup of course features our new boys Big Bill along with Mom Jeans, The Gone Begones, Basketball Shorts, and Penny Woolf. We hear that the joint will be rocking with drink specials, hot chicks, and plenty of rock n roll to ease you into a fun filled weekend. See ya there.

New Jangly Pop From MiniBoone

Seems like it’s been ages since we last heard from New York based pop outfit MiniBoone. To be exact, it’s been about a year and a half, and that’s just too long to go without their tasty pop music. Today we’ve picked up news from the band that they are finally ready to release their self-titled debut LP on September 10th via Ernest Jenning Record Company. To preview the new album, the band is graciously offering up this new number “I Could, I Could” found below. We dig the incredibly catchy sounds that these guys continue to create.

Smooth Dance with Barbarossa

I’d be remiss if I didn’t post this track, as I’m really warming to the sound of Barbarossa. On this song, the bass line works just beneath the vocals, providing a groove that gets your feet moving. However, the track also has this bright pop explosion that bursts forth during the chorus that makes the song more than just a minimal electronic dance number. You should all be on the lookout for the new record from the London producer on August 6th when Memphis Industries releases Bloodlines.

Great Pop Music From Ginkgo

This great pop tune called “Faded Glory” from Minneapolis based group Gingko has been spinning on my iPod for awhile and I just realized that I had yet to post it to ATH. It’s a great pop tune that is really bringing to mind images of a young Dent May or even Albert Hammond Jr. in his solo career. If you’ve been around this website before, you know that we’re down for such things.

New album Manopause will be available September 3rd via ibid Records.
