Monday Morning Dance Party with De Lux

deluxIf you’re anything close to me, then I know Monday’s can be a struggle; it’s hard to get out of bed sometimes in order to get going.  So I figured I’d bust out this throbbing jam from De Lux to get you up and out of your chair. Initially the vibe got me going, bobbing my head around the house, but then the lyrics came in, adding to the party.  They’re coated a bit here, but the muddy feel definitely adds to the vibe you’ll get with this tune. It reminds me of what LCD Soundsystem could have sounded like if they were any good.  You can get your hands on their self-titled EP on December 10th if you’re looking to party, but for now, let’s dance.

Recent Rocker from Food Court

smileFood Court first came to my attention via the RSTB blog, and I’ve been jamming their latest EP ever since that day…earlier this week. As I browsed for something cool to post for you on this Friday, I figured you’d appreciate an energetic close to your afternoon.  This track has everything you need, from a bouncing bass line to hook filled choruses that will have you tapping your toes and aching to sing-a-long at the top of your longs.  It’s the title track from the band’s Smile at Your Shoes EP, so pick it up if you need a pick me up.  Enjoy your weekend folks.

Jangling Pop from Mumbly

mumblyOk, so I admit that the jangling adjective might be a little played out, but I think it’s a pretty spot on way to approach this song from Mumbly. What’s unfortunate is that while the song is new to most fans, the band is no more.  They’ve been silent for 15 years, though this piece is finally coming to life thanks to Dufflecoat Records opting to release the Mumblybule EP. I’m not sure exactly what the release will include, nor when it will come out, but you can’t deny the infectious tunes their modern day glory.  One listen to this and you’ll be remiss that you weren’t on this sooner…at least that’s how I’m feeling as I listen.

More Indiepop from Math and Physics Club

mathMan, seems like almost five months since I’ve written about Math and Physics Club, and that’s precisely the perfect time to reintroduce you to one of the greatest indiepop acts bouncing around at the moment. The band is readying the release of Our Hearts Beat Out Loud, and this is their second single off the album.  It’s got a steady bounce from the get-go, and the casually soft delivery of the vocals are precisely what we’ve come to expect from the band.  I’m digging the way the guitar has a tendency to move back and forth between the bass and the drums, seemingly snaking its way for maximum pop effect. You can grab the CD from Matinee Recordings…it’s a must have for the end of the year.

New Tune From Shy Boys

ShyboysArtwork_medium_imageHere’s a great new track I’ve been enjoying called “Keeps My On My Toes” coming your way from Kansas City rock band Shy Boys.  It’s so short at under two minutes that you may miss some of the greatness locked within if you aren’t paying attention.  I’m reminded of bands like Girls or other poppy/minimalistic groups that have been popular as of late when I hear the song.  Though it’s short, I find myself continually hitting the play button as it ends to really enjoy that last 30 seconds or so of good times.

Check out their new self-titled album due out January 21st on High Dive Records.

FFF8 In Pictures – Saturday Edition

BleachedSaturday featured legends and legendary performances, though usually not at the same time. Johnny Jewel gets best performance of the day with double duty killer jams from Chromatics and a manic dance party with Glass Candy. MIA eludes me. I just don’t get it, but okay, the kids like to here abbreviated beats up and down. Ice-T let Bushwick Bill freestyle. Deerhunter had the most epic sound check ever, reconstructing “Marquee Moon” to test the levels.

New Music from Warm Brains

1421044_585658611487612_1302266135_oIt’s great watching little labels grow and blossom, and I’m continually impressed by the work of the guys over at Art Is Hard Records.  They up-the-ante on their subscription every year, and with that hard work, have afforded more time and finances to put out other works, such as this new piece from Warm Brains.  I can’t help but to hear little bits of Brit Pop lurking within the track, though it seems much more modern than that.  I guess you can say it’s a more angular version of what I hear when I listen to Teenage Fanclub.  The EP is titled Happy Accidents, and they’ll be releasing it on December 16th to wrap up a great year.

New Music from Finnmark!

finnmarkDuring festival season you occasionally miss the hits you were most forward looking forward to, so I definitely owe a bit of gratitude towards Howard at Indie Pop for pointing me in the direction of this great new Finnmark! We’ve written about the band on several occasions, but not since August have we heard new tunes. They’ve just put up a new single via February Records, and this one shows a more somber tint to the band’s sound.  You’ll still find a deep tone to the vocals, which go perfectly in line with the heavy jangle that holds the song together.  Take a listen to this killer tune.
