Some Americana From Wilderado

wilderadoHopefully all of us have recovered from a wet weekend and are ready for a week of heat and new music. Kick starting this week off right is this new song entitled “Wheat” from L.A. based up and comers Wilderado. This one is for fans of bands like Fruit Bats or maybe even some of the poppier sides of Dr. Dog. It’s a driving track with a great chant along chorus that’s sure to cheer up your Monday blues.

Wilderado will release their new EP Latigo on July 22nd via IAMSOUND Records.

Dreamy R&B from Sunbathe

sunbatheLooks like Lefse Records is getting into the tape business, and to introduce Golden Brown to the world, they’re releasing a compilation titled Perfectly Toasted Vol. 1. One of the track’s that stood out to me immediately was this new one from Sunbathe. It’s this dream-pop piece nodding to classic R&B sounds, sort of like a hazier bit of Camera Obscura, and I can’t stop spinning this song, even though I’m staring at a delugefrom the heavens outside my window. The compilation sees a release on June 17th…and this is a definite reason to check it out.

Brand New Music from Math and Physics Club

mathI really love this band. I guess you can file them under indiepop, but I feel sometimes that that minimizes the band’s sound…you can simply label it great pop music…in my book. They’re working with Fika Recordings and Matinee to release a collection of rarities and b-sides, but also tossing out this brand new tune, as endearing and lovely as ever. A very limited vinyl edition will be released on June 24th, and this is your chance to fall in love with one of the greatest bands you might have overlooked. Enjoy this new one from Math and Physics Club, and be sure to grab In This Together.

Stunning Tune from Ian William Craig

ianwilliamIf you’ve read the dribble of my writing, you’ve surely noticed that I’m fascinated by the power of voice. My own voice is the deep scary thing I’ve had since 3rd grade, so when I come across angelic voices like Ian William Craig‘s, I can’t help but to be drawn into the depths of every note. This new tune, just released, is a pure experiment in the rise and fall of a voice, with the instrumentation fairly inaudible, almost non-existent. There are some atmospherics that seem to counter the beauty of Craig’s voice, but you can’t take away from something so powerful. He’ll be releasing a new collection of songs, Centres, via FatCat’s new label 130701 on July 8th.

Continuously Impressed by Wymond Miles

wymondSince the Fresh and Only‘s seem to have slowed their prolific run, it’s allowed Wymond Miles to focus on some of his solo work, which is always great. I think this new single illustrates something wholly different for him, at least in comparison to his past efforts. His voice soars in a way that I don’t think I fully gave him credit for; it’s a really strong performance on that end. The construction of the song revolves around emphatic swells, crashing into your ears at just the right time, with carefully placed calming dips. Call By Night is the title of his new album, released on July 8th via Sacred Bones Records.

Give Tom Greenwood a Listen

tomThis track from Tom Greenwood came in a bit ago, and I’ve really taken a liking to the tune. There’s layers of synth working quietly to give the track a backbone, but the core of the song reminds me a lot of something I’d expect Albert Hammond Jr to pull off in his mellower moments. Tom’s been working through demos to collect the songs he loves the most, compiling and fleshing them out via his iPhone as he works on batches of songs at a time. Sometimes you just connect with a song, and I was feeling this one, so felt it best to share with you.

Even More Music from Pema

pemaThe more I hear from this new Pema release, the more I think it’s really going to surprise longtime followers of Alex Napping and their frontwoman (Alex Cohen). On this latest track, the synth/sample work is pretty minimal, with several of the beats being dragged and repeated, then looped back in for the mix. But, as one expects, the star is definitely Cohen, whose voice soars playfully throughout; she hits some notes that I didn’t expect from her, but am grateful she gets up there. Look for her debut, Doublethink, via Wishy Washy on June 3rd.

More From Earring

unnamedEarring is a Chicago based band Nathan and I have both taken a liking to over the last year or so. Though neither of us seem to able to classify the band’s sound, the boys certainly have received the ATH seal of approval. Today I’m excited to share with you their latest single “Slow Mud”. Imagine if you will that a slow core band melded with one of the best indie psych rock bands and that’s about what you have here. Unique to say the least.

New album Tunn Star will drop on June 10th via Fire Talk Records.

Savoy Motel Should Be Your New Favorite Thing

savoyWe knew this was coming (insider trader info), but we’re glad the whole world gets to finally be part of what’s sure to be the next big thing, Savoy Motel. The Nashville group should please the fans of old school R&B/boogie, whilst still showing the new school hipsters that there’s enough noise and creativity (and swagger) to make the music important to them. It’s a sound that seems timeless and refreshing; there’s nothing like it on the current landscape, and there might not have been anything like it in the past, yet you’ll feel like you’re in the know. The group are working with What’s Your Rupture now, so expect news on an album soon. Oh, and it stars Jeffrey Novak, who we’ve covered in varying ways here on the site…ya dig?

Premiere: Losers Way Home Ready New Album

losersHaving worked hard in theMemphis scene (and now out in Arizona), the fellas in Losers Way Home are ready to bring their new album, Love Songs for the Rest of Us. While there are some attributes that play upon the sound of modern indie folk, I think the string arrangements that resonate throughout elevate the track beyond the random fare; it creates musical peaks and valleys, enchanting listeners from the moment the song takes flight. An innocence also exists here, which comes in the youthful tones of the vocals. Definitely think a lot of folks will be interested to hear what these guys have to offer; look for this new album on July 22nd!
