Stream Real Numbers New Album, Wordless Wonder

realnumsMore people should make music like this. Period. I mean, I’d probably adore anything from Slumberland Records, but you should be playing this Real Numbers album all day long. It’s got this exuberant undercurrent that runs through out, though there’s enough polish lacking to let you tell your friends how cool you are for discovering their favorite new band. We live in a world of singles, so it’s refreshing to bounce along to something for a good thirty minutes of your day (then bounce all over again). If you grew up jamming to punk rock, then decided it was way cool to fall in love with pop songs too, then you’re just going to play this all day long. Look for Wordless Wonder in stores this Friday!

More New Music from Pete Astor

peteEarlier this year Pete Astor completely won me over (again) with his album, Spilt Milk(Slumberland Records); it will probably end up on my personal Top 10 List. So, it’s with great joy that we shine a light on more new music from Pete, this time from the fine folks at Feral Child/Emotional Response. There’s a forlorn longing that just naturally comes through the music elements, though the lyrical content seems more reflective. You’ve got to take advantage of great songwriters while their at their peak, and while I know folks will condemn me for this, I feel like Pete’s just now hitting his stride. Grab the new 7″ now!

Fairly Late To The Party: Circles/Waves

screen-shot-2016-10-10-at-9-57-09-pmEvery now and then, when patrolling the internets for new tracks to share, you come across something that’s not particularly new, but it’s so exciting and good that you feel compelled to spread the word– such is the case with Brooklyn based trio, Circles/Waves. The first song I heard from them snagged my attention, and it’s the song I’ve included in the post below. “Inside Out (Demo)” showcases the hauntingly beautiful vocals of Claire Lorenzo that just glide along atop the pleasing blend of folk instrumentation. If you’re liking what you’re hearing here, then you should swing by over here and check out the EP that the band released earlier in the year. Also be on the lookout for more from this group, as it looks like they’re recording a full length.

ATX Spotlight: New Major Major Major

Major Major MajorLate Sunday night, our friend John from Side One Track One ran this track on his Sunday night 101 Homegrown show (why aren’t you listening). We asked Major Major Major if we could share it with you, as this is one of my favorite tracks from the group. I love the funky guitar chords, just before the track rolls into its playful breakdown that opens the way for a joyous of chorus. Another reason I dig this tune is you can practically picture the two breaking down the track together live, interacting with one another…and you…as they kick out this great tune. Look for their new album, PG-13 Movie, via Punctum Records on October 28th, with a release show secured at Cheer Up Charlies.

Fresh Hit from Matthew and Me

matthewI like starting off Monday’s with great pop music, and this Matthew and Me tune seems to be a fitting way to kick off our week. There’s a little tribal rhythm bubbling beneath the surface as the guitars twinkle in the front of the mix, allowing room for singer Matthew Board to drape his gentle voice over it. It all builds to the emphatic chorus, though I could use with a bit more volume, personally. You’ll probably enjoy this track, so look for it to appear on the band’s new Starpoint EP, released November 18th by Beatnik Creative.

Shimmering Pop from Best Friend

bestfriendThis song hits right at the heart of my favorite genre, indiepop. You’ve got a bubbling bass line, reverb coated vocals and just hints of jangling shoegaze. It’s one of those uplifting tracks that’s made Best Friend such an enticing listen, and I like that he adds just a few seconds of something different beforethe 3minutemark to kind of get another gear in the mix. Can You Believe It is the title of the group’s debut album, which will see a Halloween release via Gezellig Records.

Brand New American Wrestlers

americanI really enjoyed the first American Wrestlers effort, and now that they’re back, readying Goodbye Terrible Youth, I’m paying close attention. This tune’s interesting, as the vocals are delivered in a rather calm manner, almost as if they’re resting during the verses. Of course, that’s all purposeful as they explode during the chorus, which you can feel as the guitar builds tension throughout the track, ringing heavily in the background. Their new record is being handled by Fat Possum, with a release date of November 4th, just in case you needed to pencil in some time.

ATX Spotlight: More from Walker Lukens

walkerNext week you’ll be able to get your hands on the delightful new EP from Walker Lukens, and before it comes out, you may as well give a listen to his brand new track . If you’ve been listening to Walker for a bit, as we all have, you’ll surely notice the broadening sound he’s adapted…not to mention studio time with Jim Eno. There’s just such a huge bit of energy to what he’s doing it at the moment, and I can’t see myself turning this song off today. He’s releasing the EP via our friends at Modern Outsider next Friday, with a rad show at ACL Ten to celebrate. Turn it up loud and enjoy yourself!

Scooterbabe Give You Great Pop Punk

scooterbabeIt seems like the trend these days is to make super short tracks, which is all fine and dandy, until some band like Scooterbabe comes around with the track “Sick Spine,” which just makes me crave more from the band! This song features a lovely addition to the Scooterbabe sound in the form of vocals from Jianna Justice, and it looks like we can expect more of her presence on the upcoming record from the band. The track is short, but it’s also a lovely example of jangly pop-punk, with great lyrics and toe-tapping percussion. Take a listen.

The Sorrow You’ve Been Toting Around, their debut full length, will be out November 4th.
