Noisy Pop Rock from Eat Fast

Remember when Wavves was exciting? Yea, me too. A few years later, we’ve got Eat Fast, offering a similar touch with furious pace, lo fidelity tendencies and hooks to boot. While the sonic blast rattles your speakers, listen closely for the backing vocals that provide a melodic undercurrent to the track. They’ve built a solid buzz overseas, and it’s easy to see why when you hear numbers like this one come through. Look for more new music from the band in 2017, and for now, just enjoy this exuberant blast of hook-laden noise rock.

You’ve Gotta Listen to Rays

Man…in a week where I’ve been struggling to find anything I love, it’s great that Trouble in Mind Records just posted the announcement of this new Rays LP. Those of you who adored the the early work of Parquet Courts will surely find the band brandishing a similar post-punk fashion…though these guys sound a bit darker, less art(y). They band out the latter half of the track by filling it with a propulsive noise that’s tied back into the main vein of the song. You can always count on TiM bringing you a solid band and a solid record; look for this self-titled LP on March 31st.

More New Proper Ornaments Tunes

This new track from The Proper Ornaments starts immediately, wrapping you up in the warmth of the band’s approach immediately. There’s a really nice contrast in the vocals, sounding sedate during the verses, with a bit of a brighter tone in the chorus (which totally sounds like a nod to Oasis by the way). Songs like this, steady and impactful have really made huge waves in this neck of the indie sphere, so we aware that everyone will eventually come around to praise these guys. Look for their new LP, Foxhole, on January 20th via Slumberland Records.

New Music from Former Bullies

First off, congrats to the lads at CF Records for celebrating 10 years (I should hope to be as lucky). Now, they’ve just announced the brand new Former Bullies LP as their first release of 2017, and this first tune’s a hit! This offering has remnants of the Television Personalities, though they seem a bit tighter here on this number, though still bringing in doses of pop and devil-may-care attitude. The album is said to reference the ending of a 10-year relationship, so if heartbreak and moving forward are your thing, then you’ll want to keep your ears peeled for more music from these guys. Look for the record on February 24th.

Hear That New Julien Baker Tune

We’ve fawned over Julien Baker about as long as everyone else has, and we’ll continue that adoration as long as she’s writing tracks like the one below. It’s the A-side to a forthcoming 7″ on Matador Records, celebrating her signing, as well as the reissue of her album, Sprained Ankle (March 7th). For such a young artists, she sure sounds confident on this new tune…whilst still maintaining a sense the sense of intimacy that makes her so endearing.

Brand New Eureka California Tune

Fresh off the release of their latest album, Versus, Eureka California is back with a brand new 7″…featuring this rocking number below. While the song takes a second or two to get going, once it hits, it blasts forth with a riotous fury, seemingly running so fast the band can barely keep up! The new single will also feature two other songs, one being a cover of Superchunk‘s “Slack Motherfucker.” And, speaking of that 7″, the band and HHBTM Records aim to remind you that singles should be reasonably priced, offering up this release for $3, giving you no excuse other than to pick it up and support the cause; do so on February 24th when it hits the streets.

Have A Nice Weekend

Sup nerds.

I have a Have A Nice Weekend track for today from a group called Stereo Off. They are a collective under the guidance of Sebastian Marciano doing dance pop electro stuff that I can get behind. This track is called “Venir” and is a single from their self-released upcoming EP III.

Have you gone to see Louis CK?

Have you seen bands during Free Week?

What’s up with this weather, right?

Turn that Stereo Off #seewhatidid and go see some music.

New Stuff From ATH Records

It’s the end of the week, so why not wrap it up by highlight some great tunes that came from our little ATH Records label.

The excellent Gold Flake Paint wrote up about Tres Oui‘s new single, “Prince of Pop.” You can read what Tom had to say HERE. Grab it HERE. Oh. We’re co-releasing it with Square of Opposition…who helped us start the label by sharing the OG Literature LP with us!

Then, Pure Volume hooked us up with apreview of the title track from Pollen Rx‘s debut LP, Sunbelt Emptiness. Check that piece out HERE, and grab it HERE.

And of course, extra streams below for the cause!

Have You Listened to Broadway? Indiepop Fans Should!

I’m always striving to find things that need to be unearthed, and that’s why I’m bringing you Broadway today…a Melbourne three-piece in need of your ears. But, that being said, the members of this band should be known to you pop fans…ties to the Cannanes and Slight of Build should be enough to pique your interest. I’m posting the standout tune, a settled pop tune with perfect male/female vocal interplay. There’s just that slight circular guitar ring/jangle that we all adore (or at least I do), but the song’s aren’t hurried, allowing for the melodies to wash over you. Look for the debut album from the trio now from Emotional Response.

ATX Spotlight: Meet Art Pop

We’re in the midst of Free Week, and that always means discovery of local Austin acts, and in the midst of all that I hit upon Art Pop. Musically, it’s hard to place the band; there’s a driving force here, but also a quirky bit of electronic pulses squawking through the background. Amongst the city there are tons of great artists, but not sure I’ve heard one combining the elements quite like this…even allowing for extra space and exploration in the song’s middle. Go ahead, give it a listen.
