Check Out This New Nomads Track

And now for something completely different… If you couldn’t tell by my early morning song, I’m in a bit of a weird mood today and am looking to share some tracks you might not normally hear on ATH. Continuing that style is this track called “Megalophobia” from Brooklyn based artist Nomads. The song is completely instrumental and features an addictive beat throughout and some crazy rising action near the end. It’s totally addictive and continues to improve with each and every listen.

Nomads have been releasing a new song every month and will continue to do so until the end of the year. Stay tuned.

Get Weird With Tinkerbelles

It’s Monday people and I think we could all use a little pick me up with a touch of weirdness to get us through the day. My new friends from Chicago, Tinkerbelles, are here to give us just such a song with “Cannibal Tokyo Rainbow”. Be ready for a sludge rock, psych tinged tune that’s heavy as hell and also incredible intricate and tight. If you’re looking for something a little different, hit play now homies.

Tinkerbelles will release Confetti at the Bottom on August 22nd via Brash Tracks (pre-order).

Another Hit from Beaches

I love the way this new Beaches song starts out, as if it we’re hearing an old faded sample come into play…but then drums kick in and the track takes off into a fuzzy blissed pop number. There’s a softness to the vocals, built with a pop reinforcement via the occasional entry of “ooh ooh ooh”s. This Aussie bunch know how to balance their heavy distortion with their pop sensibility, which is perhaps why they’ve signed on to work with one of the great Australian labels, Chapter Music. Look for their double LP, Second of Spring, on September 8th.

Solid Guitar Pop from Walter Etc

If infectious guitar pop is your cup of tea, then I’m promising you joy when you listen to this new Walter Etc track. It kind of reminds me of our own Growl, leaving pop hooks at the front of the song while distorted guitars ring out in the distance. I particularly enjoy the chorus, as it doesn’t seem rushed, coming naturally with the rhythm of the song. Plus, it’s a short little blast of fun, so you get to enjoy it and return to play it again. Gloom Cruise will be out on August 25th via Lame O Records/Lauren Records.

PLAX Give You Your Rock N Roll Fix

We’re a few weeks away from the release of PLAX‘s Clean Feeling, so why not celebrate that with a brand new single from the group. While the discordant energy seems to have a strong pace, it’s interestingly offset by the vocals stalking the listener, seemingly from a distance. That juxtaposition offers the perfect tension, almost as if you’re dangerously spinning out of control with the group. Clean Feeling is set to be released on August 11th via Super Secret Records.

Belle and Sebastian Drop New Tune

I’d be remiss if I didn’t start off Friday with this tasty new Belle and Sebastian morsel. It’s an interesting new tune, with a pretty quick-delivering vocal attack from Stuart built around basic percussion. But, as the Belles are always like to do, the song begins to swell, layers are added, leading the song to a momentary blissful burst. They’ll be touring the US through the end of July and start of August (though sadly no Austin dates). Maybe this hints at a new record just around the corner, and I’ll take that any day.

Caroline Says Drops Video

We’d be remiss if we didn’t support our friends in Caroline Says, especially considering they just dropped this brand new video and single. Plus, this is one of my favorite tracks on 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Cant Be Wrong; it has this almost dream pop vibe to it with understated jangling guitars, balanced perfectly by the heavy tones of Caroline’s voice. The group is quickly gaining new fans (even P4K got in on the action), so don’t be left out in the cold…get hip to Caroline Says! The record will drop on August 4th via Western Vinyl.

Start Your Day with New Jack Cooper

You’re almost to the weekend, so a restful state of mind is exactly what’s needed. I’m pretty sure this calming tune from Jack Cooper (of Ultimate Painting) will set you in the right mood. This is one of those songs that just seems timeless; it’s very much in the now, but you can picture your parents and their friends loving this back in the day. I don’t think I realized until writing this just how much I loved Cooper’s voice either…its the sort that will haunt you in the best way. Look for the solo debut of Sandgrown on August 25th via Trouble in Mind.

Sheer Beauty From Shelley Short

Wow. Just wow. This new song from Shelley Short is really hitting all the feelings for me this afternoon. It’s not something you would typically hear on our site, but the absolute beauty of this song is simply too good not to share. When listening to “Death”, I’m reminded of old school country artists like Dolly Parton or Emmylou Harris. One could even draw a close comparison to a local Austinite like Dana Falconberry.

Shelley will release new album Pacific City on August 11th via Mississippi Records.

A New One from Lomelda

It looks like one of the best kept secrets in the Texas music scene will no longer be such, as Lomelda is quickly making her name known outside the state. Her newest single should offer new listeners, and old fans, a glimpse into the marvel we expect when she releases Thx in September. Hannah’s voice, of course, is always stunning, gentle and sharp in its delivery. But, the work behind her vocals perfectly wraps it in a cocoon of careful guitar and light percussion…all leading to a pleasant fade out in the end. Look for the record on September 8th via Double Double Whammy.
