Love This New S. Carey Video

S. Carey‘s latest video really hits home for me, and not just musically. I used to live in Yellowstone. True story. And, I’ll admit, I wish I had Carey’s tune in my car as I drove throughout the park on errands and what not; it does perfectly match the setting and ambiance of traveling through the park. But, be warned, as they actually don’t hit the park until about the 1.5 minute mark; they go through some other locales, equally as majestic. Maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s just a damn good song, but I’m going to keep watching this video on repeat for a bit. You’ll find this track on the latest LP, Hundred Acres, via Jagjaguwar.

Enjoy New Annabel Allum

The continued growth of songwriter Annabel Allum is pretty special to watch. She’s moved from early folk stylings into a confident rocker, blending the line between the two. Her new single almost seems like a confessional, and the verses seem to be perfect if she were to play a solo acoustic gig. But, as we’ve seen with her earlier single this year, she’s building up this wall of sound with her band that comes crashing down on the listener during the chorus. Her voice takes on a soaring tone, cymbals shake and you find yourself wrapped up in every moment. Still no word on a debut LP, but another hit never hurts.

New Music from Lehmann B Smith

I actually just watched Lehmann B Smith play in Totally Mild last week during SXSW, but now we get to hear what he’s been doing on his own. Bedroom Suck Records just announced they’ll be releasing his new record Poplar Music, and we’re here to give you a glimpse with the album’s first single. It’s strange in that it feels like the song could almost be a stomp, especially with the guitar chords that sit in the back, almost propelling the song forward. But, there’s something about the way Smith has texturized the track that elevates it beyond, whether with vocal bits or atmospheric touches and tinkers. I’m digging it, if that matters; the album drops on May 25th.

Pretty Rad Holy Wave Tune

There’s something about the new developments in the Holy Wave world that have piqued my interest; they’ve stepped slightly outside the realm of psychedelia to capture a broader sound, particularly on this new single. The first several minutes of the track do harken to the core genre, though they’ve included these brighter notes, just the faintest hint of Stereolab perhaps ebbing through. Then, the vocals enter the picture, with two seemingly contrasting vocal pieces, playing to each other; it’s a nod to dreamier bedroom pop, though with a larger sound one can’t escape. It’s like some weird sandwich that encapsulates everything in the current musical climate; I love it. Check the band’s Adult Fear LP on March 30th via Reverberation Appreciation Society.

Fresh Music from New Feelings

There’s always a cycle of nostalgia in the music landscape; someone’s circling back to something in their record collection and presenting it in a new fashion. Thus, I introduce you to Sweden’s New Feelings. The band have just released their new single, and it’s striking from the moment the operatic vocal reaches through your speakers. The rest of the band strips things down, crafting a delectable club presence, equal part 80s retro and modern pop. As of now, this single is just a first step into what we hope are huge things from the Swedes; their new Introducing EP is being handled by Rama Lamafor a release on April 13th.

New One From Neighbor Lady

I knew little to nothing about Atlanta based Neighbor Lady prior to the writing of this post. What I do know is they have this great new single/video for track “Let It Bleed” which can be found below. It features some impressive, soaring vocals from front lady Emily Braden along with a dark, almost country feel to the music. I suggest you check it out now friends.

Neighbor Lady will release Maybe Later via Friendship Fever on May 11th.

Another Hit from The Love-Birds

In a year where Trouble In Mind seemingly can do no wrong, we’ve now got another track from the label’s latest signing, The Love-Birds. This song has these rising and falling guitar chords, leaving plenty of space for the vocals to do the same. I like how the slight jangling turns into a more distorted cascade of noise as the song unfolds into a close. The vocals also carry a slight rasp/warble, forcing the listener into close attention…begging you to dive into the content. Pretty impressed with the way this band’s evolving; their debut In The Lover’s Corner will drop on May 25th.

New Aisha Burns Album On Its Way

Aisha Burns is a long-time friend of the site, and we’re really glad she’s got a new LP on its way. This track hits you emotionally right from the start, pulled deep within by the sheer magnificence of her voice. Strong and powerful, it soars, but the depth of this song is truly reached when the strings are woven into the song’s tapestry. The power of the music alone should connect you to the thematic elements in Aisha’s new record; it’s an album where she works through the struggles of losing her mother and coping with such a loss. It’s a powerful piece, and we can fully expect that Argonauta will be just as strong; it’s released on May 25th via Western Vinyl.

New Track from Stanley Brinks

Fresh off a new Jessica’s Brother tune, Fika Recordings are right back at it with a tune from Stanley Brinks. He seems to always be writing, having released an album with Freshcard title Midnight Tequila late last year. This track offers newcomers the best glimpse of what Brinks is all about; his songs have this innate joy that’s akin to someone like Jeffrey Lewis. Sometimes, the songs seem humorous, but the subject matter always wraps up on the endearing side of things. You’ll be able to enjoy yourself throughout this listen, and I assume throughout the entirety of the new LP, Peanuts; it’s going to be released by Fika on May 11th.

Bouncy Post Punk from Ice Baths

It’ll take a second for the throbbing bass to kick in on this number, as Ice Baths dare listeners to turn away with a noisy opening bit. But, hold on and you’ll be tapping your toes as the track pushes you forward. The vocals have this sort of indifference in their delivery, almost as if they’re an afterthought while the guitar chords spring and jangle through the heavier underbelly of the track. Not quite angry, not quite pop…but somewhere in that cavern of in between…that sweet spot we all love. Look for the group’s debut album to drop on May 11th via Blank Editions.
