Los Esplifs Share Perro Rabioso

I listen to a whole lot of music, obviously, but I do tend to get stuck on certain albums that dominate my listening. Two records have been stuck in my rotation since early February…the new Reds Pinks and Purples (why don’t you own that already) and Estraik Back, the debut from Los Esplifs. Sure, its possibly not down hipster central, stylistically speaking, but who really gives a fuck out there. It just feels like a party to me, like there’s this natural celebratory nature to the craft; I’m constantly swaying my hips and shuffling my feet, even sitting here in my desk. There just aren’t a lot of bands that give me the feels like this lot…just wanna go to that restaurant and celebrate with them. Look for their debut on 4/20!

Ducks Unlimited = Ducks Ltd + New Tune

Not sure what the reasoning, though I’m assuming its legal issues, but Ducks Unlimited have decided to change their name to Ducks Ltd. What? Who cares? Well, for one, I do. But also, the name change comes with the signing to Carpark Records. That also comes with an added bonus, as the label will be reissuing the delightful Get Bleak EP (which I’ve raved about before), only with added bonus tracks. The tune features below features their solid jangling rocks, that sort of Billy Elliott toe-tapping fun, though I think the calming nature of the vocals is finally sinking in with more listens; it was always upbeat indiepop, but that soft underbelly is definitely resonating with this jam. Seriously, more people should make tunes like this. The reissue drops on May 21st.

Announcing Space Tan’s Inti Raymi

If you’re in the Austin area and you caught the great 101x Homegrown show last night, you might have gotten an early listen to the latest from our ATH Records label, Space Tan. We got that first tune out there last night via our friend John, and figured it only makes sense that we share the exciting news with you as well, right? So, below, you get a listen to “Summer Song,” the first tune off Space Tan‘s Inti Raymi; we’ll be putting the album out on a very limited cassette on April 30th. Slamming New Track From Dead Nature

Liverpool based artist Tarek Musa has long been known as the drummer for the garage rock/indie rock band Spring King, who built up a lot of music blogger love 5-6 years ago. Well now Musa is stepping out on his own with plans to release a debut, full length LP under his musical moniker Dead Nature. As a tease of the new album and solo work, we are pleased to share this banging new single with you called “Hurricane”. It is a pure treat in the garage rock genre as it works through a raucous pace from the very beginning and never truly lets up. Think the happy vibes of Los Campesinos if they suddenly decided to go in a more rocking direction.

Sindy Share Real Tennis Single

I’m really enjoying listening to the work of Sweden’s Sindy, as the project seems to dabble in a lot of areas that I definitely appreciate as a music fan. The dreaminess is apparent, and that’s a spot on nod for everything in my current listening rotation. But, there are also some moments that kind of pull from the sort of pop alternative sounds you’d get from a Nada Surf record, and just as you’ve come to value those two worlds colliding, the song begins to glitch and transform into something truly special. If you’re looking for a little wistful start to Monday, then grab onto this tune; it appears on the Horror Head LP, out April 23rd via PNKSLM.

ME REX Share Heart of Garbage Video

I’ve really been enjoying this new track from ME REX, as the band seem to sort of resemble a strange blend between Martha and We Were Promised Jet Packs…though I’ll admit this outfit show a bit of restraint. The rhythm section definitely drives the song forward, pounding on the drums as the band kick forth, featuring feuding vocals that scream ambition and joyous reflection. If you’re digging this song, you’ll be happy to know that there’s a handful of others from the band’s Triceratops/Stegosaurus EP, which is currently available from Big Scary Monsters.

Michael Beach Shares Metaphysical Dice Video

Australia’s Michael Beach just dropped his latest LP, Dream Violence, and now we’re treated to the really creative video work of Sophia Mero for “Metaphysical Dice.” When listening to this tune, its really all about the way that they song is textured, and it depends on what your ear draws you towards. At times, the incredible bass work is just driving the song, pulsing and bobbing and you can’t pull away. But, as you focus there, the jangling guitars in the distance start to gain more resonance, seemingly rising through the mix to take control. Through it all, Beach has this fascinating vocal delivery; it’s like a call to prayer, powerfully stretching the melody across the entirety of the tune, beckoning you to heed his words. William Maxwell Shares 2 Singles from It’s Been Here Changing for a Long Time

If you’ve ever listened to Austin’s the Oysters, you know the songwriting has a special diversity you don’t always get with a full band; songwriter William Maxwell carries that over with his solo work, as we see with the two tracks he’s shared with us today. On one hand, you get the rocking vibes of “Drifted,” working their way with some swaggering guitar riffs that open to a jittering delivery that’s part punk and part Springsteen. I love the way those notes become increasingly impassioned as the song drives forward, letting loose as Maxwell’s enthusiasm shines through his work. Flip it over and you’ll find “Bad Things,” which ends up being a more folk based ballad; the song illustrates the gentle nature of William’s voice, further lifted by the the accompaniment of Mireille Blond. Special songs by one of our town’s stronger songwriters; his album It’s Been Here Changing for a Long Time will be out on April 23rd, partnered with a great little art book, courtesy of Porchfire Records.

Melby Return with Magic

The song is titled “Magic,” but musically that seems a pretty apt descriptor, seeing how far Melby have come since their early days in the Sweden scene. This go round, they’ve really branched out, writing then heading into the studio to record right away; there’s no room for lots of thinking, so we get the freshest version of the tunes possible. I’m pretty sure Matilda Wiezell’s voice could carry this song on her own, tucking notes in at the edges to round out melody, then belting with these huge, compelling notes. Of course, the band’s bounding behind her, filling in little gaps of air with fuzz and tinkering, honing in on the experimental nature of their current writing process. As for now, this is just another great single on their label Rama Lama, but lets hope there’s a ripper of an LP hanging in wait.

Alex Riegelman Shares Animal Ending Video

This past February our friend Alex Riegelman, known about town for his role in Big Bill, dropped this incredible “Animal Ending” single; he’s now sharing the video version of the tune. The video encapsulates Alex’s playful side, featuring a hunter hunting and being hunted, or at least that’s what we might be led to believe. Musically, I’m still in love with this song, and I honestly have no way to really put his sound into words; it feels like something Paul Simon would be super into creating, but only if he was in some sort of death match with Nick Lowe…it’s all bright melodies and light-hearted euphoria, but with an uppercut of crunchy riffs and rock n’ roll flare. Come on over and dip your toes into the visually weird world of Mr. Riegelman, and stick around for the great tunes…with hopes of more on the horizon. Choose your streaming source HERE.
