Intimate Tune From Free Range

As I’m poking around the webs this morning looking for tunes and reading some news, I stumbled upon this lovely tune called “All My Thoughts” from Chicago based artist Sofia Jensen. Jensen goes by the moniker Free Range and writes these super intimate, emotion driven tunes which are at times light, but also incredibly impactful. Her debut single “All My Thoughts” is just a downright stunning song with a beautiful progression. Hopefully this is the start of a truly promising foray into the career of Free Range.

New Single & Video From Hoogenboom

Brandon Hoogenboom is a California based songwriter who writes songs under the simple last name moniker HOOGENBOOM. For those unacquainted with his work, latest single “Skipping Town” should be a perfect introduction to the songwriting style and musical stylings of HOOGENBOOM. The single has this super melodic, driving, folk inspired sound perfect for the scenery and sights that air paired in the video. Apparently more music is coming soon so stay tuned.

Slaney Bay Drop New Single LS6

We’re gearing up for Levitation tomorrow of course, but that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped listening to new tunes to share with our many, many fans. If you’re looking for something bright, yet a little hazy, with tons of emotional force, look no further than this new single “LS6” from London based upstarts Slaney Bay. I really love the almost POBPAH influence here with distinct juxtapositions between the slower moments and the more energetic and bass driven crescendos. It’s certainly worth your time.

Slaney Bay will release this singe as part of their debut EP entitled A Life Worth Living on November 11th.

Nada Share Juego Video

I only recently discovered Mexico’s Nada, but I’m deeply thrilled by the music they’re crafting. They’re latest single picks up where the first left off, taking this sort of dreamy pop realm and just twisting it into this incredibly dark brood. Everything on this tune feels like it’s anxiety-inducing; you feel as if you’re running from something, being filmed as you scream for your life…only there’s this beautiful little pop moment cruising through. The video of this tune matches up with the vibe, offering a sort of found footage that feels like its fresh from the new Paranormal Activity films. If you’re digging it, they just dropped Fin, their debut LP last Friday via Registros El Derrumbe.

The Men Return with New York City

Man, this was the jam I didn’t really know I needed, but I’m so grateful there’s a rocking new tune from The Men. They’ve just announced New York City, their ninth album, and with that, seems only fitting to drop a pummeling number to remind us all what they bring when they’re at their best. With “Hard Livin,” the band are definitely channeling the musical history of their town, feeling like a revamped version of the New York Dolls, just driving out furious punk rock vibes, with just a little bit of snotiness added in. Fuzz Club will release New York City on February 3rd.

Deuce Share Seven Hour Flower

Deuce caught our attention last year when they burst onto the scene with their debut LP, not to mention that 1/2 of the principal songwriter is Curtis from the Ocean Party/Pop Filter. Today, the Melbourne group return with this sensational new single. The songwriting on this is sharp, immediately building the melody for Kayleigh’s voice to shine; it cruises through the song like some pop music whirling dervish, spinning this meditative trance over the listener. But, there’s some nice guitar licks in there too, bulking up the texture and carrying the song in its own fashion. Fingers crossed we get more from the act real soon.

Rooms Share Moon Signs Video

You might have heard of Rooms previous, as Beshele Caron has previously operated under the I Make Earthquakes moniker…but now here we are. In preparation for the release of Don’t Be Yourself, a new video has surfaced bringing Caron’s down-trodden bedroom pop a cinematic feel, washing shots of Caron with earthly images, creating a collage effect. The song relies on a steady little snare bouncing happily, giving just the faintest pop indulgence to the tune, all the while awaiting Beshele’s voice drifts in and out of focus…like the wash of the imagery; there’s a nice little backing vocal too, adding a slight push to the tune’s hook. If you’re digging it, Don’t Be Yourself is out December 3rd via No Sun Recordings.

Heather Trost Shares the Devil Never Sleeps

When the first single from Heather Trost‘s forthcoming LP dropped, I found it a thought-provoking bit of baroque pop music. But, on the latest single, we find Trost visiting a little bit of a noisier realm…one that wouldn’t be far off from the work of Dummy or Stereolab. You press play and are almost instantly greeted with this squall of guitar noise feeding back atop a grumbling drum roll; it’s an adventure into the trance-inducing side of psychedelia. But, a little electronic blip begins to bubble up, soon joined by Heather’s voice draped atop, whispering to the listener through the fuzzy wall of sounds. The new LP, Devil Flowers, will be out on November 12th via Ba Da Bing.
