Winter Share Final Single from What Kind of Blue Are You

There’s been a lot of great records this year, but I get the sneaking suspicion that I’m going to spend a lot of time with What Kind of Blue Are You. As I said last time, each single is operating in the same orbit as the others, but each offers a different musical twist on left of the dial pop. This one drifts casually, relying upon Samira’s voice to slowly pull the listener into the song, then suddenly the beat drops in taking the song on this sort of trippy pop ride that operates like a sort of pop dreamscape. There’s a little of this, a little of that, and all of it, from the guests to the vibes, has been pretty special. Winter release their new album on October 14th via Bar/None Records, and hit the road with Peel Dream Magazine through the Fall.

Sorry I Missed This: Grave Goods

Members of September Girls and Girls Names you say? How the hell did I miss this new stuff from Grave Goods? How did I not even know this band existed? Well, I’m here to rectify my blogging error jamming out to this incredible video from the band, and talking a little bit about this great single from their forthcoming EP. The song has a heavy stomp to it, sort of a meditative brood that’s all about the power of the vocals driving things forward. As we near the song’s middle, the meditative state is replaced by this forceful rhythmic pulse, adding energy that surely satisfies any listener. Their Tuesday. Nothing Exists EP is streaming out there for you now!

Straight Rocker From Fluung

For the unfamiliar, Fluung is an indie rock n roll band from the musical mecca of Seattle, Washington. Harkening back to their city ancestors, the band has a very no nonsense, “let’s just rock” approach to their songs with an incredibly full sound for a three piece group. Latest single, “Decades”, is a prime example of Fluung showing off their post-punk, hints of grunge inspired brand of rock music. Check it out below.

This song will appear on new album The Vine due out October 14th via Setterwind Records on vinyl and Den Tapes on cassette.

Bright New Single From Mazey Haze

Dutch artist Nadine Appledoorn came on my radar a year ago with her new musical project Mazey Haze and her tunes have been hitting my frequent streams on the regular. Today I am beyond happy to share with you her latest new tune entitled “The Weight of the Weekend”. When one gets the label “indie pop” sometimes it can be a convoluted and vague genre description, but for me, this is truly a perfectly done indie pop tune. It’s light while maintaining a level of brightness and drops in short moments of upbeat, rock sounds to keep this thing engaging and mesmerizing for its short 3.5 minutes. Stay tuned.

Wings of Deseire Share Choose A Life

As I was going back over the last week or so of hits, one tune that I kept coming back to was the latest single from Wings of Desire. The UK duo are crafting this sort of propulsive pop collage that billows with hooks while still feeling insanely noisy. There’s a little melodic center to chew on, but for me, the punching nature of the track just had me begging to turn the speakers up so as to rattle the photos on the wall. Feels a bit nostalgic in its creation, but everything from the video to the production makes it feel supremely fresh. Give it a go, will you.

Last Week’s Jams, Today (9.26 – 9.30)

Hitting our stride last week, or so it seemed. We wrapped up the week streaming tons of records we’d been jamming, plus new stuff out on Friday from Gold Star, Midwestern Medicine, Matching Outfits and more. Personally, I got stuck on that Melby tune, wondering what it would take to make them huge in the US. And, since we got to spin some records, we’ve also got some upbeat numbers sent our way by Fujiya & Miyagi, Certain Times and No Zu. There’s a little bit of everything for everyone, so like us, its all over the place. Happy Monday.
