Meet The SXSW Band: Le Couleur

We ready, are you ready? Somehow it is March and now officially THE month of SXSW is upon us. If you are feeling unprepared, we are here to try and get things in order for you with our annual previews of artists coming into town in a couple of weeks. Today I am pleased to share with you some answers from Montreal based group Le Couleur. You can see everything after the jump.

What’s the name of the band/group? Where are you from?

Le Couleur – Montreal (Canada)

Describe your groups sound using only adjectives or superlatives.

Dancy – Steamy – Sexy

What was your most recent release? Any planned releases for 2023?

Listen to our very new single – Sentiments Nouveaux – released on March the 3rd

Why play SXSW? What’s the draw for the band? What about this festival will bring you to Austin?

SXSW is just a must. We played in 2018 and it went so well – nice gigs, wild crowds, we love the city. Always fun to have the opportunity to play outside of the country and escape the winter for a week.

There are tons of bands coming into town, but if you could create your own perfect festival, who would you have playing? Would it have a sick name? Where would it take place? Feel free to disregard the rules of time and space.

Anywhere in the middle of a huge forest with life size role facilities and psychedelic drugs.

What has everyone in the band been listening to, or, what plays in the tour van/car/bus?

Our most frequent listenings of the moment are Fujiya & Miyagi – Eddie Chacon (what a great come back from this amazing and talented musician) – Beyonce (latest album)

Obviously you have seen or heard about the issues coming up this year about fair pay for artists at SXSW? Care to offer any insight or comment?

It honestly didn’t come up in Canada. Just found out from you! But of course artists should get paid more and have better conditions. Artists are not considered at their fair value. Just think about how low are the royalties from any listening platform. We create your Friday night playlist, we are pretty much the main reason why any music festival can happen, we set the mood for a very strong and emotional scene in your favorite movie. We are given peanuts all the time

We’ve been seeing more and more artists get into the food and beverage game, whether its pierogis from Pavement or Deftones’ beer. If you ever got into the game, what would be your food or beverage and what would it be called?

Our lead singer is half Vietnamese – were definitely into banh mi (viet sandwich). We could also do something with our so famous Poutine. Let’s call it Band Me. Maybe people would joke around our name and would say BanG Me. So maybe its not a very good idea. Lets stay focused on the music then

Here is the current slate of shows for Le Couleur:

  • March 13th Austin (M4MTL x Investissement Qubec) @ Swan Dive (Patio)
  • March 15th Austin (Sound Dessert) @ Icenhauer’s (6PM)
  • March 17th Austin (Space Agency) @ Hotel Vegas
