Dippers Share Encouragement in Brackets

Although the name of the band has changed from Thigh Master to Dippers, there’s still one thing that you can’t take away, which is Matthew Ford’s ability to craft these insane little melodic treats in the band’s songs. When we caught Dippers during SXSW, I’m pretty sure I heard this track and was swooning with this little charm of 13 seconds; the first time it appears is at the 1:12 mark (again at 2:36), with Ford letting the syllables just hang perfectly in the air, rising and falling right into your lap. Power pop of this sort is certainly meant for the masses, so we hope you’ll grab Clastic Rock on August 4th via Tenth Court/Goner Records.

Nate Dionne Announces Fantasy EP; Shares In Blood

This Nate Dionne tune is definitely a great way to kick off a Friday, if we might. The song’s got this old-school punk swagger to it, though there’s this modern rambunctiousness to the songwriting that brings a whole new life to the track. The gang vocals in the background seem to add this almost live nature to it, creating this atmosphere of joyousness and punk house frivolity. Still, there’s also this melodic bit, and I’m probably way off base here, but I keep hearing like a mix of Billy Idol meets “Head On” by the JaMC, so there’s also this sort of nod to everything before, while still keeping it punk. Fantasy will be out on Jul 25th via Gentle Reminder and Home Late.

La Securite Share Hot Topic Video

Contrary to popular thought, the latest track from Montreal’s La Securite is not actually about your revered mall outlet. Instead, it’s a proper piece meant to score the incredible dance routine that has been edited down to feature in this film version. From the moment you’re pressing play, the dancers and the song are pulsing, claiming the space as their very own, both physical and musical. Eliane snakes around ringing guitar notes and synthetic stabs, delivering a sharp indifference to the world around the dancers and the singer. Pulsating punk elements mixed with dancefloor ready grooves make Stay Safe something to keep on your radar; it drops tomorrow via Mothland.

Corvair Share Moon Was a Bowl Video

Over yonder in Portland, Corvair have quietly been making a name for themselves as masters of great pop tunes. The duo are set to release Bound to Be next Friday, so they’ve offered up one more little treat that should have you on board. There’s a steady brood to the group’s pop vibes, particularly in this song, almost as if its just quietly creeping through your speakers. But, when they hit the chorus, there’s this shimmer, this glowing ember of melody that you just can’t shake; it opens up the track into this wider expanse that keeps me coming back. Bound to Be drops June 23rd, so you’ve been warned!

One more jam from Night Beats

It seems like this new album from Danny Lee Blackwell and his project known as Night Beats is going to be one of the surprise gems of the summer. Having already shared two hits with “Hot Ghee” back in April and “Thank You” last month, my buzz and excitement was already building. Now getting yet another jam today with this new track, “Nightmare,” I can definitely confirm that the new album is going to be a psych-rock meets disco, meets bee-bop banger, from start to finish.

The new Night Beats album Rajan is due out on July 14th via Suicide Squeeze and Fuzz Club. Pre-orders are live now.

Ciel Share So Scared Single

Ciel have quietly been winning fans over the last several years, and we’d gladly consider ourselves among those admiring the group’s work. Today, there’s a fresh new single out from the group, offering a glimpse at their forthcoming Make It Better EP. They’ve lessened the waves of guitar noise that they first brought to our ears, focusing instead on the blossoming pop rock undercurrents that have forever existed. You can hear similarities to acts like Metric, bringing in these strong vocal lines walking a fine line between spoken and sung. When the chorus hits there’s a cascading guitar cutting in, with a more emphatic punch to those vocals hitting. Their new EP will be out on July 7th.

Jangly New Tune From Mainland Break

It’s a warm one in ATX and sometimes it pays to try and imagine cool breezes with light sunshine on the coast or really anywhere that’s not 100 degrees. Denver, CO seems like a good spot at the moment, and the lads in Mainland Break are certainly making me jealous with their new jangly, indie rock joint. It also has an accompanying video that evokes those same, cooler Colorado vibes. The track sort of hits me in a Fruit Bats, meets Local Natives, meets Foreign Born sort of way and will surely hit you in all the right spots in your ear holes.

This tune will be part of a new album entitled One Way Ticket to Midnight due out on July 21st.

POSTDATA Returns with New Single & Video

Back about 2 years ago, Nova Scotian musician Paul Murphy released his third stunning LP Twin Flames under his recording moniker POSTDATA. Much to my delight, Murphy just announced his fourth LP away from Wintersleep and has also brought with it this new single “Mine the Sea.” Not surprisingly, the track offers a breath of lightness with hints of joy and love within the driving pop sounds. GEM.

This song will appear on the new album Run Wild due out in September on Paper Bag Records.

Being Dead Release Last Living Buffalo

If there was a song that encompassed the live energy and personality of Being Dead, think that their latest single is perfect. Imagine watching the band as the song begins with a bit of almost teasing with the audience, like they’re warming up here. Soon, they drop into the song, rolling drums and delivering a powerful chant of “you killed them.” But, like they do in the live setting, they switch into a different gear, letting the hook come at a buffalo’s gallop, building in layered melodies from their vocal work. Then, as if the show’s wrapping up, the song evolves into cacophony; it’s an entire show in one quick 3 minute blast! The group release When Horses Would Run on July 14th via Bayonet.

The Illness Share Single and new AI Video

I have a feeling many of you are like me, completely unaware that Bob Nastanovich and Steve West (of Pavement fame) have gone out as the Illness to craft an entirely different breed of music. They’ve got the Summerase EP coming out next week via Sea Records, and this is the first track to tease us just a little bit. You can lock into Bob and Steve’s grooves, just as you would in the old days, but here you get these vocal lines overlapping, creating this sort of spaced out disorientation, immediately locking you into the visual journey created to accompany the video. Speaking of that video, it’s entirely AI created, so not only do you get the duo pushing into new musical horizons, but their choice of video also sees them trying out new things. Grab the Summerase EP on June 23rd!
