It’s here ladies and germs, it’s officially time for another festival here in Austin as things for Levitation festival kick off on Thursday and run through Sunday. Your friendly ATH team of course has made plans for tons of coverage with some previews and interviews to get you prepped and excited for the long weekend ahead. As part of our preview process, we continue today with a quick interview from long time ATH favorites Shannon and The Clams. Hit the jump for the interview, set times, and some tunes.
All responses come from keyboardist Will Sprott
What’s the name of the band/group? Where are you from?
We are Shannon & the Clams from Oakland, California. That’s where we started. Now we have all spread to the wind.
Describe your group’s sound to a new fan using only adjectives.
Sparkly, weird, pleasurable, nostalgic, adventurous, trippy, emotional, fun, mind-melting, smile-inducing
What was your most recent release? Any planned releases for 2023/2024? Where can we get our hands on a new release?
Year of the Spider from 2021. New record is in the can & will be released Spring of 2024.
We’ve got a great lineup in town for the weekend. Anyone you are trying to see?
Blonde Redhead, Flying Lotus, Amyl & the Sniffers.
If you could put on your own one day festival with say 5-10 bands (up to you) who would be on this bill? You may travel through time and use artists who are alive or dead or on hiatus… you get me. Where would this awesome concert be?
This concert would be in my yard so I don’t have to leave my house & it would be Howlin’ Wolf, Yanti Bersaudara, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, La Luz, & Johann Sebastian Bach
We always like to hear about what bands are listening to in their van/bus on tour. What are you guys spinning? How long does each member get to play DJ?
Shannon listens to murder podcasts or watches TV shows, Nate twists around the AM dials of the radio or drives in silence, Cody puts on some German synth music & taps computer code into his laptop & I hide in my headphones & listen to spacey piano music & stare out the windows or read a book. We are pretty equitable about the airwaves.
The band gets to create their own taco pop-up shop at Levitation! What’s the name, and what sort of tacos will you have? Any sides?
We fly in our friend Oscar who has a restaurant called Tacos Oscar in Oakland
& he serves up all his delicious veggie tacos.
You can catch Shannon and the Clams this Thursday at 7:40 pm over on the Stubbs outdoor stage. See ya there!
