About Last Night – SXSW (Saturday-Tuesday)
As you may have heard, SXSW kicked off this past weekend with some great local shows, especially our lil shindig over at Hotel Vegas with SOTO. Things continued into the early part of the week with most of us venturing out all over town to catch some bands before Austin gets truly wild closer to next weekend. We some bands, we took some photos, and as always, we have things to say. After the jump, you can check out some of our band highlights so far, along with fancy photos from our crew. Hit it.
Top Bands Nathan: Delivery destroyed. They’re young and vibrant, and a little bit kind of wonky, like if the Television Personalities bred a pop punk band. Annie-Claude Deschenes won me over as the frontperson for Duchess Says, and it’s incredible to see her have the same command over an entire audience, even as a solo electronic act. Immersion, as expected were brilliant; that’s the post.
Nathan’s Thoughts so far: For all its faults and missteps, SXSW is still such an incredible spot to discover and encounter folks from all over the world. In one day I saw bands from Brazil, Norway, Australia, England, Italy and Canada. Not a lot like it, so get out there and find something new!
Top Bands RayRay: Coldwave ruled for me. Definitely give the Aussie’s a chance if they are not on your list yet. Also would recommend the incredibly talented musicians in Mall Girl. Them dudes can shred!
RayRay’s Thoughts so far: Honestly, things are just getting started and I am excited for the week. As Nathan said, it’s such a great time and a week I always look forward to for seeing new bands and catching up with old pals. More to come, see ya out there!
