About Last Night – SXSW Wednesday

Yesterday was a long one folks, and felt like the first REAL day for SXSW to get going with all the crew out and about covering whatnot. We covered a lot of ground, mostly around Red River and on the east side, and of course we have some thoughts to share this morning. For any haters out there, go out and give it a shot, bands are still playing, hungry, and put on some great sets. If you’re out and about, some say hi to the crew and we’ll buy you a drink or give ya s sticker. After the jump we have some thoughts, photos and various other hot things.

Nathan’s Top Bands:While I agree with RayRay in terms of Guardian Singles, Ny-Oh was a really great way to start for me; she had this incredible sense of humor that has me wondering about the next great comic/music album. PyPy were excellent, and again, Annie-Claude Deschenes’ command of a venue continues to impress; this is an artist that you simply have to see. And my night got capped off with Perennial, continuing on their world domination by cranking out the hits and the joy over at Elysium.

RayRay’s Top Bands:

Guardian Singles was a great way to kick off the day inside 13th Floor with a New Zealand take on B-52s, meets Neil Young. I also cannot recommend both Catcher and MX Lonely enough. Brooklyn what! Catcher have a real noisy vibe with hints of grunge and crazy gnarly, grunty vocals. MX Lonely has been a long time favorite of mine, since the days of solo project HARMS, so I was pumped when they killed on the inside stage at Hotel Vegas. Will definitely be making a point to see them again before the week is over.

BGray’s Top Bands:

I’ll echo Guardian’s Singles abd NX Lonely. Perennial is a crowd pleaser. I got my shot at Delivery last night. They were worthy of the buzz, good room of people watching, EXCEPT the bunghole up front that my crossing near his turf up front working my way out was afront to his personal freedom. You don’t own the venue because of your platinum badge, let me by to get a photo and hug a friend, dick. Radio Free Alice was a brit pop palate cleanser. Ribbon Skirt was my Canadian wrap.
