Friday Album Streams: Jeanines, Ryli, Tom Henry and More

Cliche as it may be, when it rains, it pours, and the musical gods have been kind to us, pouring down with great records to run with today. Slumberland and Skep Wax teamed up to drop us a couple of gems, while there are some more under the radar records I’d love for you spend time with, like Ryli, Tom Henry and Gelli Haha. There’s a few words on each hanging below.

JeaninesHow Long Can It Last (Slumberland/Skep Wax)

This is a record filled with some of the best pop songs you’re going to hear this week, perhaps even this year. It’s amazing how much depth they’ve created with this batch of songs, and you won’t be able to press skip on a single one.

RyliCome and Get Me (Dandy Boy Records)

Yea-Ming Chen steps out from one project and into another, this round offering a brilliant brand of dream pop that wears some similarities to various other acts in the region; this is mostly due to the collaborative work of all the heavy-hitters who play on the record.

Tom HenrySongs to Sing and Dance To (Royal Oakie)

This is a record for fans of Jonathan Richman and Marc Bolan alike; it feels like a timeless little treasure that pulls from the realms of both garage rock and modern indie rock. A little bit of pop and bravado, wrapped up in a record you can sing with just as much as crank up real loud.

LightheadedThinking, Dreaming, Scheming (Slumberland/Skep Wax)

This is another timeless record that defies pigeonholing. Imagine a bit of doo-wop/girl-group transported into the future to offer up their own spin on indiepop. They meet the genre on their own terms, leaving us with an album that’s as deep in texture and harmony.

Gelli HahaSwitcheroo (Innovative Leisure)

We need more records in the world that are playful and creative, and Gelli Haha doesn’t shy away from either. It’s an album both equal parts hooks and whimsy, and a great way to get your mind in the right feeling for heading off into the weekend.
