SXSW Interviews 2026 – Honey I’m Home
We’re in the midst of the fest, but still have time to check out some stuff that we really love, like Honey I’m Home. The Dutch outfit are playing our Welcome to the Jangle Party this Sunday at 29th Street Ballroom/Tweedys, so they were kind enough to answer some questions to get some extra info about the band and their work. You can track more of their SXSW shows HERE.
ATH: Whats the name of the band/group? Where are you from?
We areHoney Im Home, a five-piece band making noise out of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
ATH: Give us a short pitch for your band, describing your sound, ambiance, or whatever you feel like.
Were a bunch of friends from Amsterdam that discovered we all love the same kind of musicand started writing together. Shoegaze, some would call it. Inspired by alt rock bands from the 90s, but with modern influences and a DIY sound. Its loud, but also dreamy and we are very horror inspired but maybe thats more visually than sonically.
ATH: What was your most recent release? Any planned releases for 2026?
Our most recent releases are the singlesPretty,Insecure, andAlive. Each track explores a slightly different side of our sound, from heavier shoegaze to more melodic indie influences. Were currently working on new music in our drummer Jaspers studio, and were planning to release several new singles throughout 2026. Some of them might be the heaviest songs weve made so far.
ATH: SXSW is often called a sort of initiation which can lead to increased exposure. As a band, why did you choose to play the festival? Whats your aim for the week?
Weve always wanted to come to the USA because we feel a strong connection to the music and scene there. So much great music comes from the States. We love innovative shoegaze and alternative bands like Bleary Eyed and Full Body 2, as well as great songwriters like Hotline TNT and Winter. SXSW felt like the perfect opportunity to introduce ourselves to a new audience and meet inspiring musicians. Our main goal is simple: meet as many people as possible and play the best shows we can.
ATH: What has everyone in the band been listening to, or what plays in the tour van/car/bus?
When were driving, its usually calmer music so the driver can stay focused. Things like old country or Frank Sinatra. But lately weve also been listening a lot to the newest Full Body 2 song. We feel like that band is really pushing shoegaze into totally new territory.
ATH: If youve had a chance to check out any of the artists coming into town for the festival anyone you are excited about trying to see during the week?
Definitely. Wed love to see Mx Lonely they rock. Heavy riffs, cool drums, and dark songs. Were also excited about Adult DVD. We have a feeling theyre going to absolutely nail the festival.
ATH: Disregarding the constructs of space, time, and availability if you could construct a power group of artists to make the ultimate supergroup, who would be in it?
If we really are allowed to dream big, we think this could be a magical lineup:
Sofie Ooteman (Honey Im Home) on vocals, Jasper Meurs (Honey Im Home) on drums, Thom Schotanus (Honey Im Home) on guitar and backing vocals, Evelien Keesmaat (Honey Im Home) on bass, andHugo de Groot (Honey Im Home) on guitar.
ATH: Any road survival or SXSW survival tips for newbie bands? What are some must-haves to survive the road?
One of the most important things is having good communication within the band. Touring can be intense, so it really helps when people regularly check in with each other and make sure everyone is doing okay. That keeps the band healthy and the vibe positive. Also: bring earplugs, snacks, and something comfortable for the long drives. And STAY HYDRATED.
ATH: What concerns do you have as a band or as humans? In regards to music, the world, or anything else where does your mind wander these days? How do you refocus?
Like many artists, we sometimes worry about the future of the music industry and how difficult it can be for emerging musicians to survive financially while still making the art they care about. At the same time, we also see so many inspiring bands creating incredible music and building their own communities. That keeps us motivated. Whenever things feel overwhelming, we try to refocus on the simple things: writing songs together, playing shows, and connecting with people through music. Thats the reason we started doing this in the first place.
