Funx3 Fest Preview: Cold Cave

Well friends, Fun Fest is officially upon us this weekend and it’s time to take a bit of a closer look at some of the bands that we’d recommend you check out.  My co-writers and editors have already brought you some choice picks and battles so I guess it’s now my time to turn the spotlight on a band that’s got me amped up for this weekend’s events.  Cold Cave seem like an obvious choice.  Follow the jump for more on the band.

I’ll be honest and say that, prior to this year, I dismissed NYC based Cold Cave as just another dancey pop band that didn’t deserve much attention.  It’s not that I didn’t dig some of their tunes, I just didn’t see that they had any real staying power with the direction of their music.  This year, the band seemingly made a complete 180 for me with the release of their highly underrated Cherish the Light Years back in April.  The music was stronger, the vocals were more confident and powerful, and creative man Wesley Eislod came into his own as a mature song writer.  I highly recommend picking up a copy of that album to tune into the real return of new wave to the indie scene.

You can catch Cold Cave at Fun Fest this weekend on Saturday at 5:22pm on the blue stage.  It’s sure to be a dance party.
