SXSW Interviews: La Sera

Katy Goodman’s definitely an in-demand lady at the moment with her work split between Vivian Girls and La Sera.  She’ll be releasing her latest La Sera effort, Sees the Light, on March 27 via Hardly Art.  From what we’ve heard so far, sounds like a hit.  Luckily we caught up with her via the Internet to get her thoughts on the upcoming SXSW Festival…ATH:  What is the most challenging thing about being a band during SXSW or another similar festival?

Katy: When you have two shows to play in a row, and you have to run with your gear down the street from show to show!

ATH:  What are some tips you would offer newbie bands to survive during SXSW or just in general on tour?

Katy: Don’t be scared to separate from your band, but always try to get to the next show early.  It’s scary when you don’t know where one of your bandmates is 10 minutes before your set time.  Also, avoid day drinking.  Wait at least until the sun sets.  You will crash by 8 pm if you break this rule.

ATH:  What music are you guys currently jamming in your tour bus?

Katy: Lately I’ve been listening to Tim Cohen’s Magic Trick, Fleetwood Mac, The Marked Men, and the Wipers.

ATH: Who wins the Euro Cup this summer? It’s okay to tell us you hate soccer.

Katy: Uhhhh… haha

ATH: Due to licensing, you’ve had to change the band name, or else you get sued! What do you change it to?

Katy: Katy Goodman’s World of Whimsy

ATH: It’s fairly early in the musical year.  What’s in store for your band before the world ends in December?

Katy: Touring, album releasing, pool swimming, massage receiving, drinks drinking, sun bathing, guitar playing, cat petting, world ending.

ATH: What’s the best pre-show beverage for the band? Let’s get brand specific! And, what’s the worst free shot we can buy you at SXSW?

Katy: Uhhh, Naked Juice?  I don’t know.  Let’s just say Jameson shot.

ATH: Being out on tour, what’s the one thing you miss about being back at home?

Katy: My cat Walter!

ATH: Best band of all time is….?

Katy: The Wipers

Thanks to Katy for taking the time to answer a few quick questions…and thanks to Jason B. for hooking it up. Here’s one of Katy’s new hits:
