Meet the SXSW Band: Bodega

We are now just one short week away from SXSW and it seems like things are really starting to ramp up in Austin with news of killer day parties and events happening around town. Your ATH team is trying to push out as much preview coverage as we can this week so you feel maybe slightly more prepared to tackle everything. Today we have an interview from NYC based outfit BODEGA. After the jump you can see full interview, confirmed dates, and hear some music.

All responses come from Ben from BODEGA.

ATH: What’s the name of the band/group? Where are you from?

BODEGA / NYC

ATH: Give us a short pitch for your band, describing sound, ambiance or whatever you feel like.

Critique and reverence for the rock apparatus.

ATH: What was your most recent release? Any planned releases for 2024?

Our third LP, Our Brand Could be Yr Life, is out April 12 via Chrysalis Records, but you can stream its first two singles, “Tarvoski” and “City Is Taken” now at a DSP near you.

ATH: SXSW is often called a sort of initiation which can lead to increased exposure. As a band, why did you choose to play the festival? What’s your aim for the week?

It will be fun to share our music and check out what’s going on in the culture.

ATH: What has everyone in the band been listening to, or, what plays in the tour van/car/bus?

Omni’s new LP Souvenir is lovely. Would highly recommend it.

ATH: If you’ve had a chance to check out any of the artists coming into town for the festival – Anyone you are excited about trying to see during the week?

Very excited to see Omni —> Also looking forward to catching up with our old friends Dry Cleaning.

ATH: Disregarding the constructs of space, time, and availability – If you could construct a power group of artists to make the supreme, all powerful super group of a band, who would be in it? Pick as many members as you like. Who is on vocals, drums, guitar, etc.? All submissions will be judged with a winner awarded during the festival.

Drums – Jeff Nelson
bass – Brian Baker
guitar – Lyle Preslar
vox – Ian Mackaye

ATH: Any road survival or SXSW survival tips for newbie bands? What are some must haves to survive the road?

Good books and a journal.

ATH: What concerns do you have as a band or a human or both? In regards to music, the world, really… where does your mind tend to wander these days?

Our new LP is about how current alternative music embodies a corporate mentality.
