The Postiljonen Rings Twice

I might be Swedish.

Postiljonen is not Swedish for Postal Service, though it is somehow translated to postman with French origins (according to the internets). I guess that makes sense given this track has a bit of M83 feel to it. The trio of Joel, Daniel and Mia deliver the well-crafted tones and ethereal vocals I have increasingly become addicted to this summer. I think you will enjoy it, too.

Skyer is due July 22. You can peep a video for the track “Atlantis” here. #saxsolo

Because America, That’s Why.

It is the Fourth of July. You might have the day off. You might be day-drinking. You might be readying meats and substitute meat-products for the grill. You might want to listen to some jams. Well, How about I remind you of some recent doings here.

If you want to get some vinyl for the turntable, take a gander at the 2013 Albums of the Year… So Far list. All of us with a hand in picking jams and reviewing records chimed in to create the best list ever. And I mean that. Ever.

Next up, we have the No Bummer Summer 2013 playlist. It works great on your mobile device via the Soundcloud apps (Apple, Android, WP). It has the jams, it has the bleeps, it has the locals, it has the internationals, it has the hits – it has it all, really.

Finally, if you want to just get silly and dance a little and then chill and then dance some more, the IT Dept. Summer Playlist is a digitally affected set of tracks to use for your enjoyment. No repeats on the IT and No Bummer playlist means about three hours of nothing but awesome.

I set up both embedded after the break. I know, I am really nice. So, Happy Independence Day, I hope you and Will Smith have fun taking out the aliens.

Start The Party With Cold Blood Club

Sometimes, you just want to be happy and get your groove on. Seems the Cold Blood Club is here to provide you with some vibes to vibe to. The track streaming below is called “Goodbye To All That” and it is thick with claps, breaks, builds and jangly guitar goodness needed to start a party. It has a Shout Out Louds feel to it with transitions into brit-pop happy pants jams.

Did any of our New York friends catch the show at Bowery Electric last night? Give me deets. Seems this track is made for the stage…

Crowdsourcing The Scene – Hardly Sound

Hardly Sound is trying to document things going on in Texas, highlighting and profiling musicians and telling some stories. Second best music show on PBS? Perhaps. It is well shot and has featured a few ATH favorites already like The Bad Lovers and Royal Forest. Support the local projects, right?

This project is a labor of love, self-funded for the most part. Randy Reynolds and Christopher Kim want to step up their game this season and are looking for a little help. Head here to check out the options for supporting, including one very cool t-shirt design thumbnailed as the story pic.

A Saturday Night In Austin

Saturday was busy. A couple of smaller shows were happening with ATH favorites playing at Holy Mountain and The Mohawk‘s inside stage. Matt Pond PAbrought along Matrimony in the former and Superhumanoids played the latter. It was nice of them to ask locals Tiger Waves and Orthy to join in, respectively.

I wore comfortable shoes (fashion faux pas flip-flops actually), grabbed the little camera, brought along the wife, alerted the friends and proceeded to mosey between venues on the Red River corridor. Join me for a little photo journey, won’t you?

Show Preview: Superhumanoids @ Mohawk (6/29)

Date 6/29/13
Location Mohawk Inside
Doors 9:00pm
Tickets $12

How could I not mention this great show going on tonight at The Mohawk?

Superhumanoids delivered one of my favorite tracks last year. “Geri” was a mainstay on the Lots of Favorites playlist in Casa Brian.Gray. I last saw the band when they opened for Active Child. They get the inside stage tonight, local friends Orthy are opening.

Guess I’ll be splitting time between Holy Mountain and The Hawk.

Another Track From Béisbol

I just saw Beisbol last friday after the Baths show. They were good. They mentioned another track that would be available for download. They played the track and I liked it. The Portland group based around the Brothers Burian are nice people.

Anyway, more catchy jam action, this time a little lower in the tempo department. You can stream the whole album, Lo-Fi Cocaine, over on their Soundcloud. Go see them if you get a chance. Tell ’em the photo guy in Austin that made them stand in front of walls sent you.

Show Review: Twin Shadow @ Emo’s (6/22)

Why? All I can do is ask why.

Twin Shadow was on my list of best shows last year. It was a sold out two night stand at The Mohawk. Confess had all the buzz in the world behind it. Fast forward to last Saturday and a group of about 1200 fans gathered to get another dose of George still touring on the strength of Forget and Confess. Unfortunately, this iteration won’t make my list of best shows. The band sounded amazing, but the lighting that must have seemed like a good idea at the time, just killed it for me (and not just because I take the photos).

Read on for thoughts on a surprising Elliphant and peep the pics of Twin Shadow in Projector Land…
