Met The folks at Heist or Hit Records a few years back during SxSW through a mutual friend. Good people.

Saw on Bookface that one of their acts, nineteen year old Oliver Cat doing the music thing as Fantasy Rainbow, has a song up to stream via the 405’s Soundcloud. I took a listen and liked it and decided to share. The song “Condominium” will be on the album Bos Taurus, due in the UK on 10/29. Looking into US release info.

New York friends, he’ll be at CMJ.

It is going to be raining. There are a lot of shows. Be safe. Be happy. This song makes me happy.

Stars just released The North and will be touring through the fall including a stop at ACL, playing on Sunday during my birthday party at 1:15. I’m inviting all of you to the Barton Springs stage. I know some of you may venture off towards the Freelance Whales or Moon Duo. I understand. I may even stop by.

In the mean time, I give you 4:39 of happy.

Downtempo Electro Pop From Beacon

I think I am already sick of the new XX album and don’t even own it. My drive time with SiriusXMU has pretty much locked that up.

As an alternative, we bring you Beacon. It starts low and sultry, and builds from sparse to sweeping. Another Brooklyn-based duo borrowing from R&B and dance pop, They’ll be releasing the For Now EP on October 2nd. Until then, you can stream this song called “Feelings Gone” over at the Ghostly soundcloud.

Final bit of catch up from last Friday. Pujol played Stubb’s.

In a way, Slash opened for them. The outside was over run by rock and/or roll played loudly, Myles Kennedy a far better technical vocalist than that guy with funny hair and a cat face that wrecked GnR. Cell phones abounded for the rousing closer, “Paradise City”. …and then Pujol started playing inside.

Quite a few partiers came in from outside to check out the Nashville trio, hearing the big power jams about home and girls and stuff. So peep the pics and read a couple more words after the break.

Show Pics: Tycho & The Album Leaf @ Red7 (9/7)

Friday was a busy night. On my agenda, Pujol, Ariel Pink, Tycho and The Album Leaf.

Tycho asked The Album Leaf join them (him) on tour. This is a seriously good bill for any fan of mid-to-down tempo, beautifully crafted songs. To get to see both on the same night was a treat. It was impressive that the show sold out despite being in the larger space outdoors at Red7. Quick polling told me that the crowd was actually half and half as to who they were there to see, maybe Tycho in the lead. I guarantee that both bands gained fans.

Fun Fun Fun Fest Schedule And Single Day

Public service announcement…

The Fun Fun Fun Fest Schedule is out. Previously, we just had the lineup. Now, we can start arguing about which stage at what time and know the general area your drunk friend will be lost in. PIL versus Starfucker seems to be my biggest dilemma. Also, the Yellow stage is now going to feature bands in the evenings including Twin Sister, the always fun Peelander Z and Atlas Sound, finishing up the fest with Black Moth Super Rainbow on Sunday night.

The other news is that the full-price 3-day passes, PIPs and single day tix are available. Go here to buy ’em up.

Show Review: Tanlines @ Red7 (8/30)

Last week featured back to back nights at Red7, outside to inside. Wild Nothing was fantastic. I had relatively light expectations for Tanlines. When I found out it had sold out, even given the smaller capacity of the inside venue, I was quite surprised. I think the band was, too.

Tanlines is Jesse Cohen and Eric Emm. They throw down calypso-electro dance jams. They asked Love Inks to open. Learning Secrets spun between sets.

Factory Records made an impact on my listening in the days of old. Tony Wilson and Aaron Erasmus started the label in Manchester in the late 70’s. It was the mid-80’s run that took my ear over with artists like New Order and Happy Mondays. The label also featured tons of eclectic post punk, funk, new wave and dub jams that hold up to anything out today. Compiled and released on Strut Records, FAC DANCE 02 picks up where 01 left off, a scatter chart of what the Factory guys were promoting and distributing to the scene. Jazzy jams from Kalima, smooth darkness from Durutti Column, harder edged tracks from Section 25, Jamaican dub from Sir Horatio…

FAC DANCE 02 is out September 18th on CD and Vinyl. Digital versions include a few extra tracks. Here are couple tracks to show you what’s up.
