Great New Track from Grass Widow

I’ve been keeping an eye on Grass Widow since our friend Toby over at FinestKiss posted on them long ago, and lately it seems I’ve been hearing a lot more press about them–surely a good sign!  The group’s third full-length, Internal Logic, comes out on May 22nd via their own HLR label, and I’m growing more excited as new tunes leak out.  This newest jam definitely has a lot more blank space for the group to meander, but  I like the quirky brooding quality of the guitars; you also can’t argue with great female vocal harmonies.  Get excited for this release!

More New Tunes from Royal Headache

A little less than a month ago I brought you THIS sweet new jam from Royal Headache, and now we’ve got another awesome number to toss your way.  While their first number had a bit more ferociousness, this new track has a bit more of a relaxed feeling to it; still, it offers up a great bit of soul from vocalist, Shogun, which is just another reason people are so excited for this group. You’ll find yourself loving the self-titled debut when it comes out May 8th, courtesy of What’s Your Rupture.  And, if you love it like I do, then you’ll have the opportunity to catch the band as they hit the States this summer (including Austin dates!).

SXSW Interviews: Young Magic

Michael Italia’s probably not a household name, not just yet.  With that in mind, 2012 seems perfect for his project, Young Magic, to break through to the masses, as he’s already gotten a lot of attention from the press.  We were fortunate to catch up with him before he headed to SXSW to get a brief glimpse inside his mind.  You can check out his SXSW dates after the interview. New Music from Parlovr

Last year we brought you lots of news about Parlovr, one of Montreal’s hottest act.  It looks like 2012 is going to give us more of the same; the band is set to release another album, Kook Soul, on Dine Alone Records on May 15th of this year.  What I like about our first listen to the new music is the lack of immediacy in the following song.  It’s not hitting you over the head, but instead, the band builds their sound slowly, erupting from time to time with spirited pop moments.  It’s a slight change in direction, but one you’ll surely love if you just take the time to stream the track below.

SXSW Interviews: Prince Rama

As we continue our SXSW coverage, we’re bringing to you a group that sadly gets lumped in with psychedelic rock, not that we don’t like that style, but Prince Rama is so much more than that.  They’re a whole lot more experimental, combinging elements of Eastern world music, creating an atypical sound from the get-go.  They played a great show in Austin earlier this year with Gang Gang Dance, so we expect another great performance. Oh, and apparently cats are the loneliest thing if their owned by touring bands. Read more

More Tunes from Juston Stens

Three weeks ago we brought you a country-ish number from Juston Stens, the former member of Dr. Dog, but this new track is something quite different. There’s an almost jagged element, giving a little spring to your step, but through it all, you can still see the folk-ish routes of Stens and his past.  My ears hear a little bit of an homage to Okkervil River, but perhaps that’s just wishful thinking.  Regardless, if he’s writing songs like this, it doesn’t seem like he made a bad move in stepping out to go solo. His album Trash or Treasure can be found in stores now, and if you’re in Austin, you can catch him playing several sets as part of the SXSW festivities.
