Spice World Share Useless Feeling

If you haven’t boarded the train to Spice World, might beg you to join, as the band seem set on releasing a pretty timeless record at the start of next year. There’s something in the vocals that brings about this striking familiarity, like a friend’s on your porch detailing their latest yarn. It provides this naturalness that’s been drawing me in like some sort of crazy pop tractor beam. Behind those vocals, you get a steady tapping of the feet, like bouncing a baby on your knee as guitar notes flirt with jangling. It all comes together perfectly when you hit that chorus, adding in the backing vocals to maximize the saccharine core that makes this group so endearing. There’s No I in Spice World drops to the world on January 20th via Tenth Court and Meritorio Records.

Farewell Horizontal Release New Single + Prep Tales of Woah

Next week we will find the brand new Farewell Horizontal LP in our inbox, but will you? Let’s share this rad new tune to hopefully turn you on to the group’s sound, in hopes you, too, will grab the album. The Melbourne group take aim at the city of Brighton, a place apparently full of arseholes. For me, the story is the shredding guitar work, playing both fuzzy and bouncy, letting the vocals kind of hank in the heavy waters so as to draw out the melody. Behind the heavy ripping sound, you get some cascading guitar solos, punctuating the group’s musicianship, all of that still being tightly wound around the band’s boppnig nature. Next week they’ll drop Tales of Woah.

The Golden Dregs Share Sundown Lake

The Golden Dregs have been all over these pages the last few years, and I was super excited to hear that 4AD had picked up on the band for their new album, On Grace & Dignity. This brand new single has that deepened croon from Benjamin Woods, offering up this sort of forlorn enchantment meant to set you up for the chorus. When that chorus hits, the song spins right into exuberance; backing vocals join in, horns blast and the whole world twists and turns joyously, which perhaps what sums ups Woods’ songwriting best…pensive and playful. The new LP drops on February 10th via the aforementioned 4AD.

H. Hawkline Shares Milk for Flowers

So this is probably news from yesterday, but I’m indifferent as I’m a huge fan of over the top pop vibes, almost to the point of kitsch…yet still super cool, you know. This new H. Hawkline feels like that to me; there’s something in it that captures the personality of Huw that we’ve witnessed over the last few years, yet in that, there’s something almost theatrical and playful. I think with the help of Cate le Bon‘s production aid, he knows exactly where to hold back, so you still get of that familiarity coming through your speakers. Fun and hip and I’m sold; Milk for Flowers, the new album, comes out next year via Heavenly Recordings.

The Photocopies Prep Wrong Century Compilation

Deep in the heart of Michigan lives a great well of indiepop sounds going by the name of the Photocopies; the project has been pretty busy with lots of little singles here and there throughout the last few years, and now those songs are all being strung together to make up the Wrong Century compilation. Just press play below and you’ll immediately get swept away in the galloping pop sounds; there’s little fuzzy riffs and a bouncing bit of percussion to push you forward. From there, the vocals come in coolly, melodic and a little bit shy, which makes them all the more endearing. If you’re into it, you get 8 bonus tracks by grabbing a CD version from Discos de Kirlian.

Dropkick Release Holiday Single

I typically do not go all in on holiday singles, but I will, however, go all in on anything coming from Dropkick, as the band haven’t led us wrong just yet. They’ve just announced a quick little two track single, recorded amidst the mapping out of their new LP, which should come in 2023; the single’s possibly meant to be a little stop-gap and tease while we wait. As with anything Andrew Taylor is penning, there’s a nice little strum, toying with the ability to ring out sharply if necessary; the vocals add in that holiday spirit, brining you the warmth of your favorite festive drink. Why not start off your day with this tune, eh?

Silver Liz Share High at the Gym

This week we finally get to hear the entirety of Silver Liz‘s new LP, It Is Lighter Than You Think, but before you dive into the whole thing, let’s have one more single to tease you. For me, this song’s dripping with 90s nostalgic alternative rock, somewhere in that middle ground between Weezer and Teenage Fanclub; they’re bringing in those heavily fuzzed riffs, though careful not to stray to far from the hook-laden center at the core of their songs. It’s a quick little blissed out rocker, built to let you shake those heavy locks atop your head as you band your head! If you’re digging, go stream the whole album!

Elison Share Fruit Flies Single

I love the way the music Elison creates feels like its stuck between two worlds, which is often where I find myself as a listener. Their latest single toys with the more ethereal edges of dream pop, though only in the chorus, allowing the song’s clarity and pop affection to shine in the bubbly verses. You can’t stop tapping your feet, letting your toes dance inside your shoes, lost in the swirling hooks of the melodies here. Still, walking that fine line is where the band seem able to perfect their sound, flirting with listeners who love the dark corners just as much as we love an anthemic hook.

Soft on Crime Prep New Suite LP, Share Telex Eyes

You can already find a slew of great LPs you’ll want to fawn over in 2023 on the slates, but might I suggest you add Dublin’s Soft on Crime to that mix? Today we get to share the group’s new single, along with the announcement of their debut, New Suite. For some reason, this track takes the modern power-pop vibes, though it feels like its being spun through the story of Elvis Costello. It’s got this sort of jittering hipness to it, frantic in all the right spots, then bursting with the hooks when you hit the chorus. It’s a reminder that rock n’ roll can still be a hell of a lot of fun. Look for New Suite to drop in February of next year!

Shaki Tavi Share Crime Video

A few weeks back, LA’s Shaki Tavi dropped their Shaki Tavi EP, a collection of 8 scalding rock tunes that were likely to burst a speaker cone or two, should you turn it up too loud. But, lurking deep in the heart of the EP was this striking bit of solace, a melodious piece of pop that sort of crafted a moment of balance if you were listening from start to finish. It clung to the darker edges of the group’s sound, yet it never went beyond the jangling notes that hung in the air. Today, we’re really stoked to be able to offer you a visual glimpse of the tune, as the group have just released this new video. The video hits on this solitude that I think comes through in the meandering notes that drift in and out of the tune. You’ll find this track inside the Shaki Tavi EP, now available through Mutation Records.
